Rewrite Lt Harris's arc redside so it's not so offensive
Leogunner replied to GamerKate's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Correction: NO ONE should have to die for ANYONE to deal with their shit. But yeah, equality amirite? OR! We can just accept that there is writing we do not like and do our best to make better products in the future. Rail on about how you can do it better, sure. You however open yourself up to just as much criticism so be prepared. -
Rewrite Lt Harris's arc redside so it's not so offensive
Leogunner replied to GamerKate's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I find it funny how people are latching onto how the objective states that Page is his GF as inaccurate. Uh, no duh. Technically, that flavor text is your character being cheeky and intentionally offensive to Harris. It's actually a jab at Harris, not Page. It's very common, actually, to poke fun of guys that are single or who do not have the game to get the person they have their eye on...but no one is actually arguing how it is offensive toward Harris at all lol. Apparently, we're to assume it's a direct jab at Page who doesn't even know or could have any idea that text or intent exists until we confront her. Contrarily, with Harris, who we directly interact with, it is implied we corrupt or spark his emotions intentionally. But ok. I'm glad you're keeping it real and looking out for the wahmens. Keep up the good work :P -
Rewrite Lt Harris's arc redside so it's not so offensive
Leogunner replied to GamerKate's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
OP, I'm sorry you cannot separate gender politics from a revenge story. Harris isn't attacking women for his hatred of women. He's attacking someone who he felt slighted by. If the genders were reverse or same sex, the premise wouldn't change which should have been your clue to treat your thesis. Also, just because a women became a victim of a crime doesn't mean we can put fault to an entire demographic or use trope theory to explain away a cliché. Utitimately, the story was cliché, yes, but you're attacking the issue from a completely defensible angle. -
No advice on the actual build but something about the theme and power choices: So you slot flares? Maybe it's been a while and a change was made in a later issue but flares always was crap. Also, you didn't slot chillblain. Considering you don't have any offensive ice powers on a black mage makes me wonder why you even went for ice as a secondary at all. And last I checked, black mages are glass cannons. I guess I'm just a theme purist and you just want to wear the costume. So disregard lol

How are you guys feeling about Psionic Melee?
Leogunner replied to Replacement's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I thought the same thing. Like if the sets gimmick was more akin to dual pistols or staff and psi melee would have toggles that change the damage typing between psi/lethal and psi/smashing. -
When to spend influence on Enhancements?
Leogunner replied to Spotlore's topic in General Discussion
As you are leveling, you are always getting inf, salvage and recipes. Use them. Look on the AH to see the price of a recipe or its resultant enhancement. See if it's in demand and put it up on the market. You're not only helping yourself by making inf but you're helping others who are trying to make their builds better. That being said, I can't believe people would even dream of waiting until level 50 to get enhancements. Even waiting until 30 is horrible. The time it takes to get there on non-farm terms is to long. My advice : * Do whatever for the 1st 17 levels. If you want, buy DO enhancements but I'd recommend just using what drops for you. * 17-22 either buy SO enhancement or craft lvl 20/25 Basic IOs. If you don't use them, sell them. * 22+, start slotting level 25 or above until you decide you want to slot set IOs * You get a free respec every 10 levels. When you decide you don't want your basic IOs anymore, respec and put them in your inventory and put them on the market or mail them to another alt. There is absolutely no reason to go without enhancements for longer than the first 22 levels. -
No. Assault are already hybrid sets. Making the at both melee, ranged, buff/debuff and armor is too much for the main AT sets. I'd also ammend to that that I feel those blended sets (assault, manipulation and pets) were made for their respective AT, not like the basic powersets. I had this idea for an AT in the past, the main thing I suggested was to alter their buff/debuff powers to have smaller range and target cap but remain near defender levels.

