1) The single most deadly foe in the game is Major Overconfidence ! Nonspecifically associated with any faction he has whipped my arse multiple times 🙂

2) The probability that an Orange (or higher) foe is successfully hidden in a niche / around a corner/ at the top of stairs is directly proportionate to: (i) how squishy your character is (Blaster Defender etc) (ii) or how low your Endurance has slipped 🙂

3) The number / type of 'shiny'  clues / objects required in a mission is determined by a special game engine photo-electric cells that measure direct sunlight / spotlight on your screen 🙂

4) When you reach mid 20's and dive down the 'rabbit hole' that is Invention Origin and Enhancements Sets it is strongly recommended that you: (i) carefully read the descriptions of the type / results and (ii) use the Auction House to estimate what the total cost in INF will be. In the latter case - double the estimated cost at a minimum to allow for dumb arse mistakes - often caused by the  Psionic Attacks if aforementioned Major Overconfidence 🙂

Regarding 4, that gets easier with time.  I don't farm (except perhaps for monster hunting during Halloween), I don't play market games, and yet I'm always able to pay for the IOs I plan for (it helps to ignore purples, for example); might help to download Mids and work with that too.    Have fun, stop and punch the roses.

Tim "Black Scorpion" Sweeney: Matt (Posi) used to say that players would find the shortest path to the rewards even if it was a completely terrible play experience that would push them away from the game...

I don't like Mid's personally, though it is really useful, it feels too much like work to me.

You should certainly try it, though.

I also suggest:

https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/49175-city-mod-installer-released/

And the first things to install should be the Vidiotmaps mod, and the double-loud glowie mod.

Vidiotmaps not only shows you where the zone badges are (collect 'em all for 5 merits per zone) but, importantly, tells you where various enemies like to hang out. Essential for the "Hunt N of X enemies in zone Y" missions some contacts are fond of.

And, if no one has said it before, Welcome Home!

"....And the night got deathly quiet
And his face lost all expression
Said, "If you're gonna play the game, boy
You gotta learn to play it right

You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fight'em
Know when to run away
And run on out that door..." - slaughtered paraphrasing of "the Gambler"

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

I use it to open a build someone gives me then slavishly follow it. I'm so bad at making builds myself, but some people are happy to spend hours frankenslotting for the elusive last 1% and I would feel churlish to not take advantage of their efforts.

I've found
@Lithobraker's "Loud Glowie" mod (among others) to be invaluable. I felt like the other glowy sound mods I tried made the game unpleasant, but those 5 extra decibels really do make a huge difference and make it so much easier for me to find them.

It's available through @Michiyo's City Modder tool (among many, many other useful mods).

A newbie mistake that I made on the auction house more than once was putting an item up for sale without paying attention to those numbers on the left that tell you if anyone is actually bidding at all. The numbers on the right showing the price that the last few sold for can distract and tempt one into wasting money on a fee to put up something for sale that no one wants to buy in the first place.

These days, TBH, I just post 99% of auction house items for 10 bucks, since that's the highest amount that still gets the absolute minimum $5 fee. I'm not greedy and I'm not patient. I'd rather get the $50K minimum bid right away than the $500K that someone might put down 3 days from now. Obviously, if I start seeing a bunch of people bidding 10 bucks on everything no matter how rare, I'll change that policy. But for now, I just can't be bothered.

If I'm just looking to get selling badges and clear out the vendor trash, then I'll put stuff up for a buck.
