zenijos10
I have seen several purpled out builds, but they are a bit beyond my means. I have about 150m influence for this build. I'm not interested in hearing about ways to make more influence, instead I'd like to make the most of the influence I have. I am rusty at the game, and have never played a fire/kin. I'd like to use the character for helping to level other characters through farms of some kind (don't care which kind). But also, I will probably use him for general grouping. Here is my first stab, I will appreciate any help. Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 2.22 http://www.cohplanner.com/ Click this DataLink to open the build! Coyote
A Fire/Kin doesn't need Purple sets too much. Purple sets help with +Recharge as their main benefit, and Fire/Kin doesn't need much help with Recharge. Instead, go for a Defense build, using Kinetic Combat in any melee attacks that you may take like Air Superiority, Obliteration in PBAoEs, and Thunderstrike in Ranged attacks. Siphon Speed/Hasten will help a lot with +Recharge, so build for +Defense and you will probably do better. Or +Resist would also work, though I prefer +Defense since it also helps prevent getting mezzed.

Dahle
I would honestly go for 3 slotting Perf Shifter in Stamina over the split you have, it is a 3% decrease to the skill but you get a more useful set bonus. And if your ok with it i'd remove the 6th slot from tactics to remove the Rech IO for Adjusted Targeting to get the 4 slot of Perf Shift in Stamina. In Bonfire, I'd use the Sudden Acc Proc instead of Overwhelming Force, it is cheaper and opens you up to put the Overwhelming Force proc into imps, hot feet or Fireball. I'd also skip slotting Boxing at all. just save the slot for something else. I play where my toons are... and they are everywhere. But Everlasting is my current main home. Come on by my base GOLD-11404. And, yes, most of my toons start Gold Side (Bold Side)! If you want to make a fortune of Inf in City of Heroes, watch my guide on the Auction House.Or come on by and visit my Discord. I run my theme groups there and chat with Twitch viewers in voice there. And lastly, come see my on Twitch. City of Heroes is my main game! zenijos10
@Dahle, Seems like sound advice. Ill 3 slot perf shift in stamina. I can also move overwhelming force knockback( i already have one). Regarding overwhelming force, I didnt realize it also create a regular chance to knockdown. So in my pets, each of them gets a chance for it? What do you think about pairing it with Stupefy in Flashfire? Will overrwhelming force both increase the chance for knockback and convert all knockaback to knockdown? Dahle
Regarding overwhelming force, I didnt realize it also create a regular chance to knockdown. So in my pets, each of them gets a chance for it? I think it give Imps like 18-20% chance to KD on hit. It isn't amazing but it adds up with 3 imps. What do you think about pairing it with Stupefy in Flashfire? I slot Will of the Confroller in Flashfire, but I run MASSIVE amounts of +Rech on my build so I am hitting Flashfire a lot to reapply it. So not really in your build as I'd call that a psuedo Purple for it's cost. I see the advantage of extending the duration of the stun though, it is a great combo with fire cages for lockdown. Will overrwhelming force both increase the chance for knockback and convert all knockaback to knockdown? I believe it adds the Proc for chance for Knockdown and also does KB to KD. zenijos10
I put both a stupefy knockback proc and the overwhelming force proc into flashfire. It did.both knockback and knockdown. The effects did not seem to stack. I took the stupefy proc out and am happy with the overwhelming force by itself in flashfire. Very satisfying. Redeyeknight
Man... fire/kin doesnt need anything. It was a viable farming choice before AE, IO's and sets were a thing and it remains the same. Old school farms were freakshow and the valkyrie mission.. if you soft cap s/l family farm is the best. It's all about chaining and priority. Flash fire, fire cages, FS, fireball, all the kinetics fun to get you back up to full health and end, stack siphon speed like it's your job,, kill the mob/group, pop any inspirations that are relevant/unnecessary. Next group you need to jump into and use cinders, fire cages, FS, fireball... kinetics as needed..... If you are going fast enough the tertiary group demands that you use inspirations to kill them, as you wont have any hard control powers to deal with them. You survived the third group? Flashfire will be up.for.the fourth. It isnt? Congrats... you have reached the highest echelon of fire/kin farming. Your name will be added to the millions of gold farmers that spammed PI during live. (Seriously though.. good job) You want 20 FS up at all times, 2 siphon speed minimum, enough end for transference every mob, and hasten on auto. You should be able to start farming with SOs at 50. Then start building your character and fine tuning them. My live fire kin had garbage sets (none of them) and farmed just fine until AE became the way to do it.... and was profitable enough to kit out several 50's while still being viable for high level content. TL;DR; You're a fire/kin troller. Cherry pick your mobs and you can solo until you can afford purples. After that, paragon city is your oyster. Caldazar4
You definitely want CJ instead of hover because Hot feet doesnt work if you're flying too high. Repel is bad, trade it out for vengeance for an LOTG mule. You don't really need anything but the KB to KD IO in bonfire, especially if you're teaming. If you're farming then its nice to get as much damage as possible. I find that at level 50, Rise of the phoenix is better than siphon power. If you have money left over, switch out the impervium: psionic for a gladiator's 3% defense in fire shield for even more defense. Caldazar4
Those two slots could be used for defense or recharge basically, most people will be self sufficient on end, and if they're not you have transference.
