The Welcome Wagon for new roleplayers, and old!
Crystal Dragon replied to Crystal Dragon's topic in Roleplaying
*Clubs, Bars, and other base location owners are welcome to send me base codes to host classes in. We look specifically for calm, quiet spaces with less flashing/overly bright lighting. Recommended spaces are needed and the quieter spaces provide the best possible environments for lessons without distractions. -

Happy new year everyone and yes, classes will be starting up again on the 7th of this month. We have a slide deck to help new mentors keep up with each lesson plan for the classes. (Thank you Diva.) We are using google calendar for scheduling class times and to give mentors a chance to sign up for helping host. (The forum built one is reallllly wonky for this, tried and failed at it personally.) We have new mentors joining the club to help out! *throws hands in the air in a cheer!* (Yes, we are always welcoming new volunteers!) We have two (2) scheduled classes per night with our semesters now. Scheduling them at 5PM and 9PM (EST) Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with Monday reserved for workshopping (Which will take place at the same time slots.) We do have a new years resolution with this club and we hope to achieve it with keeping the community informed, safe, and creatively driven. No changes in the lesson planner so far, everything seems to naturally fall into line for each subject topic for the classes, so if anyone has suggestions, recommendations, or even ideas to help improve our classes, let us know! -
Credits to Occult for this one. Memory can be a really tricky aspect for roleplaying and a lot of the times it becomes background information. What is the most beautiful, or haunting memory your character has? I suppose a dragon would have many, but Crys' has only a few memories of her home world that really stuck to her. A lucky thing given what all had occurred there. The most haunting memory was the shadow of her brothers looming over her and her first nest before the wars started. Something about the way they were hovering over her and her beginning family really struck a terrifying chord with her and sometimes, even now, she jumps at shadows of larger people around her. The most beautiful memory however, was the hatching of her three whelps in this world, she didn't get that chance to be a real mother back in her world and she absolutely revels in it in this world.

Credits to @Nagoth for the topic suggestion. You remember the one that got away, the one that you let go? Why did you do it? For my dragon, it was a matter of understanding where that criminal was coming from and desiring a change in how the justice system worked. The zig only can handle so many criminals, and some truly do want to change if only given a hand to make it possible. So, she let their crimes slide, and did the unexpected, she offered them a legitimate job, a place within her super group, and provided for them a regular stipend to help them afford a home of their own to get off the streets and provide for themselves a stable income doing what they enjoyed the most, studying. Of course, the person was under aged, and often getting in trouble with the Vanguard, but with some gentle urgings and nudging in the right direction along the way, they are growing up happy, healthy, and cared for, where if they were sent to the zig for their crimes, they would have ended up back in the streets.

Homecoming Support Closure (Dec. 22 - Dec. 29)
Crystal Dragon replied to Cipher's topic in Announcements
From my family to all of yours, may you have the happiest of holidays, and the most blessed of new years, HC staff. You guys are doing amazing work and well deserve the break to spend with your families and loved ones. ❤️ (And yes, I took some liberties with the poem.) -
You do not have to be invited to join the RP community channel, however the code of conduct is something we do uphold in the global space. @VileTerror is the one that pointed me that way as well when I first started looking around for connections too. I'd recommend City of RP's discord as well. @Shadeknight can point ya in the right direction for that too.
-
(Thank you Papa Nandez on the City of RP discord for this suggestion!) Friendly or not. How/why did it start? How long has it lasted? Did the rivalry ever get resolved? I'll be honest, I really don't know if Crys' has a rival or not. She just kind of does her own thing, helps people that ask for it, and kicks booty when she's called to do so. Otherwise, she's generally a pretty calm, laid back individual. I can only think of one time she had anything close to a rivalry, and that's with Areia, but it's more a tense sort of bickering friendship these days. That one lasted about three, or four months? They crossed paths over Crys' first mate, Darisek and Areia's interest had Crys' a bit cross with her for a while. I can't say it's been resolved but I can say that it's less of a tense situation than it was when they first crossed each other.

Kaleidoscope: Five Short Stories about HardLight

(I..oh man, I need to see this at some point first hand on Crys, I'm pretty sure she'd keel over trying to keep her feathers from flying off with laughter.)

This ones going to be a little silly and light hearted but given the last prompt, I felt it was appropriate. So here we go! What are some of your characters favorite firsts? I suppose Cry's favorite first, was the first time she tried an egg roll from the Lucky Egg take out place in Atlas Park. I kid you not, she had eaten some good food in the past, but egg rolls for some reason turned out to be a complete culinary obsession for her, and a means to judge whether a buffet or asian place is any good. For her, if it doesn't have the right kind of crisp to the eggroll shell, or the right flavors inside the shell, it just won't do and she'd pay her bill and leave without a second thought. It's funny cause the few people that DO know that she loves a good eggroll, often bring her some at the Vanguard base while she's on shift, just so she can be a happy sparkle dragon for a few hours. Another favorite first was when Crys' offered to take in Kami when her father was sniped in the Warzone. Instead of just fostering Kami, she ended up legally adopting her, and that's a memory that's really close to Crys' heart. Her kids on the other hand, well, their first MSR run with the regulars at the Vanguard base was probably one of their favorite memories. Aki brought home a massive Rikti sword to put on display in the trophy area of the den, and Nee brought home a Rikti skull (Sans such in the base items, turned into a human skull on display.), Cloudberry brought home a chunk of Rikti ship shielding which their uncle Daris is studying to learn about it's attributes and to help improve Cloud's armor that he made for them. They are favorite firsts for many reasons, but dragon whelps didn't get to do any of this back on Pellea, and Crys cherishes the freedoms these whelps of hers have in Prime.

