Nafsmar Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Hello I generally solo but for team fun I like to run the SBB. It is rather quick and comes with a very nice reward at the end. I have used blasters and scrappers to much success but have a concept for a Controllery type hero(basically a hero on a power trip). I made it a scrapper but I figure being a controller will let me be more RPish. I have checked all the controller combos and want to know what would be some suggestions for good controllers knowing that it caps at 29. Thank you for the advice in advance.
Doomguide2005 Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Okay the 7 year gap has me scratching my head ... SBB?
Coyote Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Summer Block Buster. Capping at 29 still allows you to get your entire primary, so it's just a question of avoiding a secondary that gets major powers late, like Kinetics, Storm, and Cold. 1
Uun Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 I would say gravity or illusion paired with poison or radiation. (I'm actually leveling an illusion/poison, but haven't tried SBB yet.) Uuniverse
Nafsmar Posted March 25, 2020 Author Posted March 25, 2020 Yeah I figured Radiation would be a choice. I am also liking Gravity as I love the whole Propel aspect of plucking something outta thin air and throwing it. The whole illusion thing doesn't work well for me as I'd rather go MM if I wanted a lot of pets. So Grav/Rad is what I am gonna roll. My theme character is a construction worker pre powers so I can write a bio around that. Ty
Zeraphia Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 I'm confused as to why you need a Controller specialized around the SBB, from when I've done it, with random PUGs, we've gotten all of the badges in one run without particularly trying sans the one where you kill Frank and Killer at around the same time. I'm not saying Controller would be a bad choice, but it seems like a rather odd hyper-specific pick. I don't think you need to create just one specific toon to complete it or the specialties in it, I think really any AT you want to roll in there is just fine. Is there something in this question I'm missing?
Nafsmar Posted March 26, 2020 Author Posted March 26, 2020 20 hours ago, Zeraphia said: Is there something in this question I'm missing? Absolutely. As I stated I like to do SBBs for my teaming as it is quick, fun and gives an IO that markets for 10-15M everytime. In addition I am creating a theme character that has a controlling type of personality. Hence the controller AT. BTW I decided to go Earth/Rad because I have a great Bio planned.
Nafsmar Posted March 28, 2020 Author Posted March 28, 2020 Don't know if anyone reads this anymore but after going over builds in Mids I decided that Elec/Rad was what I was gonna roll for this themed character. However while playing in AP this morning I saw the GMs say that electric affinity may be active by next week and decided to wait to check it out first.
WunderBex Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 I just ran a few SBBs back to back with my most recent controller, plant/poison. I have to admit, I was impressed! The debuffs for Poison are not toggles but clicks, and this made it very customizable. Plant with carrion Creepers, Strangler, Roots, Paralytic Toxin (FABULOUS hold that never ceased to freeze the AVs) and of course the toughest little Fly Trap ever as a pet, made short and amazing work of the Casino baddies. Let me put in perspective: we had my troller, 2 defs and one blaster for SBB. The blaster fell off, leaving just us squishies to fight. The defs were rad/ and time/. The biggest damage came from my pet and carrion creepers. Confuse made the Rikti Monkeys and ninjas very easy. It DID take us a while to finish, since the blaster dropped before the 2 final end bosses in the Casino Heist, which left us all of the Arena to do without real damage, but we did so much better than expected! A few faceplants, yes, but less than I usually get running with 'bigger guns' like brutes and scrappers. The debuffs were fantastic and kept us safe and we did eventually whittle them all down and get the badges. Now I don't suggest having a 3 person team without damage, but it's doable and fairly safe and feels just EPIC when you finally finish! I am a big fan of plant/poison now, two sets I never played on Live. I think I was missing out! I also understand many might think that rad did all the work (and I HUGELY like rad), but I have run my little girl without others too, and Poison is a great set. I really like the way it plays, while plant does some decent damage and wonderful control.
Nafsmar Posted April 2, 2020 Author Posted April 2, 2020 That definitely sounds like fun. I have seen Plant/Nature in action before and it does look rather cool. After I do the Ela/Ela I will roll up a plant/nature and if I really like it I will continue to 50 with it. I haven't had much time to play lately so I am behind a bit (playwise).
MaHaBone Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 I have a Illusion/Poison, built for and leveled almost exclusively on SBBs. The flow of SBB fits PERFECTLY with her powers. Spectral terror for the minion mobs, PA up for every AV. Massive debuffs, even a heal and a rez. 1
Nafsmar Posted May 20, 2020 Author Posted May 20, 2020 I never got around to making the Elec/Elec controller but I did make an Ill(I know what I said)/rad one. I have to say it just decimates the SBB. The heal is barely needed and the Avs just stand around and die. I like it so much that I am using it for regular content now. Funny how that goes! I am currently 39 and doing tip missions with him. I also rolled a plant/cold that I enjoy in the SBB as well though not like the Ill/rad one. Infrigidate procced out does some good damage. All in all I have 7 current heroes suited for the SBB with more on the way. Hey what can I say I enjoy it.
VV Posted May 22, 2020 Posted May 22, 2020 SBB is fun. I take my Grav/Storm there all the time and just roll over stuff. Been in a few times with an all Plant/ team of troller/doms, and it is just, I mean, everything just melts without even noticing. 1
Tater Todd Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 I think Dark Control works well...even better a Dark/Dark Controller. Dark has a ST confuse that can be spammed and two Tanky specters that follow you around and punch stuff. Shadow Field is pretty much Volcanic Gasses but with -To Hit and then there's Heart of Darkness that can be turned into a proc bomb as well a pbaoe stun. Dark Miasma is just amazing and the controller version takes it to another level. I would also like to put in a vote for Traps.
