  1. Made it to level 15 and figured I'd add a couple thoughts on the progress so far. First is to note that the set takes off as early as level 10 when you get disintegrate. You start seeing that you want your targets to be higher in level since you "arrest" in two or 3 shots. Not more bad guys, but higher level make you happy. I've taken out +2 EB, +3 Bosses and +4 lts. Second, there is an unexpected awesome power in Neurotoxic Breath. The slow is nice, but the -rech is particularly strong. So minions basically take one shot (neutered with Weakness) and spend the rest of their time running to you. If you just stand there, for one more chance at a hit you get a nice cluster by the time your Envenom and Weaken are ready. It's really a kinda nice way to get around the 8 ft splash limitation on those powers. Third, I've only been held like once and KB like twice which is strange. I'm wondering if perhaps this is weakness doing it's debuff of mezz thing and the mezzes are now getting small enough to be unnoticed. Probably not, but it makes me think that getting the mezzes down to 33% or so could be possible if slotted correctly. That makes me wonder if it would be worth it to do over say another 5% Defense added. Overall, it's a fun set so far and undervalued, imo.
  2. Yeah, Cutting Beam on the cutting room floor was intentional... for now. It allowed me to save a couple slots and add in a little extra defense. I am hoping to get most of the minion damage (solo) from the poison trap while i worked the bosses over. I know it's not optimal but might actually be enough. If that doesn't work then yeah, I'll have to do a small rewrite. He's only a small fry right now (level 10ish), but that'll change soon enough.
  3. I think Naff could be higher on the list myself. What to consider with it is the sneaky advantage of end gain (and end redux) going with HoTs to leave you in the fight longer. This goes with the -dam, -tohit, +dam that are all significant and makes for a more viable then at first glance contestant for AV hunter.
  4. Hey all. Thought I'd make a try at a Poison/BR character and while working him up in Pines I came up with a thought. Throw in Presence line and see if I could actually make it work. I also tried to throw in a few extra procs for some extra control. Have a look and tell me what you think. Anything you would do differently? Am I missing anything important? Is the Presence line just so horrid that I'm going to frustrate myself? Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 1.962 http://www.cohplanner.com/ Click this DataLink to open the build! 5. Has anyone ever done a "in Total" damage comparison between a Def and a Corrupt? I'm imagining a same set comparison including what gets added with buffs/debuffs? I'm sure there are certain sets that would come out ahead for the defender. Perhaps a Poison/Sonic Defender vs a Sonic/Poison Corrupter?
  6. Actually, would depend more on your secondary and any tertiary pools you draw from. Even if you take Soul, you can easily get Power Boost (for mega debuffs) down into the 40ish range. I've been toying with the idea (for a Poison/BR of going for ranged D only and trying out the hold procs available... maybe even inviso power (stealth + SS) and then getting Presence line.
  7. That's the thing about defenders, any combination produces great results. mixed or matched. Think about 2 naff defenders. Just Wild growth and you get 378% regen and about 46% resist to all. Add in Overgrowth and you come up to 56% tohit, 165% damage and about 150% end redux. It's all awesome when defenders work together. :)
  8. I hear ya, Tex. I suspect when TA came out there were still lingering thoughts with the devs that giving a damage power to a defender had to come with subtracting buff/debuff ability. That being said, even though the ones you mentioned are clearly cream of the crop, I can still have fun with my "lesser" defender. :)
  9. There was an old posting (I think it was by Dechs Kaison) about a Poison/BR build that looked really promising if you can find it. Basically, embrace lots of defensive powers and the fact you will faceplant (I think he had soul transfer on it) but it had huge amounts of single target kill to it. Come to think of it, it might have been a corrupter... carry on. :)
  10. Tex, you had a great thought about the PGA being a non-notify power. So I was looking around and found a pacify proc. in the sleep enhancers (Fortunada one) that looks like it would pacify 90% according to Pines. If that works, it's the next to best option. I'm definitely gonna try it out. And just to show you what I meant earlier on Flash Arrow: If you add BU and Intuition Radial Paragon to FA you can get a -tohit number near 17% for 60 seconds. Remember that can't be taken out of the equation for the duration.
  11. I'd like to vote for both to stay on the island. S. Song is a great way to set up some groovy things like a toe bomb or just take a break mid battle for to rech/endo. Screech just adds to your stunning tier 9 pbaoe for boss level action.
