New Shield Defense costume piece: Invisishield

Recommended Posts

How about a sweet new Shield skin for costumes that require something... less obtrusive:

  1. The "no shield".  Just nothing, for power armor concepts.
  2. The force field - a bubble that can be color-tinted.
    1. Or an Aura, like the cyborg visor thing that pops down in combat.
  3. Bracers of Defense, for recovering D&D people. You know who you are. Or an Amulet of Protection.
  4. Or that cool pop-out-rotating Vanguard shield, but it stays tiny.

No actual changes to Shield Defense, just some sort of "no FX" version of the power.

How about just flat out "Invisible Weapons" in general?

Yeah, it might look dumb for someone to swing an invisible Broadsword, sometimes, but Warmace could make a pretty interesting 'Superstrength Alternative" with big uppercuts and a whirling-strike and stuff.

Just make, like, an "Inside the fist" weapon model that scales to be smaller than the player's fist based on the player's height.

On that note, even if it may look dumb allowing you to hold weapons in non-weapon sets would also be lit.

Casting fireball through a sword? Yes pls

Would require whole new animations unless you want to palm the sword glued to your open hand at enemies and fire the fireball from the hilt.

There are Vanguard NPCs that have animations for casting spells from a staff. We also have the Blackwand animation that could be used as a base, with a different weapon prop attached.

Sure, but that's two animations. The wave at enemy and the hold above head.

You kind of need more than that to have a decent variety for a powerset. Even for something like an Assault Set, where you're using the staff for ranged and melee, you'd probably want at least 2 more "Ranged Wand" animations.

I think it would be better to have a set with two animations, than to have no set because we don't have a third or fourth animation. Variety can come in the type of thing fired from the wand. I always thought an "Evocation Blast" or "Sorcerous Blast" primary would've been neat, with a wand weapon model and spells of different elements, that gain extra effects based on making elemental combos against the same target.

... what about Whirling hands with the staff? Do the big Spinnydo and slam the staff against the ground to create a shockwave?

Or co-opt things like Shatter from War Mace which already creates a ground-level animation between you and your target?

I'd also like an "all energy" option, like we see for some sword models.  It'd also be great if we could have  a "classic invisible" version, where you just kind of see the faint outline of the object, like how Space Ghost or Wonder Woman's jet was frequently portrayed.

Already in the game, they just need to remove the n (dev only) restriction. Go under "none" with the chosen weapon in Icon. You can also see how animations for any set play out while holding whatever object.

This would also solve people's hatred of the crab backpack.
