Positive Gamer No Longer Playing CoH, Very Horrible Story
Solarverse replied to Solarverse's topic in General Discussion
To be honest, I was unaware of any other facts other than simply the video, which I did provide. It would seem most of you know more about what is going on than I did. -
Positive Gamer No Longer Playing CoH, Very Horrible Story
Solarverse replied to Solarverse's topic in General Discussion
In all fairness, he did say that a lot of what happened was on him, I think his main issue is how people reacted to the things he has done...knowingly or unknowingly. And I agree with him. He's not perfect...nobody is. I don't think he believes otherwise. He did admit fault to his own mistakes and even understands that his logic may be flawed on some things. But that is not what it was all about. It was about how others behaved in response to the things he has done. I mean, when players are trying to find out where you live and post that information online for others to see, that puts your life at unnecessary risk. That is the kind of behavior that literally gets people killed. This is why I posted this, because people who behave in this way need to be held accountable. -
Positive Gamer No Longer Playing CoH, Very Horrible Story

Because I thought maybe...just maybe, people might be understanding and wish the guy the best, while agreeing that harassment of that level (considering if it is true) is never acceptable behavior. Clearly I was wrong. -
Positive Gamer No Longer Playing CoH, Very Horrible Story

Notice the only like you got was from me? That's because they don't care. All they cared about was somebody is quitting the game and it gives them a chance to make a smart ass comment and collect a few likes/laughing faces. I'm sure they will come back to tell me how wrong I am or something, but...I won't be convinced, it's their MO. -
Almost sounds like a bad sexual encounter than a game, lol.

If what Positive Gamer is saying here is true, I have to say, shame on the people who behaved this way. Grown adults acting like teenage kids. Absolutely ridiculous. PG, if you ever see this, hope you come back one day and play the game. Don't let other people's drama run you off, my man. Good luck to you wherever you end up.

Have you ever studied Social Psychology? When people come to the forums to complain about Knock Back, and there have been a lot over the years, they tend to catch a lot of flack from the group of forum posters who love Knock Back...that's a lot of pressure to conform to the popular opinion on the forums. They come, and then they go because the most likely feel hammered on. I have even seen some players come to the forums, hate on knock back, get hammered on, then suddenly they change their opinion. That's how social constructs work. People tend to fall in to line when they are feeling attacked for not having the same behavioral patterns as the ones attacking them, in fact, they may pretend to, or change their overall personalities to better fit those around them. So to be fair, I cannot exactly hold what people say on forums as definitive proof. The only way I will know for sure, is to conduct my experiment and record my findings and then post them in full honesty and full transparency. Now, I highly doubt it will change my opinion on Knock Back, but, what it will do is either A: Prove to me that yes, people in game hate Knock Back enough to kick me, or yell at me, or B: Convince me that I am simply wrong about how others respond to Knock Back in game, and I need to stop claiming that people catch flack for it. I have seen it done, but I am willing to admit that it is possible that it was not done as much as I am remembering it being done. So this experiment will settle that one way or the other. And to be honest, playing with Knock Back will be a whole new world for me and I am looking forward to the experience. 🙂

I don't like being wrong, but to be honest with you, in this case I hope you are right, because I think it would be a lot of fun just playing with Knock Back without a care in the world, just play to have fun and not worry about stacking mobs or playing with any real strategies, basically play the way I played when this game was released, before I was even aware of the hatred for Knock Back. So in this case, I hope you are right and I am very wrong.

If Gravity had -Knock Back built in to the Immobilize, I would include Gravity in that, I personally think that is the only thing holding that set back from being among the list you have there. Fire is decent too, due to the controlled Knock Down and Stun ability, very helpful in controlling mobs once a good tank has them stacked nice and tight. I am really enjoying some of these more challenging mobs that we are seeing with Aeon. Controllers actually feel useful again with the more difficult Task Forces we are seeing. These mobs have more staying power, which means mobs don't get obliterated before a controller can cast any real control abilities.

