End Game Dominator Videos

With the lift on the moratorium on video content I was hoping we could get some vets to share some Dom videos. I recently took a few I'm willing to share. I think with a lot of other classes people basically know what to "expect" from an end game build, for various reasons not so much Dominators because they play so differently from everything else.

I kept the cursor turned on so you can see what I'm up to each moment, and you'll notice right away how shaky my hands are. Plenty of mistakes made in these vids, but also a few moments I was like "Oh yeah that was a good move."

Video 1: Elec/Psi/Psi

This is a recently rebuilt character, previously Elec/Psi/Mu. I backtracked to the Psi pool for some extra defense. I got super lucky in this mission and there were very few bosses. In missions with a lot of them, he's a lot slower. It still took 16 minutes to clear, which I'm sure is well behind other archetypes at end game. There are some interesting and flashy effects going on though.

You may be able to get a sense from this how realistic it is to maintain endurance drain on enemies using this set.

On a team I wouldn't open with Static Field this way, but solo it makes a sense for me to do that, partly because I have the Defense to weather the return fire, partly because I have a Dom +Damage ATO in Static Field. It's slightly wasted by following SF with Synaptic, but, I find it useful to Sleep them first and then Confuse them. You may also notice me re-layering Static Field often. With two patches down, bosses get Slept with some regularity.

Video 2: Earth/Savage/Leviathan

This build is less complete and follows instructions closer to a "Trust Fund Dominator" I wrote a guide to a while back. You'll notice lower overall Defense. There's a stressful near-death about midway through. This video was supposed to be longer, but I accidentally clicked the OBS button outside the CoX window and it froze the game, thus suicide by video recorder.

I've mentioned in a few posts how effective Water Spout is in particular. Part of the reason I wanted to capture this particular build is to show how often it can be up and how generally effective it is. Sleet is best in show for many people for a lot of good reasons. In solo wrecking ball mode though I feel like Water Spout carries me through more reliably. I have not a single piece of data to back that up, hence a video.

Despite being more fragile than the Elec/Psi (at least in this content) this toon does do a lot more damage and struggles much less with defeating bosses.

That first video is awesome.  I have always loved the idea of Elec control, but never actually ever made it.

Any chance of a short clip of it vs an actual Boss to see how that feels?

The Animated Stone pet seems squishier than I had imagined it, though it does seem to pull some aggro to it.

First one:  wouldn't even a single slot Gremlins help clear times?  or perhaps the build is too tight for them

EDIT:  oh also, your audio is kind of odd, sounds very tinny, zero bass.  Strange.  What did you use for recording, and did you edit it first etc?

This is WAY back (2011) and two computers ago, with my first permadom testing things out.  I assume this is at +0x8 just to get a feel of things, but I remember having a lot of fun with it.  Pure fire rage.  Does anyone have a build for fire/fire/fire?  This guy had no armor/resists really.

I just shot another one showing how it plays versus (some) bosses. This is Circle of Thorns, who aren't a real threat to me, so it's not quite indicative of a really dangerous fight.

You'll notice a couple of times rather than keep slugging at a boss it was easier to just walk away or let them follow me. This is the benefit of high Defense on a Dominator. A different Dominator could deliver more damage and not get stuck slugging at stuff. On the flipside /Psi is the one I trust to be in the middle of a pack like that and not die.

Note the changes in attack strategy when fighting bosses. It's actually somewhat to my benefit to keep easy enemies alive for a while in order to re-drain them with Drain Psyche. The electric aura keeps them more or less subdued.

Full confession, right now some of my slotting is not ideal. I don't have any damage slotting in the Electric Fences for example, so they're not dealing as much as they would (not that they are ever a high damage power, but its still helpful to have them do some damage.)

None of the pets are very good on Dominators after a certain difficulty threshold, in my experience. The two best ones are Dark's hounddog (because it sprays a -ToHit cone) and Singularity. The Earth pet is at least worth casting.

Gremlins on the other hand I have specced into and out multiple times, and finally settled on out. The build is too tight and they are too prone to pulling aggro down on top of me. It's too bad, because I could use their damage. But in a high stakes fight they're a liability.

Here is a quick vid of some average farming and a paper mish in Grandville.  I wanted to show a continuous run so sorry for the travel and load screens.

