Here I am not asking for specific builds, but rather principles of a good build. I've been playing with a range of Defenders (several are poison based as the more alert of you may have already spotted) but when I come to build one in Mids it seems to be... lacking: Mid-range Def that's neither here nor there, and difficult to get much Res either. So when designing a Defender, what should my optimals be to get the best out of it? I am presuming that this might vary depending on power sets chosen. Clearly play-style is also very important. Personally I like to team but have the ability to solo when required - so I might call myself a "Jack of all trades" - the Handyman build if you will.

Also JMS did have a limited run retelling that story for the 21st century which was really interesting but sadly didn't go the distance.

I think <most> patron powers and APPs have a snipe. I'm a little ambiguous about what you're meaning in snipe for the purposes of this post. There are not really any ATs that operate at range with precision, for their major powers. Even blasters and other "ranged" ATs have a significant melee/close quarters combat element. That said, as has already been expressed, many power sets have at least one set with a very long range precision shot. But even the gun sets only have one. So not really a snipe. Approaching your question from a different angle (feel free to correct me if I'm doing it wrong) it could be that you want to play some kind of military guy with a BFG - Possibly a character inspired by a one Mr F Castle perhaps, or even Wesley from Wanted? If that is the kind of vibe you seek, I'd suggest that the rifles in the game are a tad underwhelming, both beam and assault and may lead to disappointment. However all is not lost. A Soldier of Arachnos VEAT that follows his beginning path to lvl 50 (if you're unaware you're guided and advised to choose a divergent pathway in your early 20s from memory) can be an excellent "bloke with a BFG" - and frankly if you want to walk into a room and deliver a sea of orange numerals consistently that is a very fine way to go. It does give a feel that it was inspired by Samuel L Jackson's AK47 speech in Jackie Brown (an otherwise largely forgettable movie IMO.) I shall refrain from posting the transcripted words here because when I was a kid my granny would kick my arse for using bad language but I'm sure you can find a reference on Youtube or similar if you absolutely, positively, need to. That does also give you some decent long range attacks which you can enhance with Patron pools to give him/her your own flavour. Have fun experimenting

my point is that I don't want the effect to be from an aura but rather a "full bright" effect of the eye/glass/shield itself - so that the surface material appears to either glow or reflect or be backlit. In the same way that we can cover our skin in the bright fluorescent Spectrum layer on our costumes.

well so far I'm happy to invite any level to the team. I'm at level 9 right now so everyone's going to be around that. If higher, they'll exemp down, and if lower they catch up fast. P2W is fine - so long as people don't choose XP boosts - that kind of defeats the object of the exercise. To be fair, nobody's asked that question - we've just teamed up and had fun 😄

Had a great run last evening/afternoon (depending on your time zone) and we're enjoying some paper missions in Port Oakes currently. Next anticipated run is 7/2pm on Saturday so hopefully we'll see a few of you there. My current toon for this is Femalevolence (yeah, I know it looks a lot better on paper than it trips off the tongue) who is my dark/rad crupper and the central support so anything you want to bring from lvl 1 up is welcome.

I was trying to get an effect in a visor - a glow, like there's some kind of light behind a robotic mask. I was obviously unsuccessful, but given we have the Spectrum effects (which I believe are painted on layers that glow) I wonder if it would be possible to give some costume parts a similar glow/luminescence effect. I think it would definitely add to things such as eyeware, weapons, auras etc - but obviously I have no idea how achievable it would be. What I'd like to see is to be able to add a checkbox per colour with "add glow effect" etc. It might be a wish too far but would certainly add to the costume creator

No? I find the tone of this basic premise unfunny and concerning. Metaphorically feeding a woman to the sharks simply because she is somehow annoying in her efficiency and manner. Whilst I don't particularly like how she is portrayed - officious and pompous - it seems to imply that violence against women (which is a very real problem both in and out of gaming) is permissible and funny. It isn't and I wanted to make the point that this post seems to reinforce attitudes that think it's ok.

we might be overcomplexing this. We'll form a core team who can make the time and then as Snarky says there'll be others come and go. It might take a few goes to get it working but I'm sure once people know there's a thing it'll attract those who want to do more than PL in PD

ok, I'm going to say that I do not like how Dark Melee plays. Compared to Kin Melee, it seems to lack that certain something. I think it might be the fact it doesn't seem to offer that real "killing blow" whereas KM offers Burst which is a thing of beauty delivering a sea of orange numbers. I'm open to alternative suggestions to pair with Rad Armour

Snarky I was thinking along those lines myself. If we can get a good "core" team running of three or four of us I'm sure we'll get some more takers. I've known some guys run leagues doing the same content. We'll kick off tomorrow at 7pm GMT, 2pm EST in Mercy on REUNION - bring what you like and we'll take it from there.

I have characters on all servers. Mostly I've been on Excelsior recently but I do have a few on Reunion. I guess it doesn't matter because starting from "Year One" - I'm happy to start on any server but I guess given we're probably Europe biased Reunion would be a good starting point

Couldn't find an "Events & Teaming" section but I wonder if there's a mood for running through the content in a team. I would very much like to start at level 1 either Red or Gold sides and go through to 50 with a few consistent team mates. PL'ing in Pocket D is all fine and dandy but I'm up for something different. If there's any interest feel free to comment here but you need to know some things: I'm in the UK so I can't run much past midnight GMT (7pm EST, 4pm PST) I can run Tuesdays, Thursdays and weekends.
