Focused Feedback: Power Changes (Release Candidates)
ScarySai replied to Arcanum's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Right, so from my initial testing, two concerns. 1: My gravity character is /storm, so this hurts it more than it likely would for other secondaries, but if my singy doesn't charge in and only hangs out at range, he actively pulls things out of my storm killzones. I can wormhole on singularity, which solves the problem altogether, but the problem with that is I mostly solo higher difficulties, so that leaves bosses behind. Wormhole also randomly decides to just not move anything at all, despite connecting. Proposed solution: Allow singy to be given commands, or reduce his CD so he can be remotely placed more often. 2: The pull-in tends to ninja pull things I'm a fair distance from, a SLIGHT reduction in range should help a bit. This might also help a bit with the first issue above. -

Stance change is awesome, about to hop on beta to try out all the new stuff. -

Gravity Control > Singularity Singularity will now slowly pull enemies towards it, allowing it to make much greater use of the Repel effect You maniacs made the strongest pet even stronger. I approve. You can't buy me off from criticizing the rune change that easily though, Powerhouse! *shakes fist* -
I personally love the changes, especially for a stalker. My only criticisms are tied to how perfect focus is for stalkers, and how unreliable it is for everyone else, as well as how wimpy the aoe feels for non-stalkers but that aside, it's now a very good performer.

I didn't say that, I said this won't stop them from being on top of the food chain. I was speaking more to speed runs and that ultra min/max kind of thing in the writing. Often, fire/fire blasters, at least one kinetic and at least one cold dom are used. No kin, but they're eating tons of reds. Whatever the intent of the change was, all it accomplishes is reducing diversity. It will not impact the meta, that was the point I was making. -

I'd like to see Full Auto get a similar treatment to Hail. If you don't touch anything it plays the 'full' animation, but you can basically cut it off whenever you want once the actual back-end activation time is over. -

Fighting only requires one power to invest in to get to tough, then you get weave - the best + defense pool power toggle. Boxing/kick aren't a waste for crosspunch builds, either. Hasten requires no investment and is by far the strongest pool in the game. Leadership has no dead powers. Every flight power is valuable if you can fit them, plus you can slot LOTG. Experimentation gets speed of sound, vial and adrenal. Sorcery requires two prereqs - one of which doesn't even work properly, cannot slot LOTG and the payoff is a nerfed t5 power. So, why exactly is it an unfair comparison? -

Well, if I have a heal power and the slots to spare, I'd sooner use the 6-set bonus for preventive on that. If I'm doing rune and have no other alternatives, yeah - it's a good place to slap the preventive proc as a mule. Though since we're talking about value, weave and tough let me slot the defense uniques and LOTG. It's not a useless power, but you're joking if you think it somehow makes Sorcery post-rune-nerf even a consideration for most people. -

Boxing/kick buff cross punch if you decide to take it. Spirit ward is slapping a bandage onto a guy who's getting mauled by a bear, at best. -

I'd like mystic flight a lot more if it took range boosts for translocation. Otherwise, i'd rather have hover/fly/afterburner/evasive maneuvers offered by the updated fly pool. -

It will need a rework if this goes through, hopefully it dies like the much more well liked eagles claw change did last beta. Though, the simple and preferred solution is to leave rune alone until said rework, not remove it and then pray for a rework. -

I'm also a big kheldian fan, the weird sets are my favorite ones. I just find it odd that things like fold space and are added and are somehow kosher, while the one power in a terrible power pool that isn't terrible has its duration cut by a third. Those arguing that this change is going to stop "squishies" from dominating are coming across as clueless, because this won't change that at all. Fire/fire blasters, kinetic corruptors and cold domination users will still be on top of the food chain, they didn't use it to begin with. -

You are seriously overestimating the power of rune. I don't really understand this contempt for the power. As has been pointed out to you already, there's a myriad of ways to avoid status effects without rune. Of the two builds I have with it, I'm more interested in the resist because the mez protection does nothing for me. Hell, if you could pull me a build that uses rune of power, I 100% promise you I could remove the power and make it just as, if not more OP than before. Again, this power isn't meta. High end blasters don't need it. It's a nice off-meta ability, nothing more. (quick edit: this isn't replying to Moka, the original post was hidden.) -

Most blasters that do this would laugh at the notion of taking rune to begin with? Rune isn't popular, I really can't stress this enough. This forum would be a firestorm right now if it was on the same level as say, hasten or CJ. You could remove the power from the game entirely and this would have no impact on the high end meta. But it would lower build diversity, one of the game's strongest selling points. -

I wouldn't call it heavy handed, it's just the truth. People are so convinced this is outrageous and needs to be nerfed, yet haven't ever used the power and don't understand the limitations of it. Meanwhile, I could just do a bunch of other OP things with the slots that would have otherwise been used to take rune. -

Yeah, I have an old min/maxed fire/time build that has it at 145s that I double checked just now. Hilariously broken? Yes. Something so outstandingly broken that it had to be reigned in? Eh, no. -
Focused Feedback: Power Changes (Release Candidates)
ScarySai replied to Arcanum's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
I actually misread that post originally, so I hid that response. It's possible, but it's not exactly an easy thing to do for a non-time character. I just find it humorous that some people think they're the arbiter of what's a deserved nerf and what's not. If I wanted to, I could make a fire/fire blaster and destroy the entire game by pressing burn with perma hasten, high resists, softcapped defenses and all the standard pool choices. But if someone has high rune of protection uptime, it's now a problem? Get real. This game isn't balanced, it never will be balanced, let people try different things. -

ScarySai replied to Arcanum's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
The other end of this argument is that rune is/was an often suboptimal choice for most builds that used it, and all that was accomplished is making it less desirable for both casuals and 'powergamers' alike. Secondly, I've yet to hear a convincing argument in favor of the rune change. Why did it have to be 'brought in line', and the others not buffed? Unrelenting is so useless that I almost mistook it for a mercenary pet.- 379 replies

The defense should exist to keep the lotg in and maybe add some cushioning on an approach, it should not be the focus of the discussion with the pool rework, and it frankly annoys me that people are so focused on that and not the sheer mobility improvements EV-MA offers. Like is this really that controversial? You can control your fliers better now, yay.

In the meantime, going to make a new post-wipe flyer to test the jump pack/double jump changes.
