  1. Give this thread a read and see what you think. Afterwards, go ahead and post a build from mids or feel free to ask additional questions. As always you can show up to a Tanker Tuesday and ask the Tank enthusiasts there what they think.
  2. Fun times on Reunion this morning. We had a team of 6 vet Tankers leveling up our Bio/*'s. Much mayhem and herding was had. Ronin cornered two Palis for us and we managed to take down one with Tanks alone in 20 mins, before sharing the 2nd with the server. After that we finished up Posi 2 and ran missions to get us to the Talos Bank temp power. Next month we'll be running the bank, then Synapse. See you back here on 4/13!
  3. Soooo... when the Hami? ;)
  4. Hi all, Just bumping this thread to remind everyone that we're back on Reunion this Saturday (3/16). Meet in King's Row by IP gate at 9:30AM PDT. We'll be picking up where we left off on the new round of Tanks, so Posi 2, and whatever else people are in range for. See you there!
  5. Good run on Torch tonight. Four teams. MsA lead the Cavern team, Ronin went red with a Patron unlock, PLV lead Yin and I ran missions (I think the covers it). 3/16 This coming Sat, we're on Reunion at 9:30AM PDT. Meet in KR by IP gate as always. 3/19 We're on Everlasting. Meet in KR at 6PM PDT/9PM EDT and we'll get rolling from there.
  6. I've never been able to make Katana work for me. Others on the Tanker forums have given good examples of how to run it, but mine have never made it to 50... I had an Electric/Dark on live and it was a pretty fun run. So of the two you mentioned I'd go Dark Melee.
  7. Fire/Axe! Drag em around and burn em down!! or Fire/Fire, just plain burn em down!! or Fire/Ice, freeze them up then burn them down!! I could list more, but I think I'm done. Enjoy your new Tank!
  8. Imo, everything goes well with Rad! That said, it depends on what you're looking to do. Axe Cyclone now gives the ability to gather mobs and when you practice jumping with it (Combat Jumping) you can move the mobs around (I've actually pulled them through windows and on to ledges etc..). I had this ready, and failed to hit submit, but here's may take on it.
  9. Welcome back! Rad/Axe. Start there, learn how to use Axe Cyclone. If you ever get bored with it switch to Rad/Fire. My totally "non-biased" suggestions... But, of what you've listed, maybe Electric/Axe would be the pick.
  10. I never volunteer people, I merely enable their ability to explore leadership.
  11. Speaking of which... we'll need to figure out a faster way of getting the teams rolling when we have large turnouts like we're experiencing on Excel. One way would be to set the team leads in advance in league leaving the TT participants out of the league to start. Then, have the leads invite TTer directly to their team. We would announce the TFs, Trials and mission options locally, and at intervals. The advantage here would be faster team assignment although a bit heavier in chat chaos (but league chat is already pretty chaotic, so maybe a wash). This would require more team leaders stepping up, and would allow lower level TFs to be run w/o one the TT vets/50s to lead it. Any other thoughts? That said, TT is a great place to learn the art to team/league leading. The players are very supportive, experienced, and full of suggestions. So if you'd like to lead a team/TF/Trial/other content, please let me know so we can get you signed up and ready.
  12. Huge turnout on Excel tonight over 48 Tanks! Thanks to all the team leads, I'm sure I'll forget someone, so thank you in advance! Ronin leading the Aeon TF, PLV for leading Numina, MsA for leading Hannon (I think), Witty and Agoogala for leading missions teams. Uncle Jeb, did you get the sewer team going or did we fold you into the missions teams, sorry was a busy night and I don't recall. 3/12 we're on Torch. Meet in KR at 6PM PDT/9PM EDT and we'll get rolling from there.
  13. Invuln/Energy Melee. You can stand up to anything and "KO" (stun them). Damage is not an issue since your teammates will roll stuff faster than you (generally DPS speaking). But, If you like the basic concept KM, it does add some soft control that the other sets don't. It gets a medium ranged ST attack you can slot with KB>KD, and a cone that you can slot the same way (KB>KD). So, some additional options to knocking mobs off/down teammates when Taunt isn't work or is recharging (plus it's kinda' fun). Add Mighty Radial Final Judgement and after you AoE them down, Focused Burst, you can Knock them Up (er... into the air that is...) (AoE mob juggling at it's finest). So although in need of some love Dev lovin', KM can still be very useful on a Tank.
  14. It really depends on what you want to do, I'd go Rad/Fire and SD/MA myself... However, I recognize that not everyone has my addiction to Rad Armor and Fiery Melee. If you look at the recent Rad/* thread, somewhere around here on the Tanker forum, @Spaghetti Betty and @ZemX sum up how to build a Rad Tank sans Def, so I'd look at that thread when designing your Rad Tank (whichever 2ndry you decide to go with). That said, Rad/FM is an AoE Machine (which I love about the pairing, and is my main reason for playing the combo). SD/FM is pretty good at it too especially with SDs teleport attack, but... SD isn't Rad (;)), and as others have mentioned the Def bonus from MA won't go all that far once you jump into the middle of a mob. So, taking MA on your Rad Tank should be for other reasons than the Def "bonus" (as fleeting as it will be). To sum up: Two Tanks, not a bad thing. Rad/FM SD/MA or.... <.< >.> SD/FM, because you can never have enough FIRE! However you decide to go, enjoy your Tanks!!
