Green Lantern type character

So a long time ago I created a character that had similar powers to the Green Lanterns and when the game was live, I tried to create him but never got very far. Now that we have this server, I decided I wanted to try again.

 

Any thoughts on how I should build him? What would be the best way to go about that? I've only ever really played as blasters or melee characters so I don't know much about the other types.

Are you going for aesthetic looks or something else.  You can colorize any power set to look green thus justifying a green lantern look so to speak.

 

Outside of that you can opt for controller/dominator sets and colorize the pets green(illusion for example).  Defender sets like shield and secondaries could be done similarly etc.

 

It just really mostly depends on what you want to play versus anything else.  Green Lantern cannot wholly be mimic'd here since lantern's powerset is more or less imagination/dc universe online mmo sort of considerations.

I would go Illusion/Force Field or Illusion/Sonic Controller.  Illusions are creatures that your ring generates, while the Force Field or Sonic defenses are generated by your ring as well.

I'd tinted green in my psi melee powers without having looked at them just to match my random costume (yeah, I'm that guy) and was surprised to find I'd made a Green lantern lizard guy. If I were a backstory person I'd guess he's a crazy Neal Adams' hollow earth dino-ganger of guy Gardner.

When the game first launched, my first character was an energy/energy blaster mimicking GL... Embarrassingly, I was one of the first to get flagged for potential copyright issues and had to delete him. I am far more creative now.

That's not bad.  Can't recall, was Illusion proliferated to Doms?  Because if so I'd go Ill/Energy Dom.

I have a lowbie Ill/FF controller, and holy cow is she a challenge to play, at least at low levels, and solo. At level 7 she only has three "offensive" powers - Spectral Wounds, uh, the "flashbulb" thing, and Confuse. On her FF side, she only has the first power, (Force Bubble?), which is mostly useless solo because she can't attack while it's up. And the next FF power she'll have available cannot be used on herself.

 

So she ended up doing the Shining Stars arc up through the "Save Manticore" mission, and wow, did I have to get creative. Largely because all those "Arachnos" lieutenants are largely immune to anything except direct damage. Well, not techinically immune, but good luck landing any kind of immobilization on mobs that con +1 or +2 levels higher than you.

I made a Sinestro-type character on live. I created him to RP with a SG called "The Cerulean Legion." The SG leader basically gave me a Cease & Desist...So I tweaked his concept.

 

Result: Nefarios Ghast

 

Ghast ended up being my favourite character.

for a concept similar to a lantern really many AT and sets can apply as each Lantern tended to have a personal approach.

 

As some others have said a human form PB is a good option. lots of fields, energy glowing. ranged and melee with KB for some CC very adaptable Im using two human form PBs atm myself one meant to mimic Iron man the other a kryptonian. A GL mimic Id do abit different from either of those so just another example of the diversity even with in a concept AT like the PB.

 

I actually used to have  a GL costume on my old psi ment blaster and always found that power set to do a decent GL mimic as well. Force mastery for the epic pool.

 

So really make a few variants and see what feels good to you would be my suggestion.

I had a green lantern homage character in the original game that was a titan weapons/electric armor brute. Also had a golden age green lantern fire control/fiery assault dominator (as much of Alan Scotts early appearances were him shooting emerald fire from his ring).
