Successful secondaries for Beast Mastery?Scarlet Shocker replied to ParaBruce's topic in Mastermind I'd forgotten that it was a Henchman it affected - I did have a Thugs/Poison back on live around 2008/9 but I didn't play it much once I got it to 50. But thanks for the reminder. But that doesn't necessarily mean I need to rethink. I can cast it on a pet and make them defensive and follow me close - so they will be affecting the foes I want (in theory at least.) Beast Rad (I played mine on an MSR last night for the first time in years) is very strong but it does require a bit of coordination - but potent when it works what with all the debuffs and rending of teeth and claws etc

Successful secondaries for Beast Mastery?Scarlet Shocker replied to ParaBruce's topic in Mastermind I've only ever tried two MM sets to 50, 2 x Beasts and 1 x Demons. Of the two I think I actually enjoy Beasts more and I've had success with /Thermal and /Radiation - but Rad gets a bit complex. I'm actually seriously toying with a Beasts/Poison - given that Beasts is primarly a melee set that needs to be up close and personal so VG should come into its own if you're standing in the middle of a mob and spamming poisons - it also has a small heal and mez defence too. But conversely I'm also thinking Beasts/TA might be a great combo - I'm having a lot of fun on a Sonic/TA defender and it would seem you could blind the mobs then sic your pets on them while debuffing the fuck out of them as they get ripped to shreds. I've no experience of nature and I've never tried Time on an MM but I tend not to enjoy /time much on anything I have played. But what of a Beast/Storm? That could be a ton of fun just because of the chaos it brings.

interesting response @kito thanks. I believe the story morphed from the Bowmen to this Angel that appeared on the battlefield with an army of archers (referencing Agincourt in the process) to save the BEF from certain defeat (and thus prolong the "Great War") A question has occurred - is it possible to turn Illusion Pets into longbow lookalikes? That would fit nicely into the lore of the story and Paragon. Longbow and Agincourt and the colours are very English in culture - the Cross of St George, and let's face it Longbow seem to mostly be a bunch of high powered soccer hooligans most of the time. So it would be good to bring them to battle with "Cry God for Harry, England and St George" (not sure Meghan would be too chuffed tho but that's another story) I'm not a huge fan of Illusion as a controller set and I've played a LOT of trollers in my time - I find the claims made for it are no necessarily superior to other troller primaries and it seems to require a good deal more management than other sets. But giving it a different look and feel might mitigate that. I kinda like your idea of Time, but again I'm not a fan of time, as a power set. A sentinel deffo won't work. There's no real secondary I see that fits with the concept and I am also leaning far more towards /TA than Archery I think this is one reason I find it hard to fit the concept to the game. Hence this board 😄

What's the smallest change to CoX that you really want?Scarlet Shocker replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion there are many PCs and computers in the game - it might be nice to see the CRT screens replaced with flat ones CRTs are a bit... past it. It jars a bit seeing them

What do you consider the worst power combos?Scarlet Shocker replied to shadowrex's topic in General Discussion Dark/Poison trollers are VERY powerful. I built one on live the day they dropped - from memory Dark was released and Poison ported in the same patch and we were given a DXP weekend - I raced to the 40s that weekend and made it to 50 very soon after. I then got a stock IO build (no procs, nothing expensive mostly just basic crafted IOs) and ventured into RV, and got griefed by a pair of "pro-PVPers" who were shocked that although they beat me eventually had to work really hard to take me down and suffered some significant loss of face in the process. I don't know why you'd have an issue wtih it but I'd be glad to offer what advice I could.

Are we likely to see taunt get fixed in the near future?Scarlet Shocker replied to Meknomancer's topic in General Discussion I don't really understand the central premise of the OP's post. He said taunt got broken without providing any evidence or even specifying what is actually wrong with taunt. I'm new to tanks but I seem able to grab aggro ad maintain it. I don't have an issue unless the mob is exceptionally big or I move around too fast, which I think is pretty well as it should be. The idea that a tank could taunt a room, or worse still an entire map and let the rest of the team wail on the mobs was pretty borked in itself. I'm able to get the mob I'm interested in to want to slap me down (sometimes they even manage it) and let my team follow on and sort them out. I was once asked by a brute on a Lambda to stop taunting because he was keeping the Avi occupied and my taunt was preventing that. I'm suggesting there's no significant issue with taunt currently.