  15. Or... Rad/Fire.... just sayin'... ...and you can never have too many Tanks!
  16. I'm not sure the PSi proc from PZ will work in the "Taunt Aura" AAO. Might just need to replace that with a regular one. I'm not big into "hover Tanking", but if it works for you, I don't see any major issues with the build. I'm sure others will stop by and point out refinements and reason for, so I won't get into those (also because I'm not super well versed on the ins and outs of SD). Have you tested this build yet, or is it just the outline for you next project. And, only because it was the first build posted... You do realize that the Stalker will out damage a Tank...right?
  17. Rad/Fire is insanely fun. Personally I'd go that route, but I've had Shield/Fire Tanks and they're equally fun, but in more of a smash and bash sort of way. Battle Axe is the ultimate Tanking secondary with Axe Cyclone, and I'm sure there are players out there that could give a a decent build for it, but in total game experience, I think you'll go father with Rad or Shield. Just so you know, I'm biased. My sig says it all.
  18. Nothing much to add but I put the Kin Cobat KD proc in Chain Induction and it seems fire pretty regularly. It doesn't hit multiple mobs (I don't think) but it does tend to knock stuff down when it hits.
  19. I'm bias, but I'd go Shield/FM... It looks like you have pretty much summed up the combos. The big question is, "what do you want your Tank to do?" Shield/Elect - Sadly Lightning Rod isn't up as much as you'd (me) would like. But you've nailed the basics of the combo Shield/MA - MA is not my forte' I'll let other discuss it. Shield/KinM - Kin Melee (imo) is one of the best sets you can take when Tanking for new players and poorly functioning teams. The blend of attack type gives many options for maintaining control and pulling mobs off of teammates or otherwise foiling their attack chain. Shield/FM - Do it, don't look back, burn things to the ground! Shield/Stone - Crash, Boom, Bang! If you want to hit mobs and smack them around, this is the set for you. Shield/Ice - More Defensive and control focused than the other sets. Fun to play, but not a visually exciting as some of the other sets Frost though, is insane and your friend! Shield/StJ - Haven't done that much with StJ, others will probably have better input than I can give you. I don't care for the power building attack sets, but nothing overall wrong with it. Shield/SS - in many ways similar play-wise as Stone, just done a bit differently. Fun to play, and I'll defer to others for their input. Shield/Dark - Good but, you've already opted out. So, stop stalling and roll your SD/Fiery Melee Tank already!!
  20. Great fun on Indom tonight. Three teams, one MC (thanks for leading Ronin), one Moonfire (thanks for leading PLV), and one missions team (thanks for leading MsA). As usual, there was much leveling and crashing into/through mobs of goons. After the TFs the teams/league reformed and we went on to smash through more goons. Thanks for taking the 2nd team star PapaS. All-in-all a successful TT! 3/5 we're back on Excel. Meet in KR at 6PM PDT/9PM EDT and we'll get rolling from there.
  21. During the crash, I just use another unaffected power, Sands of Mu, Energy Torrent (with KB>KD slotted), Heal, Absorb, Taunt, Electric Fences, drop Ice Patch, (some temp powers aren't affected by it), etc.. It may be a bit annoying, but the crash isn't really a reason to avoid the set. And depending on your creativity you can find a power or action that fits in with the theme of the character. Or, don't take Rage (a bit of gimping to the set...) and take Assault (inferior damage to Rage) and see if that works for you. Or try Stone Melee or Street Justice. Just don't take Fiery Melee! Can't have too many fire clones out there!
  22. Yeah, the double knuckle sandwich is pretty good for KoB and Punching the ground is fun for FS, but there's something to be said for the original animations.
  23. The "Popeye Punch" is great, I still laugh at it. Make sure to add + To Hit powers to make sure it lands. The thing has a thing with me on missing when I really want it to connect.... (I figure it's Hami's revenge).
  24. Without know what "General Chat" (Damn, another toon name...) was on about the set not being good it's hard to say why the hate. On Tanks SS is pretty awesome (mostly due to Foot Stomp). The lack of an earlier AoE is a pain. However, it does have Hand Clap (no, it's not a disease) and when slotted with the KB>KD proc it's amazing mitigation. And who doesn't love knocking an enemy head over tea kettle with KoB. SS is definitely the classic comic book set of City of Heroes. If you want to pursue your study of Super Strength, feel free to join us at a Tanker Tuesday, or on the TankHQ channel and you can talk to players who've paired it with all the primaries and will give you valuable advice and feedback. Enjoy Tanking!
  25. Well, certainly an interesting night with the patch and all. Not too sure about some of the changes that have taken place, definitely not what the game used to be... Anyways, we had four teams tonight two missions (thanks for taking the other mission team MsA), a Manti team (thanks for leading PLV), and a Sutter team (thanks for leading Ronin). As always, welcome to the new and returning Tanks! We'll see you next week! 2/27 we're back on Indom. Meet in KR at 6PM PDT/9PM EDT and we'll get rolling from there.