I don't play with sound so none of the pew pew for those who enjoy that sort of thing. One the missions I also did a few mobs without creepers just to show what that looks like.  As of a month or so ago I swapped from fire to mu to better deal with the 801 missions so I have to eat more candy in farms than I am used to.

I have been farming squishes since live so I tend to use more of a skill based approach than just strong builds.

Yeah weird, the audio is really odd, what software do you use to record with?

It's the freebie version of OBS. It doesn't sound too awful on my end, a little clippy and canned maybe. But maybe thats just how the game sounds on this laptop so I am just used to it.

Ah ok yes, likely the system's audio solution.  Yes I was referencing the canned effect.

Here is my fire/martial dom which I think is a pretty underrated combo.  It's one of my faves because it plays fast due to the quick animations of most the powers.  It also does good AOE damage which I find lacking in many dominator builds.  This character is not the tankiest build because I like to go offensive as I almost always play on teams, but it easily solos 4/8 Council and CoT mishes.

That's extremely impressive and makes me rethink some of my opinion of Martial. You made great use of these powers.

I have a Fire/Ice Dominator who is lingering at level 50 and has no sets slotted. He chews through his blue bar so fast at times and its frustrating. Watching this makes me think I may need to revisit him. Icy Assault has single target damage close to martial, and a second damage aura. With some grit I'm wondering if I could make it work.

I didn't see Caltrops in your build. Do you have a reason for skipping that power or did I just miss it?

I tried a fire/ice dom on the test server.  It was decent but I felt that fire/earth was the better double damage aura character so I rolled that one on live.

As far caltrops is concerned, I didn't need the utility of the power and it only does 127 damage unslotted over 45 seconds.  That damage was too low to fit into a very tight build.

Here is the build which is min-maxed for level 50 but does decently well when exemped down.  It has softcap to range/smash/lethal with the use of enhancement boosters in a few powers.   It's not as high recharge as other dom builds but it makes up for it by taking Ageless and by proccing force feedback from dragon's tail.   It also forgoes slotting of lots of good uniques in favor of damage procs.   This build can be made tankier or with more recharge but I'm currently happy with the build where it sits for my playstyle.

Incarnates:

Alpha - Intuition Radial (Best slot for this build imo)

Intefrace - Reactive radial

Destiny - Ageless Core (mandatory for this build,  use recovery serums from p2w when exemping)

Hybrid - Melee Core  (activate this for status protection before you get domination going or for extra survivability)

I actually fixed the posted build slightly.  My live build has two damage procs in Masterful Throw and Explosive Shuriken where the original posted build only had one damage proc.

I have other dom builds which I can post more vids of as well.

I posted two videos

I was not aware of this thread at all

Both videos were placed in the last 1-2 days.

Dark / Dark Dominator doing what seems impossible

ITF, Master settings, NO insps, no temps, no P2W, 54x8

ALSO

AV Sinclair lvl 53

No temps, no P2W, no amplifiers and so on

That's a really impressive use of Dark Assault. I'll be honest, I've always considered Dark Assault kind of a middling set, and may need to re-evaluate it. I didn't think it could kick out enough ranged damage to get past an AVs regen.  The value of its ranged self heal really proves itself in an AV fight. I admit I did not expect it to deal as much damage as it does.

Be blown out by a lvl 25 encounter , Tex

Against arguably the toughest AV to face as a Dominator especially speaking with relativity.

See the video as to why I consider this the toughest challenge a dominator can face in terms of AVs soloing.

Well the lore pet does massive -regen which is one of the reason Longbow is picked so often .

No temps, no RED inspirations, no P2W, no shivas, no vendor summons, and AV Killed while Lore pets are on cool down, thus proving there is enough dmg to overcome a Lvl 54 AV while no Lores are on.
Also, this is without degen interface.  If degen is used the dmg is even more.

I finally have a video of an end game Ice Dominator. This is actually from the test server. The build is Ice/Dark/Psi, partially built as a test to see if the new World of Confusion works well for Ice Control. I would still call Ice Control a step below other sets, but I did manage to complete a Council run at +4x8. You'll see the blue bar was a constant struggle, Arctic Air is just incredibly expensive. You'll also see me get mezzed early on and nearly die, always a hazard for Ice Control.

I was kinda hoping all the -ToHit and the Defense from Barrier and Link Minds would help Jack Frost stick around for a while, but that didn't really happen.

Still pretty fun though.