  12. Hey Tex, Thought I would have to stand up for TA for just a sec. Not trying to start a fight. -remove crash from emp? I'm all for it in the days of crash-less nukes, but you can easily keep blasting anyway with a defender. -OSA is a bigger nuke than most defender tier 9s (not ice) so having it up about as often, slightly more is probably right... which it is. And don't forget it has an inherent k-down patch a la ice trollers as a bonus. -Disruption arrow up to 30%? that gives a 50% total for bosses which is hard for most any set to hit individually and with OSA it makes the damage potential there go w00. Don't think the devs would have gone for it. -PGA being non-notify... interesting idea. I kinda like it, but prefer having the tier 2 sleep because I can take out minions when solo and save em for last. -Flash Arrow increase in the debuff to 12.5%. Would be a severely overpowered treat like that. The key to FA for me was always the -tohit was un-resisted. So with your values, plus slotting and PBU you could throw a -tohit of 30% or more (sorry at work so not completely sure of numbers) that is unresisted and makes your entire team stealthed. Now make that two chars and no damage complaints anywhere. I ran a TA/sonic back in the day and am having fun growing a TA/dark currently. Last point, TA is a beast in an open pvp environment.
  13. Only two complete answers I know of are Traps and FF. Even with those you have to get kb prot IOs but it's enough to hold down things. You might still have holes to sleep (not sure) but if not hitting, then no problem. Sonic defenders actually have a hard time with the sleep hole as it seems everyone and their dog has a sleep in their powers past level 40. and yeah, Rune of Protection is very nice even with the recharge.
  14. Having spent quite a few hours on a Sonic/Sonic back in the day, I would have 3 suggestions to help out a Sonic Resonance char. A sleep resistance should have been added to Sonic Dispersion. Just a mag 2 or 3 would have been very helpful. Bubblers have to be hit for that to take effect, but Ringers are always hit. the amount of mobs who had a sleep moment in their attacks by level 40 was absurd. I know they made a change to suppress instead of deactivate, but it wasn't helpful enough for solo content. The recharge in Liquefy was set too high considering it's a patch that last 30 seconds on a 300 second recharge. Making it possible to be perma with lots of rech would make like much better for the Sonic Resonance char. The last change I would provide is to make a melee pet out of one of the Villain Patron sets. That would allow the Sonic char the ability to have a Disruption field on the pet or even sonic Repulsion adding lots of variability in play. All this would make the char more playable solo or in teams. Just my two cents and I used the Sonic Cage a lot of the time. It let me go against higher levels than I could have done without, got some heal totems out of the way. escape plan for an EB... stuff like that.
  15. When CoH was live, I had a Naff/DP that I loved. So I'm putting him together again and wanted some input on a potential build. The idea is to make him a bit of a Deftroller with holds, confuse, sleep, a placate and an oh crap power. I'm hoping to use the invis, sleep, maybe even the placate to set up a group until the holds/confuse bite and then go to aoe town. Have a look and see if you can think of how I can improve my little project. I think it's ok but peer review is always helpful. 16. FYI: Caltrops have a mag 50 terror (so they run) and are quite fun to add the kdown proc to it. Forgot the name.
  17. I had to raise this post from the grave because it looks like there wasn't a lot of response from people who have Defendered both. I see lots of good info on Time from everyone and I'll just add that it's very good and will leave you feeling very strong, almost Tankerish. The only big downsides are you are looking for strong extra damage from outside sources (other than the -res bubble of deth). It also can present some end issue believe it or not. Time with a fast attack chain is a constant battle to keep the endurance flowing (how I felt with my Time/Ice) Note: the procs you can add in to Time's Juncture will have mobs flocking to you. Let these be some of the last IOs you slot, but they do their job very nicely. I Highly suggest Soul Mastery for the epic for Time, cuz of all the wonderful bonuses to almost all of your stuff. Makes good go to ridiculous. On to Nat. Aff. What Erydanus was saying is all correct and good info but I played a Naff/DP toward the end of the game and it was possibly my favorite of all time. One of the ways I like it better than Time is due to the synergy with IOs (we can always build up defenses, but resist is hard). With that combo, I was able to solo AV level Manticore in the early 30s (for those who know that's prior to the best single target damage chain from DP. The resist is about scrapper level (23ish%) and your Regen rates when adding life-giving spores. and surprisingly good amount of end popping off too. Entangle Aura is a very useful power as it combines with a hold proc. (forgot name) to provide lots of damage mit in melee range. Then there's the love of my life Overgrowth. Not only does it do lots of +damage and tohit, but the end discount is an unknown beauty. It allows you to do some stuff that Time can't do which is keep the damage coming. That battle lasted like half an hour and I never used anything other than BFs and two purples at the beginning of the fight. Overall, Naff is a trickier set to make into a grade A Offender, but the end result should be very pretty... and Strong! Mine only made it to about 35ish, but I'm redoing it now.
  18. Here's an older one I was working on at close. It's not perma anything but close on hasten, chrono shift and the pet. It's an awesome set and will make you feel like a tank.
