  1. Agreed. Court cases are decided on the weight of the evidence, and the burden of proof always lies with the Plaintiff, not the defendant. And yes you could collect on those royalties...As the IP holder you decide what do with your IP, so if someone else is using it to make a profit, you will certainly be entitled to those profits should you bring suit. Your NCSoft theory is definitely another possibility
  2. I am not a lawyer either, just well versed in the basics of Intellectual Property laws. All I think it means is that they are getting ready for some legal action. No idea who, if anyone, is in their targets. We are a big target, if only for our population size, but that doesn't mean they are aiming at us. Your scenario could absolutely be case.
  3. Is it odd? Only a copyright attorney could tell you. Does it matter legally? No...there is ample evidence that the source code was created by Cryptic. If I write a novel, never publish it, and 20 years later I found out someone else took a copy, published itwith some small changes, and copyrighted 15 years ago, legally (provided I had evidence) I am the copyright holder, and this mysterious someone else (we will call him KHHAAAANNNN!) would forfeit copyright because they were not the original author, and did not permission to publish it.
  4. I missed that, sorry. I think play the forum game more than the actual game. I have ignored no one in game, but 2 people on the forums
  5. I knew that. I was just caught up in idea of my post I ran with it. Anyone else want to let me tell them to do?
  6. I'm in for this idea... Here's how you should play City of Heroes: Start by Creating a Character...It's a fun and necessary precursor to playing. The right way to do this is to spend time deciding what powerset will max your character the most, unless you like to roleplay, and then you might want to work on that bio and costume a bit more, unless you are in a hurry to play in which case you should just pick some fun powers, tweak your costume, and starting playing in less than 5 minutes. But you to choose from one or more of these three options, unless you came up with an option that's a better fit for you Go Heroside in Paragon City (it's by far the most fun), unless you want to walk on the wild Villain side n which the Rogue Isles are the most fun, but if neither of those fit and want a more nuanced experience, go for Praetoria (it's the most fun). How do you know the "RIGHT" one...go with your gut...besides you can easily change it later, if you don't mind stepping in Seagull poop You MUST do a tutorial unless you've already done one or are teaming up with someone who was done one. Your choice Now you are playing the game. What's important is deciding between 2 playstyles. You absolutely have to team your thru, and you must solo your way. My edict to you is try a little bit of both and decide what you like. And then play the way you choose: Solo, Team or Both Now the only way to get ahead in this game is to fight something and level. I absolutely insist you AE farm to powerlevel, unless you are busy doing DFB and TF's, in which case you must do that instead, however there as an exception to this rule I made special for you, if you like more story content, then you should run missions. Those are your only options - unless you street sweep or just want to hang out & roleplay Yeah...you've gotten enough experience to level - here's the best way to do it...go see a trainer and pick a power/enhancement slot. But which are the "right ones". You should only get Hasten. Just Hasten, you really don't need anything else. Well except maybe some other powers...but definitely Hasten, unless you really don't want it...it's still a free country What about Inf you say! The best way to earn is to defeat mobs. We've already covered playstyles so we won't regurgitate how you earn it, unless you have a rich alt, in which case, BANG, you hit the lottery But Spending Inf - this is where there are strict rules. You have to buy stuff with it. That's it. I'm sorry, I won't budge on this. How about Enhancements? Well there are a lot of opinions on this, but the one I'm going to enforce is get some. What about the Market? There 3 strategies you must use if you are using the market. 1.) Sell Stuff, 2.) Buy Stuff (which really helps with the last bullet), 3.) If you want to make a profit, buy the salvage and recipes you want, craft them, optional: convert them to something better, but here's where I get inflexible again - sell it for more than you spent on it. What about I/O's? Do I have to use them? I know you'll hear a lot of people tell you that they are much better use of time and money than Origin Enhancements, so it would be wise to listen, but I'll you to decide for yourself Do I have to roleplay? No, I'm flexible on this, but IF you do decide to, my one rule is this - Be Kind! Final Overarching Rule(s) I have: Be kind to others, Have Fun, take Hasten (or not), Have fun, Assume best intent from others because there is not tone on the internet, Have fun, So these are my demands of you. Let's hear yours. (+1 Inf for this post)
  7. I already put you on ignore because of how repulsive you would be to roleplay with based on your other threads. Thank you for your input, though. Well I don't entirely believe you are ignoring him (since you are replying to him). But I do agree 100% with everything you said, including ignoring him for the same reasons. Guess i have 2 on my ignore list
  8. Source please? So it was actually Massively overpowered interview with homecoming devs. Great reporting btw here the interview and attach is the gov doc with NC soft application. It's legit. https://massivelyop.com/2019/07/08/city-of-heroes-homecoming-interview/ https://cocatalog.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?v1=8&ti=1,8&Search_Arg=cityofheroes&Search_Code=TALL&CNT=25&PID=Lpi4amZpBFdoUxvXFRKVs1OEB&SEQ=20190621110320&SID=1 Thanks that helped. For clarity, you don't have to file for copyright. Copyright protection is held by the authors of the copyrighted work, or whoever they transfer the rights to. So, Cryptic held the copyright initially, maybe jointly with NCSoft as part of an agreement. And i would wager real money that the negotiated exit of Cryptic from City of Heroes, assigned all copyirghts (filed or unfiled) to NCSoft. Sadly, this might mean that NCSoft is preparing to protect their copyright somehow, and are just getting it into the public record as a prerequisite for legal action.
