hakurr
I am running a Electric Armor / Spines Tanker and trying to figure out would ATO's be best in Lightening Field & Quills or in normal attacks? or would it be better to proc out Lightening field and Quills? Caulderone
The proc rate in toggles like LF and Quills is pretty low, combined with only being able to proc once per 10 seconds. Quoting Sovera from a recent thread using Superior Might of the Tanker. On 3/26/2020 at 12:11 PM, Sovera said: Alright, I went to test this and you were spot on. Against a single target a mix of PPM and the damage aura missing a tick and the 10 second rule from toggles meant that I spent periods of time with no stacks even. At all. And only very briefly did I get three stacks. Surprisingly jumping into a bunch of enemies did not improve things. Even staying in the middle of a group of enemies in the AE I never once got three stacks o_o I stayed solid at two stacks and it did not budge which plays with the PPM and the toggle rule. Seriously, good catch, Bopper. I'm going to respec and try with the proc in an attack. So, if you are building to depend on SMotT, you are better off having it in a single target attack. Psyonico
I usually slot SMotT in the first two powers, as those are the ones you'll be firing off more. you can usually get 2 stacks of them that way and with any luck, 3. What this team needs is more Defenders
hakurr
thank you . i am not counting on SMotT but i also want to make the best use of it.
Caulderone
As noted, I prefer SMotT in a single target attack. I do, however, like the idea of Superior Gauntleted Fist's +absorb in my AoE attack. The resist from SMotT I want reliably against a hard single target. The absorb from SGF seems most useful to me early in an AoE fight to help absorb the alpha or recover from it. Personal preference, obviously.

Single target, or would a cone be OK? I've got mine in Frost. Dang, between this and the Power Transfer not stacking I'm running out of respecs. 🙂 Edited April 16, 2020 by Sura Although looking at the PT PPM maybe having two isn't bad. Frost has radius(range) 10 and arc 90 (for PPM purposes, which doesn't take the +50% from Gauntlet into account, thankfully). At 5PPM, assuming I have used the spreadsheet correctly, then we have the following proc chances: 50% slotted recharge = 57.89% proc chance 100% slotted recharge = 46.84% proc chance I'd say it should work very well in Frost. Bopper
The answer to this will depend on your build and expectations. If you are going to be in a mob and need your Resistance proc to hit 3 stacks quickly, a long recharge AoE might be your preferred attack. But if you need something to sustain in a long fight with a hard enemy, a single target attack with moderate base recharge might be preferred. Redlynne
One other point is that some sets (looking at you Martial Arts) have a fair amount of mez effects built into powers, and if you're slotting ATOs but want to enhance those mez effects (so as to perma double stack them) you essentially can't fit mez enhancement AND your ATO sets into the same power(s). So depending on your build it's sometimes necessary to put the ATO sets into powers that don't have mez durations attached to them so as to not conflict with other priorities.
