looking for tank suggestions some balance between ITF + Solo farming,  would like AOE heavy damage oriented, looking for any and all suggestions, not against anything really. If it's hardmode capable that's bonus points for me as well but not required, mainly just looking for something that can solo farm very well with AOE and has perfectly fine capabilities in ITF

 

Also would really like a MIDS for whatever build suggested so I can reference/use it 🙂

People are suggesting SS. If you want to do hard mode, SS is mildly disadvantaged. If your rage crashes when a hostless spawns you cannot kill it. SS is extremely strong in every other situation, though.

 

For aoe heavy damage, look no further than fire. Fire is one of the strongest tanker primaries, featuring a game-breaking combo of powerful attacks and damage buffs on an AT that has great defense without even trying. In other words, it negates Tanker's chief weakness while exploiting its strengths to the fullest.

 

I don't believe in providing mids builds, since that would rob you of the opportunity to learn and enjoy build design yourself. There are plenty of builds out there to steal, though. Just make sure not to blindly copy, because there is no guarantee that a build someone provides is worth anything.

I mean I would just be starting from scratch so anything I can cross-reference would be a nice starting point to the build pathing, i'm fairly new to tanking in general so it's hard to say what mids are even good or not or where to really find them, searching through the forums has lead me with little leads to bio/ss or rad/ss, only like 1/2 builds posted from what I saw and they were posted awhile ago so unsure how well they hold up

Maybe Bio/Spines or Bio/Rad?  Spines has insane AoE potential and Rad is great with contamination. I don't know anything about how these would fare in Hard Mode though.

 

I personally would avoid fire armor unless you're really into digging heavily into IOs.  Fire is the weakest in terms of damage mitigation.  Its strongest mitigation is that you kill things faster.  Don't get me wrong, a dead enemy deals no damage, but in my opinion it is one of the harder armor sets to drive.

What this team needs is more Defenders

I think Bio is more skill dependent than fire, if that's a concern. Challenging to build, challenging to drive. You are otherwise right that it is a decent contender with the flexibility to turtle up that fire doesn't have.

 

Fire has the weakest damage mitigation in the sense that the athlete who came in last at the Olympics race is the slowest one. They are still faster than 99.99% of humanity and mere seconds behind #1. A fire tanker still has tanker resist caps, tanker HP, tanker scalar powers and tanker ATIOs. Nothing with all that is squishy by any stretch of the imagination.

 

The real challenge in fire is designing the build. You want 90% res to all except cold/psi (cap toxic by pre-emptively spamming the heal), mild amounts of def, permahasten or close to it, and a well-picked secondary and epic that not only exploit Fire's offensive power well but complement its powerful mitigation and sustain with their own added defenses. It's one of those builds that is challenging to sort out but oh so satisfying when you can make everything come together.

It has been dead easy on my Brute. I cannot imagine it being harder on a Tanker.

yeah, skill isn't really an issue here, but I do appreciate the suggestions. Spines seems interesting, maybe I just settle more for farming for my first tank, i think a "jack of all trades" would be harder to accomplish, if we're just considering big aoe damage for the farming aspect of it would people still consider rad/SS or bio/SS and in that case spines or fire or whatever. Cost also isn't an issue either

@GGInflux The main reason why Rad/SS or Bio/SS are so powerful is because their primaries provide massive Absorb shields that soak a lot of damage, on top of whatever defenses and resists the set may otherwise have.

 

This allows you to heavily proc out your attacks (primarily Foot Stomp and Knockout Blow, but Gloom and Haymaker are also fair game) so that you're not only doing stupid high damage when stacking Rage, but when you Rage Crash as @Zect mentioned you're still cranking out crazy high damage.

 

 

This was observed as early as November 2019, prior to the Tanker buffs. In the current meta, it's one of the all around most powerful and survivable builds possible. 

 

You won't be at any disadvantage.

You may need to build for both def and rech, and even press more than 1 click power. That's extremely daunting to the average player!
