  1. I don't think I misunderstood you. I'm fine with you playing the game you want but I just fund your position somewhat silly. Its analogous to saying "please make all MM non-pet powers stronger because my petless MM sucks but I want to play it anyhow." SoM is a bonus power designed to help you survive lower levels - to ask for it to be slotted is to make it far more powerful than intended and would inevitably create huge balance problems. If you use it, fine, but to expect it to be improvable is nonsensical.
  2. Hardly elitist. If you have to build your character specifically to accommodate a free power, then you've probably missed out on other things your build could use more effectively. Your tanks have the attacks. They worked before SoM was introduced, and work now without it. If you want to do it that way, go ahead but it's probably less efficient and ultimately harms your build.
  3. Here's one I've done for my own character, Sea Sore (the clue's in the name) It probably needs some refinement but I have high expectations of this character: Villain Plan by Mids' Reborn : Hero Designer 2.6.0.7 https://github.com/ImaginaryDevelopment/imaginary-hero-designer Click this DataLink to open the build! 4. damn I missed this, wish it had been stickied
  5. Then you are using it incorrectly.
  6. Rad/Ninjitsu Scrapper Many thanks for your help good people. Let's see how she does.
  7. some great suggestions here, thanks all. I'm liking them a lot. There's one slight snag in that I already have a DP toon, who goes by the name of Reservoir Frog - you can kind of guess what he looks like from the description, but I remember enjoying my WM/SR brute, Kwiturbitchin on live, so I'm thinking SR or Ninjutsu (which I know nothing about) could be good. I'm actually thinking I might have to bite the bullet (pun intended) and choose a melee toon. I've never had a level 50 scrapper so perhaps this might be appropriate. So if I say /Ninjutsu, what do you all suggest?
  8. This is the inverse of "Name that Toon" (if you didn't already guess that... ) So I've got a couple of concept names I really enjoy, but realising them in game has often been... challenging. I've mentioned in other boards here my challenges to find a good fit for the Angel of Mons, a legendary character based on a short story "The Bowmen" by Arthur Machin, for example. She's actually doing ok as a Mercs/TA which despite many protestations to the contrary from some of you I'm finding to be a lot of fun. Now I'm struggling with a new concept. The name is (IMO, and has been previously commented on in the past) rather good - doubly so if like me you are of a certain age - but I've never felt the name belonged to a character very well so this needs a solid reroll. So before we get to the name, here are some ground rules: I very rarely ever play melee characters, I'm just not keen on them, although when playing blasters I'm an inveterate blapper. I've typically played Controllers, Blasters and now here I am developing a taste for Masterminds. Make of that what you will. I'm also not one for playing at the toughest settings, so though I love trying to solo-all-the-things I'm not one to do it at +4x8 but I do enjoy setting tough challenges and taking it on with a buddy or two. I can't seem to get on with Widows either and frankly that concept just doesn't fit in my mind. So, your suggestions please but rather than just giving an AT (and Origin which I feel is important here) I'd love to know your reasoning. I might even give a small, trivial and/or annoying prize for the best suggestion. Thanks for reading 🙂
  9. The only reason I can see to reroll is if the character doesn't fit the sets, be they bad or good. I've never rerolled a character that did fit its powers though I have deleted them at 50, though that was largely as a space saving option back in the day.
  10. Ok I was late to the party there... but we've known since Live that there were plenty of other pool powers "in the wings" and we got Sorcery before shutdown... so clearly the bones are there. I know other servers have implemented them with varying degrees of success, so they are extant, but I understand the reasons for not making things available immediately just because.
  11. Interesting build. Have you overslotted Hasten?
  12. I was misinformed it seemed. Stealth - indeed invis - is ok. It's powers that make you immune to combat that cause MMs problems. I did ask the question here I think and it was resolved but my search fu is not strong and I can't link you to it sadly. But yeah, ignore that statement 🙂
  13. Back on live I had Hunstman Strauss, and when I got to respec I eschewed the paths and continued with his "bloke with bullets" philosophy. Aside from anything else I hate the look of the crab backpack and mace seems pretty feeble as a weapon set and he has proven to be really tough, effective at taking down even tough enemies such as bosses, EBs and occasionally AVs and his pets add great mayhem and a sea of orange numbers. I also have a dark/poison controller that turned out to be truly excellent, especially in PvP but currently having a load of fun with my Demons/Cold MM which has buckets of survive and reasonable damage output. She's slightly limited to the level of AV she can solo but she can eat a pylon with one arm behind her back which I personally think is a good enough achievement.
