  1. Says you, I love the attacks from fighting, and pretty much dont care about tough and weave at all. Any good front liner doesnt need their paltry boosts. but cross punch is awesome!
  2. We have this thing called a friends list, and this other thing called a super group. Perhaps work on filling those with like minded players on at a similar time? When I call upon my Midnighters and those Ive trained I never doubt some will answer my call. But ultimately every hero should be ready and willing to stem the tide of evil on their own if such must be done. Never forget Galaxy Girl!
  3. You sound like a bloody sherlockian. only one of those I can stand is Stephan Fry. Frankly I favored some of his lesser known stuff like the Pole Star or the one about the mummy more. Im more of a lovecraftian myself.
  4. WTH is a doylist? You kids with your strange new slang. And Nemmy dont care about you, he dont care about your comfort. He wants one thing. My sweet sweet immortal arse!
  5. If a power is seeing use for its primary function such as stealth/invis for avoiding combat, or vengeance which yes is situational but still gets used for its main purpose a buff when an ally goes down, then even if they are also being used for LOTG specials doesnt suddenly shift them to mule status. A mule would bea power that never gets used at all beyond being a slot for the specials. And frankly I see plenty of opportunity in high end play for vengeance. I see folks eating dirt all the time on tin mage/apex, LGs, and even ITFs because so often you get leveling lowbies alongside guys who are going to push at speeds that get the levelers overwhelmed veng is often the buff that helps keep levelers on their feet when one drops. I also find brutes often bite off more then they chew and become veng bait by default. Hell I get plenty of use on veng that I tend to fit it into many of my builds and tend to feel its lack on builds I dont take it on. And sure it is a great power for the lotg special because you dont really have to slot up veng for it to be plenty useful as its base buff is pretty substantial. It can also take a PF for extra blue which is nice as well.
  6. And again this is pure hyperbole on your part. An SO based character will function in baseline difficulty solo, or be viable in a baseline difficulty team just fine. Yes if your running in a +4x8 mish solo, you more than likely are running at least a few hundred mil inf build, depending on the AT and power picks you started with. Your acting like a tri form SO build cant solo or something, or like a Human form perma light form is a must just to function in the game at all.
  7. Id actually love to see more diverse kinds of specials in sets for thematic purpose, like for example a build up or rage type proc in a DR or even heal set to mimc things like hulk and wolverine going all wild and crazy.
  8. That is a form of power creep, because it can for example let people further min max using less powers to achieve the same result. Why should a very hardy set like WP or Invuln have as easy a time fitting in such a bonus as a squishier set like SR can. And again imo it does not jive with the genre our game is based upon. Virtually all characters in comics that possess incredible speed and reflexes is a defense type of character rather then a resistant to dmg type. Kryptonians being the OP god like one that can have max recharge and max DR at the same time easily. Otherwise its more speedsters, and those with psychic senses and super reaction times like spider man or Dare Devil.
  9. The term mule is really inaccurate. Are people taking Hover just to put an LOTG special in? Combat jumping? How about Invisibility, or Leaderships def toggle and vengeance? I know every one of those powers gets used actively even if my build doesnt focus on global recharge or has hasten or not.
  10. Op heres the thing. Khelds were created in the pre ED era. and indeed were made with the idea that at high end they would possess perma lightform either via heavily slotting light form with recharge, or by a mix of recharge and perma hasten which was pretty sop for a click heavy build in that era when everyone could perma their end tank mode. It was a choice the devs made for PB to be able to keep theirs when the general ATs got that taken away. Now days it demands at least a heavy investment in global recharge sets ( hasten /perma hasten isnt really a must for perma light form but makes it easier and quicker to get) And why wouldnt a PB want Lightform as it includes CC protection and makes the dwarf form obsolete( this to wasnt an accident, the forms actually were by design meant to be used more as interim powers while leveling and not be part of a lvl 50 tool kit, shades actually got way more use out of their tri forms back then as it let them get fly and decent blasting, were as once a PB can nuke there is no reason to ever go nova form again.)) With pools a human form kheld still can be somewhat diverse from others, but unlike other ATs kheldians are meant to be pretty samey because they are all part of a single race with natural powers all possess. And the forms are just shadows of previous hosts. Logically they should be substandard when one considers that. So especially when it comes to a PB, wanting to make their forms better is really just pointless. Too much they become OP, Too little and there is no point in tweeking them in the first place, and there really isnt a just right because a full powered PB is very mucha force to be reckoned with. Frankly Id just love to see their dmg cap raised to that of blasters and Id be happy.
