So... I've been toying with creating a character that used to appear in the comics I made as a kid.  Originally created by a friend of mine, the Monstrosity was based on the Juggernaut... basically, phenomenally tough and strong.  So, a Tanker.  I'd been itching to try out the Psi Armour set, so I created the character (now called Overpower, since Monstrosity is not available) with that.

But, I'm not sure what to make of him.  He seems pretty squishy, and doesn't seem to have any emergency heals or anything.  I also notice there's no minimal FX setting, so he's ALWAYS glowing and flashing.  Some of it I could live with, but it would be nice to turn off some of these effects.

However, my purpose here is to see what people think of the Psi Armour set.  How does it compare to other sets?  As an homage to Juggernaut, he should be more durable than anything, does Psi Armour do that for him?  If not, what set would, in your opinion?

In my testing on Beta, my conclusion was that Psi armor is “Fine” it’s not great, but it’s not bad either.   I found it to be comparable to Willpower in terms of survivability with just SOs.  The biggest difference is WP is not at all clicky and Psi is pretty darn clicky.

For unkillable with no FX it's hard to be Invulnerability

Invul is good, but since @Ultimo doesn’t use IOs, I’d say SR is probably better since you can easily get soft capped defense with just SOs, throw in Sorcery for Rune and you’re golden.

Consume Psyche mostly. The set has 5 toggles and an Auto, so no clicking there. The rez....well, you shouldn't be clicking that often. That leaves Consume Psyche and Psychokinetic Barrier. Set the last to autofire since you want its buffs always.

Hrm.  I already have so many Invulnerability characters... and I'm not certain I'll WANT to play a Tanker with upcoming changes.

Super Reflexes might be more survivable, but it just doesn't fit the character.

Seems pretty strong to my limited testing. Tossed a build to a friend who was testing stuff against true +4 (no level shift) and it survived fine against Knives of Artemis which was something his other builds were crumbling under.

Seems to be hard carried by Aura of Insanity and then capped resistances with some dummy thick regen on top of a 60% shield every 20 seconds. Just the regen or just the shield would already be thicc, but Aura of Insanity CCing up to bosses while the regen is ticking finishes making it meaty.

And you have to either keep track of consumer psyche or cast it every time it’s up to keep the stacks

There are no major upcoming changes, the nerfs you’ve been hearing about have been live for a week.  Also, the nerfs did not affect single target powers, only AoEs.

it was a substantial change, yes, but they were not world ending like many of the doom-sayers are claiming.

Yep. It is the most annoying thing about the powerset. You don't dare put it on auto as you'll miss the best opportunities to use it.

And only impacted the AoEs when doing damage beyond a certain number at that.

Not entirely true.  If an AoE had previously had its radius increased by Gauntlet, the radius increase is now inherent to the power itself, which caused recalculations on the damage that AoE does.

so like Footstomp was unaffected because it was already a 15’ AoE, but Whirling Sword had its damage decreased.

Probably too squishy for the way you play and build Ultimo, but if you are willing to invest in IOs, you can make a pretty offensive oriented Psi/SS tank that can survive tough situations and deal excellent damage.

Liberty, Torchbearer, Excelsior, Everlasting

Jezebel Delias

Level 50 Fire/Elec/Mace Blaster

This. Aura of Insanity is...well insane. I have 3 Winters and 3 Hamis in mine l, 1 acc/mez and 2 dam/mez. If mobs fight me in melee my health bar just doesn't move, and this is on a Brute so I lack some of the inherent tanker toughness.

This highlights the importance of corner pulling when doing x8 solo, as debuffing ranged mobs can be an issue. But really, as a tank cornering should be a go to move anyhow.

No, in the last RC they restored the base damage on all PBAOE's so it was the same as before the update regardless of the radius increases. I went through all the affected PBAOE's on the beta server just before release and verified the changes.  The only thing the new radius increases affected are proc chances which are re-calculated based on the new radius.  Cones already had their damage restored in prior builds on beta. The only other nerf is decreased damage for targets above the standard caps, and that was fairly huge as anything above 6 targets on a cone and 10 targets on a pbaoe take 1/3 damage (so targets 7-10 on cones and 11-16 on pbaoe's).

OK - they also reduced the damage boost provided by power set buffs, so things like build up and rage would give less boost, don't remember the exact numbers though.
