Finding ANYTHING to do when RAGE crashes. Yes. THat works great until you are trying to badge, I don't know, ANY incarnate Trial. So you can make a decent (if manic depressive) SS build using pool powers and P2W that will 'get you through' regular content. It will not be a tight strong build, but okay. If your concept allows for fits of sugar crash depression. As soon as the League leader says "Burn the final 2%" and you are on RAGE crash you feel like .....pretty not Super.

Here is my SS/Invul Brute I ran as a main when I first got back to Homecoming. An homage to all my early SS years in CoV. Thanks to Hyperstrike for the build. I still have this thing built up in the 1000 toon garage. fully incarnated accoladed and never played. I just have no use for a character that cant do damage with a League captain says "All go NOW" You use Punch Haymaker KO Blow and Footstomp. When you get Rech nerfed you throw in Kick. Hurl sucks and is only to take out surgeons and flyers. The animation is stupid long. 4 of those SS 50s are mine. You can deduct mine out I will delete them if it gets the Devs to change SS>
-
Did you even read my global name? My only real hope is that Statler and Waldorf become co-presidents for life of the New American Union. Sadly, that is not much hope.
-
Hmmm. Increasing the Damage. Not Increasing the Damage Scalar.. You see the difference? I can explain in detail if needed.
-
I appreciate the thought. I honestly do. On my Blasters here is the dynamic. AoE AoE AoE repeat until mobs are gone. Boss/AV ST for a minute. continue for X minutes until blob melts. pumping AoE with ST attacks is not necessarily helping. Although anything at this point is an add. Disclaimer: I run ZERO "gimmick" combo powersets. To me they are about as useful as having a tail in RL. Most of that flavor is completelyuseless against true hard targets. The closest I came was running a Invul/Kinetic Tank. My "Tank Mage" Danged thing actually worked moderately well at short/medium range. But, in the end, gimmicky and not as useful as other Tanks at the job. to me. The mechanic was hard to milk for anything meaningful. And since riding the mechanic became the job instead of getting the objective accomplished it is just in the way.

This thread. Maddening. The fact that the Dev Team had a mostly complete fix to this (heavily edited adjectives here) problem and killed the idea due to nerd rage is your clue. Any hope we had for a fix to an iconic Super Hero powerset died that day. Get out a coffin, dig a deep hole, drop it in. Cover. Walk away.

Also it is a decent set. I have a 50 SS/Invul i ran for months on Homecoming. It is not shattered. I do not play it. I have no plans to play it My alt account i use to AE PL my alts is a SS/Fire. I seriously hate that i did that. I should have made it Rad/Fire. The delay every two minutes in farming is stupid. Sets up cascading issues of when to hit buffs and use inspirations. Like driving with a device in the passenger seat you have to fill with fluid every two minutes. Like hey, trying to drive here. Oh wait let me pour crap in this tube here
-
and probably a wise one. But now how do you unscrew that pooch? Because increasing the damage scalar does crap for the AT. Basically the ST attacks they have create an anemic DPS chain and the AoE, equally anemic, also suffers from small target caps. Even I am not advocating for increasing target caps. So basically the AT is now hardcoded into unfixability. Wise to not overpower them from the start. Bone headed stupid to not build in an easy way to scale them up if that was the intention. I do not believe most of the people designing these things are bone headed stupid. So either 1) They never intended them o be more than a semi gimped low performance option 2) somebody made an executive decision to choose really crappy powers to slam onto these things and that was the only way they would let the project go forward.
-
I do not use ignore. I remember in live when AE farms started. I dislike farming. But i have gotten quite a few free rides. I may be on your list. I finally set up an alt account with a farmer to PL myself. Even with two comps up this feels awkward. But it is fast the only people i do not want to team with are those that run +4 posi 1 and +4 Kahn. If tou need that kind of abuse it is hilarious. But leave me out if your sick lifestyle