  14. The answer is obvious, Napoleon was the original, Han was a cheap knock off 😄 to answer the OP's comment, it might have different meanings. I've soloed a few TFs notably the ITF a couple of times on different characters and I've had a few goes at the Lady Grey which I much prefer, but the reduced Hami is a significant pain due to a lack of holds. If he's asking for one character to "solo all the things" I'm not completely sure it's possible but Titan/Bio might be one of the best current options. For content at greater range, my Huntsman spider is one of the must durable and creates a sea of numbers, while his pets give him significant boosts (but needs a lot of temps)
  15. Despite having had a love of superhero comics for 50 years now, having first read British reprints of Marvel comics back in 1970, I've never felt the need to pull my inspiration from the MCU or any other source. I guess having a reasonably fertile and creative imagination I've always managed to enjoy my own characters without pulling them from other sources. I will admit I've dabbled with "tributes" (aping looks and powers of comic characters) but honestly they never last long. I find that with my own creation I can invest my own back story and emotions inthem which I simply can't with somebody else's character
  16. That'll kill some time! 🙂
  17. but then I found this thread: which is outstanding and now I want to restart and work through the entire arc(s) doing everything and winning all the badges etc. I suspect this will be a great RP opportnity - "something's going on and we're the ones to get to the bottom of it" kind of thing, so we can (hopefully) leave Praetoria knowing all the arcs and stories, and also being very well rounded characters, which gives us an opportunity to take on the forces in Paragon and the Isles with an excellent understanding of what they're about and our own capabilities. It would also give us carte blanche to sideswitch to see "what the other side is doing" at any given time so we might make slow progress but we'll have a fun story to tell.
  18. We moved to Everlasting just now but we're only very low level. I'd be very happy to team if you wanted to though it'd probably be measured by when we can meet. Feel free to DM me if you're more comfortable with that
  19. This is entirely doable now I think. There's a few options you could have within the set such as the simple shiv stab to the karambit and of course the deadly commando blade between the ribs (used to deadly effect by British and US special forces in WWII ( reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairbairn–Sykes_fighting_knife ) This set would encourage me to play a vicious Stalker, an AT I've never gotten to grips with.
  20. This suggestion is rubbish! (sorry, but someone had to! 😄 )
  21. One of the things I could do on CO which was a lot of fun was rifle and sword... starting from range and moving to melee in a very deadly fashion. I really enjoyed that concept a lot, as a kind of "dragoon" type fighter. I also like the idea of "wire control" - using wire to entangle and restrict enemies, see Haywire from Mark Grunewald's classic Squadron Supreme (which IMNSHO remains an unsung classic of the genre and one of the singularly most influential stories ever told in comics) What we don't really have in this game is the "Man in the Chair" - the mastermind/Great Scientist who uses their powers to influence events away from the battlefield - I'm thinking here of characters such as Professor X, The Leader & Puppeteer, Professor Broom, Alfred/Jarvis, even Reed Richards. Even in comicdom these guys were often flung into the thick of it because of the limitations of the mediium but I like the idea of the ultimate remote "Battlemaster" who is controlling things from a distance. Difficult to do in this game but possible. Tentacles - we have a great mechanic in game that is underused. It's most famously Lusca, but also Vines in Plant Control and even in some Dark powers but it could become an entire set of wiggly grasping things that hold, immob, debuff, damage and even eat (we've got the mouths of Mot now) enemies. Combining that with a few Leviathan powers we'd have an amazing and fun set. Or 4.
  22. I'd agree with this but add that one reason I build my own boxes is twofold: I know what's in them but I also manage to completely avoid the "added value" that many manufacturers put into stuff. In my book, added value is something that works for them, not the consumer.
  23. This is true, and I went through a phase of building two a year, usually each build being roughly 6 months behind bleeding edge. I saved boatloads over time and I would normally be able to sell my older rig for only a little less than I paid for it. BUT... that presupposes that your'e capable of doing so and while it's not brain science, it does take some learning and confidence and usually knowing how to get to your components to talk to one another. So for the novice it's probably a non-starter. In the UK, we regularly have computer fairs, where traders hawk their wares and there are usually several PC vendors who will sell you the parts you want and even build the rig on site live to your spec - my gaming rig is such a machine and runs every game I want. For my day to day machine I use my older rig which runs Fedora linux and if I need to work remotely a chrome book. Pay your money, take your choice.
  24. not to mention the sharks with laserbeam eyes 🤣 We actually have a proto-team nucleus in Praetoria going now and are likely to continue over the coming days. Anyone interested is more than welcome to join us. We're just realising that there's something not right in Praetoria, and it might be interesting to scratch the shiny veneer and see what's underneath... but with that, there's a risk. Have you tried not drinking Enriche for even just a day? If you want to take part, drop a message here or ping me in game, my global is @Riff