  11. Oh man lol, ime many min max builders are actually quite terribad player types, especially in the whole team player game. They frequently cause TFs to end up going slower because they try to go rushing off, and do not pull their weight over all because they hyper focus on just DPS, and well Lest they are a nuker they are not out DPSing my nukers and def not out surviving my main blaster, PB, Scrapper, etc etc. And my toons while fine tuned are def not min max meta builds. If all one does is play meta builds then there really is no point in playing because your never playing your character, just a specific collection of abilities based purely on math crunching that without being something the player has actually played and meshed with actual game play will often flounder and fail no matter what the math says. Sure My PB has it and is perma Light Form. My Ill Troller has perma haste and perma PA because that is the reason to be an Ill/Time troller imo. Yes My blaster has it because he long ago on live was among the forerunners of survival non squishy blasters that saw dirt nappers as something to mock and scorn because a blaster should be death walking not death napping. My Stalker doesnt have hasten, doesnt need it. My 3 different WP using builds dont bother with global recharge, just not enough return for the investment, and anyone who thinks a toggle heavy set benefits that much from it is being OCD and putting their feelings above reality. Global Recharge, and Hasten are tools that mesh well with some builds and are at best blah with others. IMO that is good design. The abd design is pool powers in general being made gimp by design because they shouldnt be as good as main powers. And those tools allow us to go outside the box. My blaster has two different attack chains, one single target for big bads, and one aoe for mass mob murder. I leverage that global recharge to be more then just spam my best aoe one button win. Oh and your last line comes off quite like BS trying to make it sound like your being selfless by admitting youd feel a loss of value to your build investment if access to something in it was made easier. To me it reeks of bad trolling trying to use the Im on your side and dont want it changed because Id lose something but it must be done for the greater good crap used by those on forums that are best left ignored .
  12. I watched a fair bit of season 2 of legends and didnt hate it but just didnt get into it. I had hopes when they brought on Constantine, as Id enjoyed that series, but aside from some bsica behavior he barely seems the same character from that series, and I see him as an alternate timeline version of the one I enjoyed years ago. The current season is way to movie spoof of the week type of vibe which for me is causing way too many bad flashbacks to the worst era of Sliders, in which the writers used the that same crutch. Also just way too much relationship drama. I really do not care about who is hooking up with who etc and frankly hated all the Felicity/ollie drama on Arrow as well. I actually would have preferred Felicity going over to Team Flash as I thought her actress and Barry's had good chemistry on screen. Even if it would of had to end up going platonic as Iris and his relationship is etched in comic lore. Hell Titans which I love, still suffers that some especially with Hawk and Dove. Im hopeful with them being no longer a couple that if we get a season 3 it picks up the steam it sometimes felt missing due to their sub plot. In fact the only comic themed show atm I like that is heavy on character relationship drama is Doom Patrol.
  13. Well ever since Flashpoint we technically had been living in Flashverse since we saw some things changed in arrow such as the gender of Johns child. Basically every character( cept super girl who was already in her own alternate earth) was a different version of the characters we had known prior to Flashpoint. Cept I guess the Legends, which Ill be honest I never warmed up to and only watched now and then for the cross over episodes. And really I hated it being called Arrow instead of The Green Arrow. And the almost constant pseudo batman plotlines like the league of shadows what not. Rather glad Arrow is over frankly, only good thing it did was act as a jumping off point for Flash.
  14. I personally dont agree with the OPs premise in part because I feel defense and recharge go hand in hand in the comic book genre for the most part. Characters with the best cant touch me are the same more often then not as those with abilities that in general invoke the use of bullet time in film to portray the effect of. From Spidermans super agility and spidey sense to Speedsters, and ofcourse the icon of comic godhood the Kryptonian with speed, senses, a brain that works at the speed of light to process threats that should render them basically untouchable against any foe lacking such powers in turn. I mean hell almost every major foe on The Flash is a fellow speedster or someone able to negate his speed. Meanwhile Super Girl gets written so poorly she is frequently threatened by foes lacking such tools, Which is so bad and makes her seem either weak or incompetent with her abilities when you watch and think, wait if Flash was here he would do this, she could do this, why isnt she doing this? Im then reminded of an episode of Smallville in which Clark is faced with guys able to mimic his strength, and its his foster father old Johnny K that has to remind clark " Son they might have your strength but not your other gifts, use them."