Nul the gull kheldian toggle please.
Leogunner replied to Gauntlet_Prime's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
This is a game, which does not have to follow every rule of reality. The reality is that the concept of equality and fairness are steeped in the biases of those that it appeals to. Meaning, what fairness IS will be different from person to person thus difficult, if not impossible, to reach. Ever hear the slippery slope argument that the only way to make everything fair in a game is to make everything homogeneous and boring? -
Nul the gull kheldian toggle please.
Leogunner replied to Gauntlet_Prime's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
They object to the addition of enemy types to non-Kheldian mission arc mob spawns that serve as a deliberate hard counter to HEATs, when both the VEATs don't have similar issues, and when Kheldians aren't so powerful that they warrant the addition of such enemies to keep them in check. I never liked arguments based on equality. It's always a last ditch effort to appeal to the concept of fairness, flying in the face of reality which isn't fair. The Kheld hunters are a lore-based addition to the game. If you want to argue to change that, just say you don't care about their lore and let you play how you want. -
[Proposal] UNGIMPING basic Peacebringer design game mechanics
Leogunner replied to Redlynne's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
After reading the 1st 2 pages, I was coming in the thread to post that. Playing my DP blasters, I do enjoy the knockback on Bullet Rain even though it's only a chance as it gives me some extra strategy to utilize on teams. Yeah, I can just use my special ammo all the time or I can get a bit more mileage, turn special ammo off, push these guys against that wall, turn it back on and fill up my cone. Is it more DPS? maybe not, considering I still have to reposition, but it IS more engaging and can work better into team strats. I'd suggest a toggle that changes knockback to knockup but lowers the chances and a click to go with it that boosts knock-chance for a short duration...a build-up for your knockback. -
this was a poor choice of topic title for this question, but it sounds like you'd enjoy Dominator or a VEAT. With several exceptions, Defender and Corr action economy is often used on a debuff cycle at the beginning of combat that means you still sort of "stand back and do X," and then combat's over. VEATs, particularly Night Widows and certain Crabs, have a more involved cycle that requires mixed ranges and awareness of team position. Dominators need to use melee, range, and controls to get the most out of their class, and so have a multi-stage engagement process that can be very satisfying when it comes together. Can you tell me more about the VEATs like their strength and weaknesses or what resources they bring to a team? Or even better point me to such a resource? I'd echo jack's statements. On the blaster build, you're talking about a blast setup that can make PBAoEs shine but you've delegated yourself to ranged blasting. You say it's unneeded risk to the team but you're not understanding that a team is meant to cover that risk and everyone is constantly assessing risks. Consider if everyone took your method of team strategies: obviously, the safest method of engagement is pulling. While pulling is a good strategy, one can assess risks so that we can cover over the dangers and use a faster (and more fun) strategy. tl;dr: your build likely would benefit from getting in close sometimes as it will be one of the staples of the main set. Secondly, his statements on action economy is good too. As a longtime Stalker, some of the best team support is removing the enemy's team support. That's what Stalkers, Scrappers, Blasters, Dominators and probably a couple other ATs I'm missing, are good at. Other support ATs exchange that for cycles of debuffs and CCs. It'll end up being the same though, but rather than cycling attacks, you'll be cycling debuffs, especially if you're dark miasma. Thirdly, I'll echo the sentiment about dominators. There's not enough of them for just how nice their threat management is. Not only that but they've got effective offense as well and a pretty broad amount of power concepts available. It's challenging and fun but a lot can fall to your shoulders if things get hairy....also also, it might teach you how to utilize Blaster effectively as a Dominator's more effective damage requires you to hammer some melee in there too. As for the VEATs, I've not played any but from teaming with them, their action economy, as jacks mentioned, is more open. Their buffs are "passive" for the most part and their attacks come built in with CC and debuffs. Rather than delegate a certain amount of actions to buffs/debuffs then get some blasting in, they're just always doing both. Lastly, perhaps you might like HEATs. They can switch between tanking/melee and blasting so you can just switch when you get bored of one.

Interesting. Thanks for the info, guys. I also heard the shape of some cones were changed to make them wider and easier to use which is what made me curious in the first place but csr said it was the reverse? So cones are now smaller? I think the first character I'm going to mess around with is Dual Pistols.

It's the weekend and my alt-itis is picking up. I haven't touched Sentinel's except today but found out that besides the AT mechanic in the primary 1 and 2 attacks, there were other things changed for Sentinel's primaries. Since I play Blasters not to be the biggest DPS peen on the team but rather to have max fun with the blast sets, this has piqued my interest in Sentinel. Can you tell me some of the cool changes that makes the blast sets more intriguing to get some ideas flowing for me? I think I heard there are new powers in the secondaries too but I'm playing the AT for the primaries.

But the topic is about Regeneration under-performing both in general, and specifically compared to another set - Willpower - which largely does what Regeneration was originally created to do, in addition to other thing. Regen's niche is occupied, and it is not balanced. (In any case WP's gimmick is more that it's a little bit of everything: More health, regen, recovery, resists, and defenses all layered on top of each other with the hopes that something's gonna run into at least a little trouble with dealing damage to you, with the main drawbacks being a lack of a direct heal and the fact that you're not really a silver bullet against any particular enemy group or damage type.) Although I have no qualms with changing or improving Regeneration, you sort of hit my point on the head: So Willpower does a bit of everything with regards to mitigation methods...and it simulates passive regeneration better than Regen...so with respect to logic, passive regeneration, mechanically, SHOULD be the parts that Willpower presents. What Regeneration is is some type of damage negation ability, thus we should probably make changes to it not to help it fill the role it's "supposed" to fill because it's called Regen, but what such a superpower as damage negation actually entails mechanically. A set built on the literal concept of the HP regen mechanic doesn't simulate comic book passive regen because time tends to be a factor of plot which is what passive regeneration requires, time. I'm still skimming over the suggestions posted but I just wanted to express my opinion on the basis of the thread as well. Off Topic: I actually thought about this set thoroughly back during live. My only Regen character was an Elec/Regen Stalker and his concept was actually damage negation, not regeneration. Basically, he could become injured and then "seal" away the injury with magic, becoming a kind of mark/tatoo on his skin. He's still injured but the damage/pain/effects of the injury are stopped. He would still have to go back and undo the seal so that his injury could heal properly but he could technically have his arm ripped off and just negate it until a time he could deal with the injury fully. This, IMO, is what the Regeneration set ACTUALLY simulates.