zenijos10
I think my previous build was too squishy. I made a new one centered on Defense instead of resistance. jack_nomind posted this handy survival chart. This chart lists your effective HP multiplier at certain levels of resilience. The horizontal axis is Resistance, the vertical axis is Defense. D/R 20 40 60 80 85 90 10 1.56 2.08 3.13 6.25 8.33 12.5 20 2.08 2.78 4.167 8.33 11.11 16.67 30 3.13 4.167 6.25 12.5 16.67 25 40 6.25 8.33 12.5 25 33.33 50 42.5 8.33 11.11 16.67 33.33 44.44 66.67 45 12.5 16.67 25 50 66.67 100 According to the chart, my survivabilty (to smashing/ lethal) roughly tripled from the resistance capped build. I swapped out Fire Epic Pool with Stone. I lost self-rez(still have P2W self rez) and siphon power. This got me defensive armor, a pretty good single target attack for cleaning up bosses with Seismic Smash, and also a heal/ HP buff. Still no purples, but I did use a couple of PVP enhancements. BeornOTNS
Robotech_Master
Don't really have anything to say about the build advice, but just wanted to note that you can afford purples quite easily if you get into enhancement conversion. :) If you liked what I had to say, please check out my City of Heroes guides! zenijos10
Thanks Robotech Master. That's a great guide, that's how I got the influence I have for the build. I just really do not enjoy doing it.
Seigmoraig
Thanks Robotech Master. That's a great guide, that's how I got the influence I have for the build. I just really do not enjoy doing it. Not sure if it was mentioned at all in this thread, a quick ctrl+f (Merit) didn't return anything sooo.... you can get purple Enhancements from the merit vendor, if you dislike doing the farming thing and don't mind getting them gradually by playing, you can just run random Task Forces and collect merit points and buy your purples for 100 merits a piece
Sovera
Buying merits from the vendor is inefficient. Each merit is three converters, and each of those is worth 100k. So 100 merits is 300 converters which becomes 30 mill. Most purples are at around 20-22mill. I don't see why people are advising to slot Stamina. Post Transference some frankenslotting and three slots are enough to get back 80% of a bar every 20 seconds or less if IOed out. Slots in Stamina are slots not used boosting better things. - Simple guide for newcomers. - Money making included among other things. - Tanker Fire Armor: the Turtle, the Allrounder, the Dragon, and compilation of Fire Armor builds. - Tanker Stone Armor: beginner friendly (near) immortal Tanker for leveling/end-game and Stone Armor framework. - Brute Rad/Stone and compilation of Brute Stone Armor builds. Robotech_Master
All you need in Stamina is an Attuned Performance Shifter EndMod, an Attuned Performance shifter Endurance Proc, and a boosted 50+5 common EndMod IO. Boom, you're done. If you liked what I had to say, please check out my City of Heroes guides!

I have lots of alts. I think making the most of builds per inf is a high value skill. I don't want to purple out each build, but I think getting non-purple IO sets is worth it. Purples help to increase effectiveness in a relatively small area per influence compared to non-purple IOs. For certain tasks or ideas the purples are worth it, but I'm not interested in that for my play time. I respect and admire people who can purple out their build. I don't personally want to do it. As for transference. I tried a build relying on it, but I really prefer having to pay less attention to it. Higher base stamina gives me a buffer to forget to use transference. I think possibly you can thrive on a build where endurance consumption ~= endurance generation by using transference, but I do not enjoy it. I prefer to use transference less often. Alpha helps here too.
Hyperstrike
Not to be too much of a "RIchard". But participate in Ship raids and TFs on a regular basis and realizing a "purpled out" build isn't quite so tough. If you want to be godlike, pick anything. If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK! Caldazar4
Caldazar, what incarnate powers do you have with this build? (extremely cool build by the way!) ~Beorn Thanks, the only one I'd say is important to the build is Agility Core for the alpha to maximize defense and recharge. Other than that I like: Destiny: Clarion Core for mez protection or Barrier for Defense Judgement: ION makes a funny noise Interface: Reactive or Degenerative Lore: People say cimerorans or banished panteon Hybrid: Control is nice for the damage proc but Support is always good too