  15. Hurt so good! Come on Baby make it hurt so good, sometimes love dont feel like it should. You make it hurt so good!
  16. If you have a build that truly benefits from hasten sure. But also keep in mind the pre IO era concept of perma hasten was just having hastens 70% global recharge bonus. That is pretty easy to get in an end game build just from 5 purple sets and a few lotg specials without any real build sacrifice, Thats still like 2 free recharge SOs in every power which is more then enough for any offensive AT to easily have a full attack chain unless they are going for some build that only uses a few of their primary/2ndary attack powers for whatever reason( example my high recharge perma soul drain dark scrapper only uses 4 attacks from his dark melee pool so indeed does leverage his huge global recharge bonus to have a full attack chain and isnt exactly an exemplar friendly build). Also why is it so annoying? Before one can perma Hasten it gets used much like build up as a buff up before a fight. sure you wont have it every fight, but that is true for everyone for a fair few levels before ones build can fit in enough global recharge from sets to make it happen and in fact have to have more then hastens bonus inherently to make hasten perma. I see builds all the time that have plenty of attack powers, and are toggle heavy that still wastefully burn an entire pool just for hasten, and these same players often chafe at the 4 pool limit. I chafe at it myself but far more due to RP reasons and wanting pools to be equal and viable powers alongside primary/secondary choices. I just simply think its poor design to try to make the pool powers inferior because then we end up with the disparity that leads to people seeing hasten as one of the handful of worthwhile powers to take. To state my simple point again. If your build is toggle heavy, and has enough attacks to have a full attack chain, hasten really isnt adding enough to make it a must have, and one can likely find fun and flavorful alternatives for the pool slot freed by not taking hasten, unless ofcourse one really wants super speed as their travel power.
  17. I keep trying to explain this and will do so again. Plenty of builds simply do not benefit in a meaningful enough way to warrant a focus on global recharge, or need hasten. For example A scrapper that takes most of his attack powers is going to have a full attack chain, and frankly I loathe spamming just the last couple attacks over and over as it makes for a very dull thing to watch. Take my STJ Stalker as an example he doesnt have hasten, he doesnt have an especially heavy set focus, I did fit in a few LOTG because he is ninjitsu, and he also for thematic reasons has the leadership pool and vengeance so fitting 5 lotg in was easy, but def not needed. My Claw/WP scrapper, same thing dont bother with hasten he is toggle heavy and has a full attack chain without any extra recharge. It would benefit only a couple powers at most, so why bother with a huge investment for little return. Now click heavy sets like Regen or sets with unique aspects taht really should be perma like Drain Psyche or Soul Drain do make perma hasten and all that extra recahrge very much a real want and maybe evena need for high end play. My point is, Hasten and a global recharge set focus is far from a must or even a want on a great many possible power build combos. And knowing how to optimize builds is part of being good at the game. Making it easier to do so doesnt really do other then make the game easier in general, and we all agree the game can be pretty easy if we want it to be by fine tuning builds to the Nth degree.
  18. Its more like DC/Star Trek where we have both alternate timelines/dimensions, but also have the ability to manipulate specific dimensions timelines even though that should just create new( if they are even new and didnt just exist among the infinite possible variations already) timelines. The Arrowverse of WB(( I assume soon we will call it the flashverse now that Arrow is over)) is a major offender of this mix and match for plot purposes. Speedsters such as Flash are shown to be capable of altering a timeline( flashpoint paradox) yet we also up until the crisis crossover had the infinite dimensions. Star Trek TNG especially is infamous for the episode when we see the hundreds of variant Enterprises, yet we also know time travel can impact the prime timeline( The Kelvinverse of trek09 being the most infamous example of that off the top of my head). Especially in Sci Fi, its really best if one is used and the other ignored. Though both are perfectly good tools for sci fi adventures, mixing them together can create real head scratchers. Not to mention effectively killing every non time travel character if the protagonist ends up living in a new variation. The characters might be similar but they are still not the supporting case we grew attached to. I seem to recall feeling very offended by the Sci Fi show Eureka when a handful of the characters ended up traveling into the past, changing history and returning to an alternate present. Every character not part of that event was basically a different character then the counterpart we had known, especially if we assume multiverse theory and our old versions are still out there never to be seen again.
  19. Which I personally will never understand, because no matter how much some might hate them, it doesnt change CoH lore which paints a very clear picture that without the Paragon Protectors the Rikti would surely have overwhelmed and defeated our worlds opposition of their invasion. Just as the world owes a debt that can never be repaid to the Mistress of the Carnival for her part in saving Earth from the Rikti, so to every single person on Earth owes a life debt to Crey that is beyond any repayment the citizens of Earth could offer up short of absolute submission to the will of the Countess.
