The infection is spreading

Recommended Posts

Happens from time to time. Whenever I do the full Atlas story arc (more fun than a DFB, in my opinion) and pop out in that area, I always swing by to see if any are there for me to...arrest.

Well...Dr. Weber on Mercy Island did make reference to creating his own army of infected. These must be the advanced scouts smuggled in by Arachnos to support Thiery's betrayal in Atlas Park (or make sure he is ended if he betrays them).

That or Weber's drug creating Infected got mixed in with some of the Superdine shipments to the area.

I think in terms of game mechanics, rather than specific lore, this was a sop to those who didn't know about/forgot to get the Isolator badge.

It was possible to get it from Recluse's Victory but that was long and tedious and you had to be very high level

IF I'm correct, these were added to make that badge achieveable - but it's mostly redundant now since you can get it in a Flashback mission via Ouro when you join the Menders

There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator but only a fraction of people understand that.

I'd love to see a mini event that has the Infected popping up all over the city and Rogue Isles, like their numbers have been quietly growing over time and all of a sudden something's riled them up and got them attacking. Send out a notice on the appropriate hero or villain warnings channel that a zone is being overrun and have them spawn where ever players are like zombie or Nemesis invasions. All it needs is to build the existing mobs as levelless versions, add an EB version, give them either a leader or something else that's driving their fury, and maybe come up with a badge or two.

So this morning I was just running around with some lowbie characters to log them in and reset the name timer, and I saw a pair of Infected in Atlas Park in the SW corner a little ways away from Back Alley Brawler. This is weird right?

Hmmm. Never heard that version. That would be a mysterious worm….De Vermis Mysteriis…

Elder Scrolls lore has vampirism as a disease... They don't necessarily say virus.

https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Vampire

Vampirism is contracted through any sort of wound inflicted by a vampire.[1] The diseases that cause vampirism are transmitted through the disease-contaminated blood of a vampire.[3]

i have run a LOT of vampires in tabletop games.  including a few Champions system based chronicles.

my favorite game master had a "meta verse" of their own.  every chronicle was a gem in the brilliant tiara of that meta verse.  no matter the system.  D&D, Champions, White Wolf, Call f Cthulu, and a few "we'll try this"

in that meta verse Vampirism was a "space virus" with a metaphysical component.  and an extremely aggressive mutation rate.  therefore a "strain of the virus" might act very differently chronicle to chronicle or bloodline to bloodline, or even radically shift character to character.  we never explored the actual origin of the virus.  but we did have a "Cain", in the champions chronicle world.  who was teaching advanced mathematics at Miskatonic University.  and was not fond of anyone/anything.

So you mean you'll put down your rock, and I'll put down my sword; and we'll try and kill each other like civilized people?

So, cutting the head off can kill a vampire sometimes, if the worm doesn't grow its mouth back before it starves to death. Sticking a rock, apple, or clove of garlic in the mouth can make it harder for the worm to feed, so they'll starve to death if they can't remove it. Stabbing a worm in the heart can kill it too, but it's kind of hard to aim properly.

These are a seperate enemy group, the Infected, which primairly appear on Mercy Island as delusional people drinking toxic waste in the hopes of getting super powers from it.  The Contaminated are the group from the Outbreak tutorial that also appears in Recluse's Victory, and there's a mission arc in Ouroboros that lets you get them easily if you missed it or chose the other tutorials.  That arc came out before Atlas Park was overhauled.

I stand corrected. Thanks for the clarification. I always thought those two groups were connected.