I've always been of the belief that a name isn't as important as the outcome. That is, just because the set says "Regeneration" in the name and the initial intent was to make a Wolverine-esque type defensive powerset, if another set does and looks like the desired goal, it's fine as long as each individual set has somewhat of a niche and remains balanced. So Wolverine is a guy with claws that regenerates injuries quick and passively...in CoX terms, he's Claws/WP and there's nothing wrong with that.

I think there is already a decent amount of villain content. It's more the normal content...as a villain, I think we fight more villains (Soldiers of Arachnos) than hero side does. Consider how annoying they can be to fight, I wonder how the distribution would be affected if 75% of hero missions were filled with Arachnos.

Villain of the day: Monday "Henpecked Husband" Torchbearer
Leogunner replied to Yipp's topic in General Discussion
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. noun 1. a person who presents stories in a way that is intended to provoke public interest or excitement, at the expense of accuracy. "sensationalists got their kicks out of misreporting the murder" I'd say exaggerating the context to invoke a moral argument about domestic violence could be considered a form of sensationalism. -

False equivalence is a logical fallacy in which two completely opposing arguments appear to be logically equivalent when in fact they are not. This fallacy is categorized as a fallacy of inconsistency I’m not stepping into the rest of this dreck storm, but his point was your counter to his point was poorly made and illogical. My thought was, if she makes the illusions than she is the one gas lighting people and you should come up with a better strawman if you want to keep going. The only thing illogical here is your expectation for an equivalence to retain complete consistency when, in reality, that isn't and cannot be the case. There is no equivalent example of a man nagging a woman and "de-effeminate" her. Heck, there isn't even a word in English for it as both emasculate and effeminate are derogatory terms targeted at men. OK, I am going to step into the line of fire a little and explain why this isn't actually funny. Do you know what we call a man who continuously nags, berates and otherwise belittles a woman? An abuser. It's one of the more classic forms of non-physical spousal abuse, in fact. Frankly, the "nag, emasculate" thing is something stupid people came up with to try and rationalise away a man being a victim when the more unpleasant forms of masculine expression (that even some women buy into) deny the possibility that a man can be a victim. She's a nag, she's a shrew, she emasculates me, because gods forbid I could ever be described as being the victim of abuse from an actual woman. I just don't find domestic abuse funny. Domestic abuse isn't funny. What is described in that bio isn't the degree you make it. I'd akin it to the subject of bullying. Duh, bullying is bad but damnit, it serves a purpose in moderate doses. Had Rachel being physically harming him or some other circumstance of emotional or psychological abuse, you might not sound like a sensationalist. The only thing describe, really, is that their relationship has hit shore and something needs to change (both of them) to get the ship sailing again. It's a parody of a bad relationship which do happen and aren't always some moral soapbox to espouse platitudes on how people's experiences can be bad or affect them greatly. We know. But this is a joke. Learn to laugh or at least not ruin other people's fun. -
DANG IT! I ****ING KNEW IT! Just doing basic testing, I noticed the number of DoTs didn't really change. I was noticing a whopping 1 extra DoT which could have just been me miscounting to 4 lol Even at max stacks, the DoTs always were random (could be 2 DoTs, could be 4, could be 0). I want to say I saw an increase in the damage of Hemorrage's DoTs at max stacks but it could have also been the buff from Blood Thirst or maybe even fury. I did not test how much increase enhancing did nor did I really go into testing how much fury increased the damage because I was so focused on how long/many DoTs occurred. Frankly, I don't see why it would have been overlooked for damage to affect the DoTs because other sets have DoTs and those are affected by +dmg (right?). Perhaps a complication or alternative implementation to this set's DoTs occurred as they tried to create a set whose DoTs increased in duration/damage depending on a buff the caster has (blood stacks). Now I'm genuinely curious what is actually going on with this set...

The thing is, equality, that thing people tout and rant and protest for is perpetuated on false equivalency. Because equality doesn't and cannot exist between men and women. Men and women aren't treated the same, men don't want to be treated like women and women don't like being treated like men...but equality anyway? Why? Why is one ok and not the other, please educate me? Double standards are bad, and shutting down innocent humor is even worse. Because if a marriage turns out bad it's never the woman's fault. It's always up to the man to make things work out and when they don't, everything that happens in the divorce is always justified and everything the estranged husband and wife end up getting is deserved. Come on, it's 20XX. Get with the program ::) -