  20. After some more pondering Ill try to lay out a rough draft of how Id approach this idea. Positron part one would reward a 10 charged use of the portable crafting table. Positron part 2 would have a 5 part set, capped at lvl 20 in enhancement %s. Each part would be awarded in recipe form after each part of the tf was completed, and would only require inf and upon completion of the TF would have a help pop up telling players to use the portable workbench to craft the set parts. Id call this set something like Positrons Assistance. It would be a universal DMG set, and like any set be a mixture of aspects being enhanced, and rather then a proc, upon having all the set would grant a temp power called the same name as the set. This theoretical temp power would be a mixture of Enervating Field and Choking Cloud from Radiation emission and would be on the power tray only as long as the full set was slotted. This being based on Positrons power sets, and meant to be just that assistance from positron. Or alternatively could be a summon of Positron as an EB, that would have a 24 hour cooldown, allowing him to come to aid 1 time a day. This could then be used for each other set from the primary TFs, allowing players to have a way to call upon the help of the named heroes now and then while leveling after having helped them in turn. This is still just a rough idea but I think would do what the OPs own idea was meant to do, but I think do so in a very thematic and compelling manner that would temp many to perhaps keep these sets on an alt exemp friendly build even after capping, and even be popular for RPers who just like the idea of having the classic sig heroes show up as friends during RP.
  21. I think the idea while rough has potential. Perhaps acting as an extended tutorial about IOs and set bonuses. For example step one, these new IO sets would act as attuned IOs, but also have their max potential capped in the same way as any other IO set that only goes up to a certain level. Say Posi part 2( dont think part 1 really warrants a special reward frankly, too easy to solo on a fresh stalker) It would contain a set with each part rewarded at the end of each mish in the TF. Their power potential would be capped at lvl 20, but could contain useful procs, kind of acting as a replacement for the P2W vet enhancements that obsolete around that level. Each of the TF commander TFs could have a set like this( or in the case of the long mish chained ones like citadel and synapse several sets, to make leveling up less of a hassle especially for those not really familiar with IO crafting, as getting these set recipes would help encourage people to learn the system. While they would cap at low enough levels to make upgrading to real IO sets well worth it, they would also be just good enough to be better then a common SO build, and make running the TFs just a bit more appealing to tempt those that just PLV via AE and radio mishes to consider actually leveling through the varied content. As they wouldnt end up with a naked toon needed funding from a farm alt. So each TF , with the longer ones giving several sets, would naturally progress and prepare the rising hero with thematic if limited unique IO sets that would be %wise capped at the various levels, so only ones from Numina might end up being decent enough to be kept in a lvl 50 build. I feel this would help reduce the SO only types in a natural gradual way, helping close the gap with we who have no issue investing in top tier IO builds. It would also help reduce stress on the AH sold sets, making the attuned ones abit less sought after while leveling, as these theoretical new training IO sets would act as a viable alternative while leveling. As well as making the long often avoided TFs like synapse logically much more rewarding then the short speed tfs.
  22. This for me is the single biggest reason I fell in love with the game. The world might seem on the surface abit generic or a parody of the genre with characters like Statesman. Yet the lore of CoH is rich, and creates a great and diverse group of plots to build ones character from and bind them to the game world in a way we just cant in many others. For example on DDO( dungeons and dragons online) because the studio developing it wasnt hand in glove with its owners, they had to generic people who used for example a last name of one of the houses as part of their character to RP being a member of that house. Were as in CoH the devs loved and approved of such things.
  23. Give a man a fish and he eats for the day, teach a man to fish and they never go hungry again. Such true words, no matter ones faith. Giving away inf and telling people how to spend it isnt helping the community all that much imo. Teach people how to liquidate the merits they earn, or use them to play the converter game to get the rares they need, Help them to understand why some set bonus focuses help some power sets alot while others they are wasted on. Help them understand why some power sets compliment each other, and some cripple each other. Sadly OP your post comes across as hyperbolic and ranty, and a bit too egocentric. And coming from me that should say something lol.
  24. P2W imo doesnt actually exist within the pov of characters. Its basically a GM tool and there entirely to act as both a way for players to access the old vet powers and to act as an influence sink, because well every game needs such to drain off some of that earned and avoid excessive inflation. Yes from a player pov its our money, not from our character pov which is the main point I am trying to stress here. We see money at bank heists, and that is not the same as our inf. Inspirations are not physical objects to a character pov either imo even though from a player pov they are this games potions basically. I feel it is vital to the unique nature of the coh setting to keep such a division in mind.
  25. Thats like your opinion man. I see influence and what we use it for not as us buying anything but as our characters influence over the world and the greatfulness of the populace offering us what help they can from a in game world character pov. Or as fear and intimidation for infamy red side. I dont consider enhancements to be items in the conventional sense either, though some do clearly get defined as things via the name this is especially common for the magic SOs and the like which get called things like earings and what not. I know its certainly not perfect, but I am very much against the game world itself treating non money as money when it very much isnt. Otherwise objects like rubies would be way way more valuable inherently. Comicbook heroes are traditionally not motivated by a quest for personal wealth with only a few exceptions. Greed is more the drive of villains.
