JasperStone Posted Thursday at 11:06 AM Posted Thursday at 11:06 AM (edited) Breaking the Rhyme Scheme Hey everyone! It’s Men's Mental Health Month, and I just wanted to take a moment to share how much I appreciate having this game as a little escape from everything going on in the world. It’s not just about running around, completing missions, and fighting enemies—there’s so much more to do! From sprucing up your base and customizing your costumes to trying out new builds, there’s always something fun to keep you engaged. Some days, I love to just chill in my base, catching up on chat while I do a few things on my second computer. And yes, I do get outside and enjoy some time in nature—I make sure to touch some grass now and then! I’m also at that stage in life where my parents are growing older and, sadly, departing this plane of existence. Home doesn’t feel like home anymore, but I find comfort in the gaming community and the connections we share. Skyhawke Posted Thursday at 11:54 AM Posted Thursday at 11:54 AM Love this. I think it's safe to say a good chunk of us on these boards grew up in or near the end of the "you're not a man if you show emotion" era. We saw our elders bottle it up and/or turn to the bottle to find an escape (which could end very poorly). Men died younger than women because they were walking time bombs of pent up emotions and that societal viewpoint of being weak if you show any cracks in the armor. Even our comic books back then had the "if you're a man then you blah blah blah" tone. Then, I read The Lord of the Rings trilogy and saw that manly men did indeed show emotions other than taciturn resolve or anger. People like Aragorn were manly men (dude faced the Nazgul like a boss), but still kind, tender and unafraid to cry when warranted. Positive masculinity, I guess you'd call it. So, hell yes @JasperStone a good Men's Mental Health Month to you and all the others here on these forums! A hearty Thank You to the devs, players and game itself for giving us our happy place back! 5 1 Sky-Hawke: Rad/WP Brute Alts galore. So...soooo many alts. Semi-relevant quote; and one of my favourites: Andrew Wells: I-I bet even covert operatives eat curly fries. They're really good. Spike: Not as good as those onion blossom things. Andrew Wells: Ooh, I love those. Spike: Yeah, me too. Andrew Wells: It's an onion and it's a flower. I-I don't understand how such a thing is possible. Spike: Oh, see, the genius of it is, you soak it in ice water for an hour so it holds its shape. Then you deep-fry it, root-side up, for about five minutes. Andrew Wells: Masterful. Spike: Yeah. Tell anyone we had this conversation, I'll bite you. 1
PeregrineFalcon Posted Thursday at 04:01 PM Posted Thursday at 04:01 PM June is Men's Health Awareness Month. In 1994, Kansas Senator Bob Dole introduced a bill that was passed by Congress to bring awareness to early detection and treatment of health conditions in men. Mostly it was to persuade men to get check ups for sex-specific medical conditions such as prostate and testicular cancer. Yes, mental health is always an important part of the overall picture of health. I just want everyone to know that June isn't just about men's mental health, but about men's health overall. Exercise, eat right, and take care of yourselves, physically and mentally. Peace. 1 June: Men's Health Awareness Month Being constantly offended doesn't mean you're right, it means you're too narcissistic to tolerate opinions different than your own.
Clave Dark 5 Posted Thursday at 04:10 PM Posted Thursday at 04:10 PM Agree with the general sentiment in this thread, to hell with snark or feeling bad for taking something seriously - that's the new frontier past the "you're not a man if you show emotion" era. Tim "Black Scorpion" Sweeney: Matt (Posi) used to say that players would find the shortest path to the rewards even if it was a completely terrible play experience that would push them away from the game... ╔═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗ Clave's Sure-Fire Secrets to Enjoying City Of Heroes Ignore those farming chores, skip your market homework, play any power sets that you want, and ignore anyone who says otherwise. This game isn't hard work, it's easy! Go have fun! ╚═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝

starro Posted Thursday at 06:42 PM Posted Thursday at 06:42 PM My father was from that generation of blue collar guys that worked and worked. My father cashed out vacation time rather than take time off. He never once called in sick or did physicals/wellness because he felt it was not worth his time -- please go to the doctor when you do not feel good. Take a day off to recuperate. Take care of yourself and don't mask issues with alcohol or drugs. Follow the symptoms and signals and get checked out for both routine or emerging small things. My father did not and he was gone in less than a month when his cancer did become all too obvious Memorial Day '94. 4 1 1 2 Pineapple 🍍 Pizza 🍕 is my thumbs up.

So many of us, even as we cross over 50 years, we tend to be super efficient in real life, minimizing our movement. And most of us think 30 minutes on a treadmill is exercise. It's better than nothing, of course, but it's not nearly as good as resistance training. Short version: look for ways to install safety bars in their showers, and hand rails on any steps in and out of your house. When older people fall and are left in bed for a week, they can lose 6-10 pounds of muscle. And if you're a little old lady who only weighs 110 pounds, you need all the muscle you can get! And for those of you approaching old age - work on your core strength and balance. It's those falls that break hips that often lead to massive muscle loss and eventual death. 1 1
Skyhawke Posted Thursday at 08:11 PM Posted Thursday at 08:11 PM (edited) I used to think this was just funny. Now, it's damn near a mantra for me. Beyond the "fighter training" in DBZ, it also means taking the time to relax as much as you work. Old pervert knew about self care way before it was cool. 😎 Edited Thursday at 08:16 PM by Skyhawke 1 1 Sky-Hawke: Rad/WP Brute Alts galore. So...soooo many alts. Psyonico Posted yesterday at 12:58 AM Posted yesterday at 12:58 AM Mental health is health. I’m a very outspoken supporter of mental health. I also believe that the vast majority of people, even those without any sign of mental illness, would benefit from seeing a therapist. Everyone has something to unpack, and it’s way easier with a professional. My beliefs on mental health come from being burned by being raised on “boys don’t cry”. Everyone has at least one point in their life that is a struggle. There’s no shame in asking for help. 1 1 What this team needs is more Defenders