i get it. people like the things. people like classic VW bugs too. and they work. but that is some old tech. I am getting hooked on a Dark/Dark/Dark Corruptor. Not as much Damage (not near) as my Dark/Dark/Soul Blaster. But it is where the character needs to be. But a Corruptor does have good damage, and a Dark^3 brings to hit debuffs and soft controls that are quite serious. However you want to look at it a Sentinel does not get a "fair shake" in the game. Their armor and lack of serious buff / debuff / control, role as a damage dealer indicates they should be on a parity with Scrappers for damage. Higher than Brutes. Fold it back some if you want to argue they are ranged and easier than Scrappers. Less than Brutes then. These things do less damage than Defenders. I am not talking about scalars. i am talking attack chains and actual DPS. They put out ....not a lot. This is not fair to the players who run these characters. it is not fair to the Teams and Leagues that carry these characters. I already know the comments that will fly about we carry everyone, you do not know what a team or league will be. But the Devs know this thing is hot garbage and people are going to run it. That is on them for sticking it to the entire player base, with the Sentinel players taking the hardest hit.
-
I went looking through my back pages of 50s I have shattered. two Sentinels, An Ice Blast and a Dark Blast. I am looking back there for a Incarnate to take on a Really Hard Way Magisterium attempt. Guess what AT I am NOT going to bring to the League? Go ahead. Guess.

I was the OP on this thread. I started it off by complimenting the vigorous, detailed, and well presented information in the Sentinel forums. When I rediscovered HC I created many many Sentinels. No, i did not 50 one. Does garbage get better with time? usually not. I can easily out damage any Sentinel on a Brute. I can easily out survive any Sentinel on a Brute. Did you need some type of documented DPS side by side comparison for this? Maybe we can get Arcana to come down and show you tick by tick how much these things are out damaged by everybody else. I'm not going to waste much time on it. Sentinel bring NOTHING to the board but damage. They do no significant controls, debuffs, or buffs. Unless you need that broken down with scalars and stuff as well. Which i really hope you can find someone that offers that service. As far as starting them too far down and buffing them up. You have this all penciled out for the 2030s and we should not start threads about it prematurely? Because it does not seem like anyone is in a mad rush to gradually do anything with these things.
-
I was not talking damage scalar, although cranking that across the board might be a good start. Compare an Energy Blaster (random pick, do it with any powersets) ST damage chain Blaster vs Sentinel. Tell me again a 6% damage increase will fix it. Oh? What? What did you say? I did offer a simple solution for fixing Sentinel Inherent. A metric Crapton of Mez protection. This is why it would be important to leave the AoE caps alone in Sentinels. By increasing their damage to the neighborhood of Blasters (which 6% will not do. Not sure why you believe that it would. Like watching a 90 year old try to merge onto a freeway) you run the danger of creating the AT that everyone switches to. By leaving the AoE caps hobbled you leave the AT as undesirable by true power gamers. They can out damage with a Brute or Blaster still to Farm or do TFs. But it would give the Armored Ranged Crew an AT worth investing in. (at 50 as well as at 1-49)

i both love and hate the nerf to afterburner. i love afterburner but can rarely squeeze it on my builds. so i get a ghetto version for free that is just enough to get between missions on non shadow shard tfs. i am out of the Rage convo for a while. 10 sec crash.
-
do not allow double rage. the rage buff is powerful because the damage is trash without it. the set is balanced around that boost. so comparing apples to buicks is fun, but not as helpful as you might think.
-
actually i have never advocating removing the crash without rebalancing the power set. but thank you for simplifying things. also you conveniently ignore the boost is that powerful due to the sub par smashing damage of the set. but hey, being obtuse isn't just for crazy people anymore.