  9. Source please?
  10. I have two requests, specifically for Paladin +1 to letting me dismiss the pop up And also, please, for the love of God, make the damn pop up disappear once Pally’s defeated. I hate trying to find him only to find out he’s defeated
  11. You can click the Give Inf like below Trickshooters name. That always a nice thanks
  12. Boosts to 50 are a hard no from the Dev’s - this thread wasn’t about AE, but conveys the opinion on level skipping (click the quote link for more context)
  13. +2. One for LRSF and one for Stateman’s TF.
  14. Welcome Back to Paragon City!
  15. Maybe repost this on the Pine’s thread? https://forums.homecomingservers.com/index.php/topic,6298.0.html
  16. If this is a topic you are really interested in, then you should follow and post in this thread: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/index.php/topic,3407.0.html Lots of discussion, posts by the Devs...
  17. Catalysts and converters didn't drop on live, to my knowledge. Neither did PvP IOs outside of PvP zones, but now they do. Converters were treated as Rare Salvage for drops on live. Catalysts would drop only for Incarnate Content...Boosters, never dropped during live...
  18. Explicitly, no. Implicitly ... several times. Your post positively reeked of condescension towards slow-road soloists. Pax, I'm working on a character right now who 90% soloing all the content...Doing every mission from every contact...He's level 9 and my favorite character. I'm a diehard "Go Slow" kinda guy and I spend 50% of my time soloing and if you don't count my son playing with me in the same office, then I play 85% of the time solo or just with him. I did not see ANY condescension towards soloing or level speed. He did point some truths: The game used to encourage teaming, which was why there was a min team size on live (Homecoming did away with that) Teaming can be very fun...which is why you started Temporary Powers channel... You do miss out the team XP buffs which means you will lvl slower... I can't disagree with any of those, can you? Stop and reread his post, but do it without emotion and take the words at face value. There are so many nuances that face to face or voice to voice conveys, that are lost on the internet. You really can't tell on the surface is somebody is serious, condescending or sarcastic. Why not assume the best? We are heroes after all.
  19. Soooo tempted to drop in a Vizzini GIF or meme, but I'm stuck at work... :P I dangled the bait and you just can't bite...you know what that is...it's inconceivable
  20. You had to buy ($$) them on live...and I don't see anything in patch notes about making it drop...so I think apart from moving lots of things you used to have to pay for to the Merit Vendor and P2W, nothing else has changed...Which means no drops.
  21. Perhaps, one of these days, these publishers will figure out ways to INCLUDE folks that want to play their stuff, rather than going to all the trouble to legally EXCLUDE them. It's rather sad that the scenario just keeps repeating, but I suppose that is the nature of profit-driven business. Money first, and foremost. The customers who supply that money, much lower on the priority list. Both Blizzard and NCSoft are public companies, which means they are *required* to generate profits for their shareholders. Ideally that means increasing customer counts, or generating more revenue from existing customers. Take Blizzard for example - they were going after private servers because those players were essentially playing the same game as paying customers, but for free. Blizzard shut them down, knowing that many of the people they shut down would just say "Screw it...I'm done with you Blizzard" (which doesn't really hurt Blizzard because these people were playing for free), but some people would come crawling back resubscribe. In NCSoft's case, I think part of the reason they aren't doing anything is because CoH is dead right now, and we aren't competing for customers...
  22. I can't imagine why that doesn't work...The Pillar shouldn't be tracking things on an account level, just a character level...You could remove the Pillar and put it back in and see if that "resets" it.
  23. I got nothing. The Numpad Bind works because the target is selected in the bind...but there wouldn't be a way to Unselect-PAUSE TO WAIT FOR SELECTION-Fire Power. No matter how you slice it, it's going to have 2 parts...The earlier bind you references SHOULD work if you've clicked Sally prior to firing the bind, but if it isn't working, I'm no help As for reaction times...I totally hear you...My 10 year old has faster reaction times than I do now...
  24. If they could find a way to leaglly just take all the excess donations and give that to 'real life heroes' - vets, fire-rescue, orphanages - IMO, it could turn into something bigger.... I can imagine a legal way for a non-profit to pass on to another one, but IANAL. I'm not a lawyer either but I do a lot of consulting for them. Homecoming by itself is not a charity...There are specific types of causes for a 501©(3) - religious, charitable, scientific, literary, or educational purposes, for testing for public safety, to foster national or international amateur sports competition, for the prevention of cruelty to children, women, or animals. And we don't fit in any of these buckets. So my guess is that we will become a "Friends" organization that assists another charitable organization by donating funds to another charity. In fact I've been championing the exact same idea on the donations threads (think I got the idea from you and Burnt Toast)
  25. It's not inconceivable that a support ticket might do the trick (if I am using the word inconceivable correctly)
