Frostbiter Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 You got me there @ThaOGDreamWeaver Highlander (1986) was great. It was also meant to be the only one. When you have your grand climatic battle that's it. Denouement. The problem was it was a huge success and everyone wanted more. I don't fault the movies or tv series for having to get a little creative at times. I'll take it all for what it is. Hell, I'd probably get run off if I told everyone my favorite movie of the series. But for me the tv series is my favorite Highlander version. 1 Torchbearer Discount Heroes SG: Frostbiter - Ice/Ice Blaster Throneblade - Broadsword/Dark Armor Brute Silver Mantra - Martial Arts/Electric Armor Scrapper

I might make jokes, but I won't judge - plenty of folks I know enjoyed the series. 😉 Besides, I'm the guy who keeps telling everyone they should watch Killjoys which arguably has some big flaws, especially technical/sfx related ones in season 1. 😄 Still a great show though. You see a mousetrap? I see free cheese and a f$%^ing challenge.

I figured it was produced in Canada - a lot of SyFy's shows were/are. I don't remember what service I used when I watched it. Looks like it isn't anywhere that IMDB thinks it is, at least not in full. Shame. Fun show. HJK gets to play a much more fully-written character than she was given in the second Ant-Man movie. Waste of her talents that role was. You see a mousetrap? I see free cheese and a f$%^ing challenge.

Unless I go to my friends house who lives out in the boonies and still has Dish Network because all he can get is 2mb internet service. I should probably bring him some daylight anyway. He's bound to be running low this time of year. 1 Torchbearer Discount Heroes SG: Frostbiter - Ice/Ice Blaster Throneblade - Broadsword/Dark Armor Brute Silver Mantra - Martial Arts/Electric Armor Scrapper

But for me the tv series is my favorite Highlander version. The TV series retcons the first movie so that yes Connor did defeat Kurgan but it was NOT the final gathering. This is established early in Season 2 when Duncan first meets Joe Dawson. Season 1 of Highlander was a bit rough until he went to Paris to meet up with Darius and fought Grayson, the first "ancient" immortal Duncan had to face. Grayson was roughly 1800 years old to Duncan's 400. Season 1 then had to adjust for the death of the actor that played Darius, and they wanted a new "wise mentor" type of character for Duncan to talk to and tried a couple until they made Methos, the 5000+ year old immortal. A fun TV series, I did not like how they removed Richie from the show however. The movie Endgame.....well there is the theater version, the cable version and the DVD version all with some differences. We get the forced fight of Duncan vs Connor so that their literal combined power can take down the big villain whom according to the Watchers was at nearly 666 kills of immortals to Duncan's 100+. The premise was that made him too powerful despite Duncan taking down far older immortals in the TV show.. OVerall Endgame was mediocre at best and Highlander 5 The Source was so bad it skipped theaters and premiered on SyFy and was flamed to ashes by the fans Edited December 11, 2023 by Voltor 25 alts with all the badges!

Generally I prefer Quiet Gosling paired with Winding-Refn, but this looks like some harmless action fun. Will watch, eventually. Semi-related, I noticed the other day that there is a Quantum Leap re-boot out in the wild at the moment, and now we've got a Fall Guy movie. What's next? A Pretender re-boot? 🤣 I loved The Pretender! Would they be able to make to make it as good? Would it be re boot, or continuation? Quantum Leap's is a continuation and it's been good imo. Haven't watched the last few episodes due to cable provider losing contract with NBC. *sigh*

The original was fun, I should see if it is on the Peacock since it came free with my internet service. Definitely enjoyed The Pretender back in the day, not my best use of examples that post was, lol. 😄 You see a mousetrap? I see free cheese and a f$%^ing challenge.

I'd prefer a reboot. For one thing, a few of the older cast have passed on, I believe. For another, I got the impression that the writing team of The Pretender did not really have a solid endgame in mind, or even a solidly fleshed out story. The final TV movie kind of hammered that point home by bringing in mystical elements that never existed in the main series. A reboot would allow them to address weaknesses in the original show, and to take our current technological world into account, making Jarod even more amazing. Besides, it might be fun to have Michael T. Weiss return, but as one of the other roles: Sydney, Mr. Parker, or Mr. Raines. I'd definitely want the surviving cast back, though, even if in new roles or cameo roles. Actually, John Gries might be able to return as Broots, but as a grandfather raising a granddaughter, rather than a father raising a daughter.

Techwright Posted May 16 Posted May 16 If it was truly a flop due to timing (and I have grave suspicions about that due to the number of no-name films that became blockbusters simply by friends telling friends), then the film might weather better in the test of time. There are several films that were box office failures but are now considered classics.

While I got someone to see it who had no intention of seeing it (they didn't think it looked all the great) they ended up enjoying it quite a lot. Practical stunts. Not CGI. What people say they want. Honestly, in terms of The Fall Guy series, the only thing it has in common with that, is the name Cole Seavers for the main character and being a stuntman. I actually wonder if it may have done better if it was just called "The Stuntman"
ThaOGDreamWeaver Posted May 17 Author Posted May 17 That, unfortunately, is not a great opening weekend. Gosling and Blunt should both be red-hot right now. It's had great reviews - including the only one I care about: my partner went to see it on a Tuesday, sadly, I got called to work, and laughed and stayed riveted the whole way through. (They dozed off through most of Dune I & II, just for comparison). Well, that's Hollyweird for ya. You give the people what they ask for - romance, laughs, ludicrous stunts, shirtless Gosling, and a cute dog - and it doesn't catch fire. WAKE UP YA MISCREANTS AND... PeregrineFalcon Posted May 17 Posted May 17 1 hour ago, ThaOGDreamWeaver said: Well, that's Hollyweird for ya. You give the people what they ask for - I think this is a misconception. No one asked for a reboot of the Fall Guy. Most people don't remember the series, have no idea who Lee Majors or Heather Locklear are, and are tired of the garbage that's been coming out of Hollyweird lately. All they really know is that it's a reboot and, for a lot of people, that's enough for them to decide to not see it. Humans are really good at pattern recognition, and for the last 20 years the pattern many people have seen is Reboot = Garbage. Unfortunately until Hollywood regains their reputation for putting out good movies people are just going to stop watching movies. Which means that the occasional good movie is going to go unnoticed. It's unfortunate but, until Hollywood starts hiring new writers, that's the way it's probably going to continue to be. And Hollywood has no one to blame but themselves. Being constantly offended doesn't mean you're right, it means you're too narcissistic to tolerate opinions different than your own.

(Though I'm not sure about half of these count). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_based_on_television_programs Of the others in recent memory... The Equalizer movies were... pretty unremarkable, but Denzel did decent box office ($150m to $200m on $60m to $70m-ish budgets). X-Files... nah. Loved the series (and the reboot/extension), but neither movie added anything useful. And I would like to present for your consideration/humiliation/obliteration one of the single worst, childhood-wrecking adaps known to man...