Yomo's Whizbang Potpourri Extravaganza of a Giveaway!
Snarky replied to Yomo Kimyata's topic in General Discussion
Thank you for supporting the community Yomo. It has been fun watching this. It is a reminder of how as a community we band together in big and little ways that other MMORPGs (usually) miss the boat on completely. Because once you come to the City part of you will always be here. the Vahzilok are out to make sure of that! -
Incarnating my Dark^3. Very happy with this. The more I play the more I like. I am torn between Assault Core, Control Radial, and Support Radial. If I play a long time I will probably end up with all 3. Flexibility is nice. What are the pros/cons of each? Is any just garbage? What should be my first priority? Thanks
-
to be clear, with great wherewithal, henceforth, and forevermor, in this year of our Lord Recluse I have stated these incontrovertible facts: 1) Super Strength is not the best damage dealing set for Tanks or Brutes. It may be near the top. But it is not standing over anyone. 1b) check powergamer builds. SS is not the go to. 2) The crash is a Homey Clown "bonk on the Head" every 2 minutes just for playing the set. 2b) NO OTHER SET IN THE GAME PUTS THE GAMER IN A TIME OUT EVERY TWO MINUTES JUST TO KEEP PLAYING 3) This whole "What do we do about it?" conversation is now in it's second decade. 3b) If this was not such an iconic comic book power set I would have moved on years ago. 3c) How could you screw this up? Seriously? Then stand behind some cottage rule like the CEOs coked out son "This is how we do business here. this is good. why do you have a problem with it?" Guess what? I would put real money that most of those people screaming how bad the changes were on the test server? You give them an alternate power set where they have to level enhance accolade and incarnate the new SS toon? 95% will do all the work just to play the new SS and avoid the rage crash. Even though they whined like an engine with no oil about how horrid it was. Because everybody hates the crash.
-
so the fix is even easier. make it a different power set. i will gladly level more 50s
-
The Sentinel forum is one of the best organized in the game. Tons of well documented research on each power set. It takes quite a bit to impress me. They did that. spoiler alert so..... The Archetype is a horrid option to take. The inherent does not do much at best. Oh, and the entire Archetype does the flat out absolute worst damage in the game. Like it was designed to do that. If it was designed to be a completely neutered kindergarten class then congratulations. If it was designed to be an Archetype that could proudly stand next to so many great choices,.....danged. Sorry. Sucks to be on that Dev team. Epic fail. Laughable. Cryable? oh. Laughably easy fix. Bring all damage to around 90% Blaster damage on the attacks. Leave Target caps nerfed. No idea what to do with the inherent. Whatever they were trying for...it went over like a lead balloon. Something simple on the AT mechanic maybe? Like serious Mez protection free? By upping the damage to near Blaster but leaving the caps you will not have the AT the 1st choice of powergamers. That is all you need. Just dodge that bullet by being sub optimal. By changing the inherent to the ability to stand and deliver No matter what you get to the core of the Sentinel design

It has been said a thousand times. And said again just a few posts above. No other power set leaves you debilitated on a regular basis just to have parity with everyone else meet in the middle? How about an equal place at the table?
-
I NEVER double stack Rage. I still hate the entire mechanic. Why would i want two crashes? I absolutely despise one. The amount of power is not the issue. It is the concept crushing crashes. Do you see Luke Cage falling over every two minutes in combat grasping for breath? The Thing? Colossus? The Hulk? Superman? The Tick? Mr Incredible, old and fat, never stopped to pant. Name one Super Strength character that has to pause every couple minutes to swoon like a victorian era lady with her corset too tight
-
The Rage Crash thing was brought to us by people who were not great at game design Any changes made now have to get past nerd rage barrier 4000 We are screwed here. I will never get a Mr Incredible, The Tick or Colussus type Super Strength character I have a high veteran level SS/Invul Brute. His backstory is that he was a bodybuilder then got onto Steroids, HGH, then Superadine then Excelsior. Then he got into some really heavy stuff, almost died, and was “fixed” by some crazy mad scientist. He still goes through manic depressive cycles. Hence the super focus strength followed by the complete crash there are only so many variations of that story to tell. It is more accurate than a Hulk clone in describing the powers yet just being Super Strong somehow eludes this game because the original designers had absolutely no imagination