Given the number of NPCs who suffer from excess wind... Ice Mistral Scirocco Borea Levantera and probably a few more. It would be very surprising if there wasn't some more windiness on the way

It seems likely that many students would study at Paragon University, or the Rogue Isles - given that they cater to meta humans and it would be a great starting place as someone with nascent or newly discovered powers. Research institutes would provide technologies to meta humans too. That in itself brings in tourists - look at any major university town. Meta-tourism would almost certainly be a thing - in the same way that people like to get off the beaten track and go look at other stuff. Remember there was a bit of a fad of poverty tourism too so it seems likely that there'd be cruises around the Rogue Isles (and a few related hijackings of cruise liners and similar piracy.) There's a story arc right there - it seems that Arachnos would enjoy the revenue tourists bring so might take a dim view of cruise ships being frightened off by ne'er do wells.

Thanks. In its day it was perhaps as popular as the Orson Welles version of War of the Worlds - people genuinely believed in the Angel in a kind of Arthurian resurrectionist way. I had thought of Illusion but... I'm gonna say it... I'm not so fond of Illusion as a set. I have a Mercs/TA which in the mid-30s is distinctly underwhelming - which does give the whole "army thing" and I must admit I'd not taken into account the fact you can make your pets appear different in Illusion these days. That might make it different. Flight is definitely one of the pools. Her costume is winged - it kind of had to be I guess - and winged creatures running on the ground seems to be a bit silly.

If you're familiar with the legend of the Angel of Mons, you might already know where I'm going with this. If you're not and are interested, there's some further reading is available at the links below. As a brief historical context, the retreat from Mons was a humiliation for the BEF, but it also prevented Germany from conquering France very quickly and thus ending WWI before it had started. Chances are the world order would have been very different had that occurred. But I'm not here to talk counter-factual history. I'm here to talk about the concept of the Angel of Mons in the context of our beloved game. I've rolled her on live, on Score and here but I've never quite gotten down something that truly satisfies so she's languished in various iterations - including a Mercs MM/TA Obviously some form of arrow is essential and I see her more as a support character than an aggressive front line toon - her legend is one of helping the troops of the BEF survive, and get out of there rather than taking the fight to the enemy. And of course the longbow as a weapon of war is central to the English British mythos - Crecy and Agincourt (no not that camp in the Rogue Isles) Henry V and all that - the Longbow is an icon of British history. There's been some chat about TA defenders that persuaded me to revive her - and I'm wanting your input and suggestions to see what you come up with. I'm pretty sure TA is the main part of her armoury, the real question is what is the rest? I already have a Plant/TA troller and I'm working on a Sonic/TA Defender so those are out and on live I had a cool Fire/TA troller so I probably don't want to revisit any of those, applying the rule of "been there, done that" to this scenario. Over to you, good people. Further reading: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angels_of_Mons http://www.eastoftheweb.com/short-stories/UBooks/Bowm849.shtml

Latest Trick Arrow creation - Trick Arrow/Beam RifleScarlet Shocker replied to KaizenSoze's topic in Defender I read elsewhere that with the right combination of powers & procs Flash Arrow gives you near stalker levels of invis. I think (working from memory) that Flash Arrow, Stealth (PP) and a Stealth proc make you all but undetectable in the right situation. I don't fully comprehend how stealth works but I do think it offers some amazing mitigation

Latest Trick Arrow creation - Trick Arrow/Beam RifleScarlet Shocker replied to KaizenSoze's topic in Defender I have a Defender, Voice of Scythia - TA/Sonic that I just rolled. Got on a high level team at level 8 and felt like I was still pulling my weight when exemped down and only a couple of powers. Was a lot of fun and quite survivable if I don't aggro mobs

Are there any server(s) that are more child friendly?Scarlet Shocker replied to okpokalypse's topic in General Discussion This game is fundamentally 16+ (I got that from War Witch verbatim in 2008) I appreciate there is a lot in this that appeals to younger people but there is some young adult stuff present in the game. The community reflect that, as you might expect. Personally I would be very unhappy to see this game moderated to accommodate younger participants. I know it has always happened but I think it's down to individual parents to be in charge of safeguarding for their own offspring until they are of age.