Crystal Dragon's commissions showcase
Crystal Dragon replied to Crystal Dragon's topic in Art & Multimedia
Christmas gift art for many of the CU members and officers. Goddess Diana Icefire Kallisti Gold Phephe Serj Quick Trix Wylde Fyre Helen A Handbasket Unruly Disgruntled Krow I've been trying to round out my renders a bit more with covering aspects of costuming that usually are really glitchy with the AI engine. Surprisingly, Disgruntled was the hardest one to get -just right- because of his glow effect for his costume. I've always figured that a living star would have an odd skin tone and the blue really stood out to fit how he displays in game to me in my minds eye anyhow. Kallisti and I talked over hers, took a bit of tweaking to get the eyes just right, but that expression totally fit the whole "Girl, you got to be joking if your wearing those shoes out tonight.." sort of look on her face. Phephe was a bit easier, her description she shared with me helped out quite a bit and talking to her while working on that one gave me a clearer idea on what fit the character as a whole. This year has been rough for everyone in the community, and I wanted to share some of the beautiful faces that helped keep my own head up and going in spite of the difficulties my own family has been facing in recent times. So much respect for these people. So much love to them all for helping and being such an amazing engaging coalition to be part of. Thank you CU, thank you Everlasting, and most importantly, thank you HC for keeping our little home alive and well.- 4 replies

This is the first trigger-warning writing prompt, so if you are anxious or triggered by death mentions, violence, or threat of harm I hope that you exit the thread. I care about your mental health and do not wish to cause any episodic flashbacks, collapse or upset for you. Your well being is priority #1. For those wishing to read more and write replies, read on under the spoiler line, and please, if you have content to add that might make others uncomfortable, spoiler it. Thank you. Again, I warn, this is triggery content, but is safe to post without delving into explicit detail. (Yes double checked with forum COC to stay within the rules, if you feel your content might break them, please review them to make sure and edit as you feel needed. Stay within the PG-13 range content wise for guidelines.)

RP and OOC Global Channels' Code of Conduct
Crystal Dragon replied to MetaVileTerror's topic in Roleplaying
So um, my opinions are my own but I wanted to share my views a bit since VT is asking for input. I do feel that the channel needs more activity and usage guidelines. To keep down spam, and allow players to invite and engage other players looking for roleplaying events, locations and such, up to and including the clubs, cafes, and base locations that are being opened to the public for RP use. LFG has been the main tool to draw notice for many of these locations, but I feel that the RP channel would be made to better use for RP oriented location and event notifications either in the MOTD, or regular RP notices in the channel without disrupting active RP communication happening in the channel at that time. The OOC channel DOES get a bit of use, but not nearly as much as it would require an update in the guidelines. I feel like it's pretty much common sense that drama is kept to a minimum and using the OOC channel has helped with keeping players involved with the community up to date, and informed on OOC planning, plotting, and event ideas for the community. So, that is all I can say of that. I feel that we do need to promote the use of these channels to help culminate the community activities further, but at this time, I will try to keep the channels as recommended to my class groups when we start teaching again in the coming year. -
Writing Prompt #11: Childhood crimes
Crystal Dragon replied to Crystal Dragon's topic in Roleplaying
(OOC meme impulse activated) -
As a normal citizen we go about the day through a usual normalcy. But there are moments that force us to take a closer look at what we are doing, and question whether this will change the world we live in. What inspired your character to take on the cape or mask? How did this define them? Was it an event, or personal experience that motivated them? Crys' taking on the "cape and mask" was sort of accident, truth be told. Her arrival here was something of an unexpected event in her life, and dragged her through five dimensional layers into a dusty, moldy smelling summoning chamber and had immediately attempted to protect herself - she didn't know she had completely laid waste to a novice seer studying an old book and mumbling out phrases unknown to them, nor did she know that it was a human that had called her out between the universes. But what she did know in that moment, was that the person calling her had powerful intentions to enslave the one answering the calling summon, much like one would bind a daemon. Dragons don't make that great of servants, too free willed and often times too powerful to be chained to a single being for long. Especially the kind that Crys' is. That moment was what set her on what Crys' could do to help this city and the world tied to it, she hadn't realized it then, but she knows it now. That spell chamber she had been summoned into? It lays encapsulated by arcane barriers, and layers upon layers of wards to prevent anyone from disturbing the remains of the novice that had called out to her, out of guilt...and out of triumph.

Decorating Base Christmas Trees - Tips and Tricks?
Crystal Dragon replied to GM GoodNyght's topic in Base Construction
I actually found a lot of the effects from the Arcane FX can work for replacement of tinsel, and lighting too. I'd been toying around with the lighting to get it right but the mounted lights can be REALLY hard to adjust to look right. Um, I have seen a few people pull it off though, it can be pretty twitchy but it is entirely possible to get them to mount right. -
Kids will be kids, but everyone has a different type of upbringing and different experiences that sort of stick to them like glue. What kind of crimes did your character commit as a child? Crys' liked to sneak snacks, stealing them from her siblings, or the clan tables during festivals. It wasn't until she was caught in the act and reprimanded for it, that she stopped but she was quite young at the time it happened, probably around 3 to 5 years of age at that time.
