New Respec Idea

Recommended Posts

Tired of doing a whole respec to fix just one power you want to replace?  I know I am.

I had an idea.  Wouldn't  it be great if you could just un choose a power or slots and leave all other selections intact? Even if it was only to allow you access to another power available at the level you took the power and the slots you currently have in it?

So many times I just want to adjust one power or a few slots! Many times I just stick with it because I don't want to take the time to respec just one detail out. ) No using it to skip power chain requirements like in pool powers ( ie taking fighting and respec out kick to just take tough and weave)

I am sure I could have explained what I mean better.  I think most people will get the gist of it .

Cheers!screenshot_240618-18-18-49_1.thumb.jpg.7954d45d0d976fbb50aeaa00bdad958e.jpg

i have also wanted this for a long time - sometimes i want to change just 1 power or a few slots

a lvl 30 cathedral of pain style trial to unlock it each time would be a fun.

something that’s an actual challenge and not available for purchase on the AH

This won't help you recycle slotted enhancements, but the second (and third) builds of characters can be used for testing.

Writing only for myself: The few times I want to do something like "move a single slot", I've done testing with unslotters first to see what sort of pieces I can do without. This won't help with wanting to add slots, but I do consider it important to know what I might be sacrificing first.

When I am not that familiar with a power (or how it behaves for a certain AT), I definitely play around with it before level 50. Occasionally, powers that may not need many slots get 'extras' to make it easier for me to slot/unslot different pieces in them as I am leveling up. I've tried many powers that looked good "on paper" but ended up being rather inferior in practice. There certainly are powers and slotting approaches that are often highly recommended in builds yet range from mediocre to hot garbage IMO. The only way to know is to test... and the best tests are done while leveling up.

Incidentally, this has come up a lot over the years. Apparently doing this is harder than it sounds, based on how intrinsically linked certain things are. The game keeps track of what level you take your powers at, which is how it knows what powers to gray out/let you keep when you exemplar and do lower-level content. And what happens if the power you want to take out is one you took at level 10, and you try to replace it with a power that isn't available until level 32?

Not saying it's a bad idea, just, a lot harder to manage and code for than it might seem.

You would have to limit the choice of powers to ones that were also available at the same level you took the original power…?

I figured it was something like that.  Understandable, but sad, as I love the idea.

I remember conversations like this on live  and it's one of the main reasons we have alternate builds

I think it's probably the best we're likely to get

There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator but only a fraction of people understand that.

I  might be wrong but I seem to remember this idea being explained away during the live days as not going to happen because of thee multitude of issues it would cause.