Not trying to start an argument or anything, would just like to point out that most people pick up whoever asks to join. It's not often that people play without Tanks or Blasters. This argument doesn't even matter to be honest with you, because regardless of how much people can't stand chaotic play styles, it won't change anything. Simply put, the game went from a game that required player cooperation in order to achieve goals and there were serious consequences to playing the game "any way you want to" to a game that doesn't punish chaotic play styles in the slightest other than pissing off your team mates. Same can be said for knock back. In the old days, knock back came with consequences, teams were likely to give you the boot for using knock back in those days, these days there simply aren't any consequences other than annoying the hell out of your team mates and getting the boot for it is pretty rare. I have come very close to logging on my secret alt account, and rolling a knock back monster Storm/Energy Defender without any KB to KD's, and joining random teams while just playing the game. Not purposely trying to annoy my team mates, but just playing the game to have fun with knock back instead of being considerate and not using KB to KD's; just to see how much hate that garners me in actual game play reality and recording the experience. Call it an experiment if you will. I am very curious how much hate that would actually get me. There are a clan of people that are very vocal on these forums about saying, "Play the way you want to, knock back is the greatest thing since sliced bread" but in game, the experience will most certainly not reflect what is being said on these forums. I am certain if I played the way I want to without any regard to other people's play styles, it will get me booted from many teams and probably yelled at and /ignored or 1 Starred. When this happens, I am sure I won't have the support of the people on these forums to fight that battle in game. The only place where the Knock Back battle is won, is on these forums. However, these forums are not a very good reflection upon the actual game. The game is like prisons; prison have their own rules to follow that have been dictated by the prisoners, regardless of the rules the warden has in place. So being patted on the back for being all for Knock Back on these forums, gives me the feeling that taking the advice of said forum posters will only get me problems in the actual game when playing with players who don't give two s**ts about the people who post forums. I have not done it yet, but I just might get the urge to do so and conduct my experiment, lol. And keep in mind, not trying to argue with you, I am just being realistic with you.

Require Two Level 50 Characters to Get XP in AE

You don't think people do that already? I mean, didn't really have a choice, it was either direct them to Steel Canyon and explain how to get there or only run with 7 players, lol. -
Require Two Level 50 Characters to Get XP in AE
Solarverse replied to Apparition's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I'm just playing the odds, really. I am willing to bet my very life that more people know how to get to Positron Task Force who has played to 50 than people who do not. I mean, there truly are tell tale signs of when somebody was PLed to 50, it's truly not hard to figure out. Even if all somebody did was paper/radio missions, there would be evidence of that. And that is about the simplest way anyone can get to 50 and achieve the smallest amount of badges. I do get where you are coming from and I pick up the point you are trying to make, I am just saying that players who don't know how to get to Posi aren't usually ignorant for the reasons you give, and people give those reasons a lot as if it excuses every instance of PL ignorance. You make a valid point and I recognize that and even consider that before judging a player for being clueless, I do try to be as logical as possible...or at least as logical as I can make possible, heh. -
Require Two Level 50 Characters to Get XP in AE
Solarverse replied to Apparition's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Considering that Positron Task Force is literally a requirement to get the most common Accolade in game and considering this guy had no badges what-so-ever that people typically get just from playing the game while clueless, told me everything I needed to know to conclude that he was a PLed 50. Tell me, what is more common, somebody like you who played for years not knowing about how to get to ITF, or somebody who was knew to the game, got PLed, and has no clue how to get to Positron? I think you are using a very rare example in order to excuse a very common problem. -
If memory serves me correctly, when the Devs gave Living Shadows a -Knock Back mechanic, I seem to recall them saying that Crushing Field (Gravity) and Chain Fences (Elec) was next on their list. Can anyone else remember the Devs saying something about this? And if so, can anyone recall what time frame (if any) was given for a roll out for this patch?

Require Two Level 50 Characters to Get XP in AE
Solarverse replied to Apparition's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Yeah? I'll bet they are less likely to ask where to go to run the Position Task Force though. Literally had a power leveled 50, ask me where he needed to go to join my team for Posi yesterday. All I could do was face palm. -
I hate that Doms can Hold a Boss with a single application, especially because they can get perma Dom. Controllers are just SoL and it takes two applications to do the same thing. Which got me to thinking, if I could hit a Boss with a Hold, then immediately hit them with Detention Field until my Hold is ready to fire off again, drop Det Field and then apply the second Hold, that basically allows me to lock down a Boss immediately rather than waiting on a Hold to recharge before doing so. However, this thinking only works if Detention Field is a Toggle and not a Click. I do not wish to make him invincible while waiting for the timer on Detention Field to end. Can anyone help with this? Never mind, figured it out. Not happy with the results, but figured it out, heh.

Require Two Level 50 Characters to Get XP in AE
Solarverse replied to Apparition's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Melodramatic, maybe. But considering that people make these missions strictly for farming and nothing else, I would say the term exploit is accurate. No reason to sugar coat what it is, it's not like the Devs give a damn anyway, so calling it what it truly is will hardly draw any negative attention to it from the Development team. That's just my opinion. -

I see this used a lot in defense of AE. However, I would give my left (enter sexual organ here) to see a chart on just how many people actually use it for the content and how many people exploit the hell out of it to Power Level. I can say this much, I have yet to see anyone in LFG chat request to build or join a team for AE story content, all I ever see is "hitters sitters blah blah blah."
