Well, at least no one's going to accuse them of releasing a trailer with far better graphics than what's in game, as a lot of games have done in the past.

That right there is a truth bomb.  I may just donate a few bucks for their honesty.  Thanks BF, I mean PF.

I was casually interested in Ship of Heroes during the Snap. But as with most "spiritual successors", they never seemed to materialize.

If they FINALLY do have a product... um... sorry, no. I have CoH back, thanks.

When I first heard about the project, I hated…..absolutely hated the concept.

All these years later, and I still hate the concept.

No reason to try something based on something I already love playing.

It doesn't look good at all. Another one of the Steam games that are unfinished and scraped together with a tiny budget expecting to make money.

City of Heroes Homecoming should be the main game you play. And you can also have a lot of fun playing DCUO, Champions Online, and Marvel Rivals - all together you have every possible superhero and supervillain experience you could think of. But CoH has everything.

I have followed their progress since they first announced their project.

I think when they changed it to "Ship of Heroes" it lost some magic for me. I mean, they could have made it work. They could have made something darker - Babylon 5 with a superpowered crew maybe? But this is just "Capes in Space" and my few dives into various demos and betas have not given me any zest for it. I don't feel any affinity with it nor do I feel the need to look for another Supergame because I have one here.

I wish them the very best of success and I don't discount ever visiting them again but currently there is nothing in their offer that is enticing me to do anything than casually observe their progress from a distance.

Came in to see if anyone's played any of it on launch day but it's been delayed til next Monday. Still curious to see what people will think about it and hope those that do play it come back here and "spill the tea" for the rest of us.

The release date has been finalized and is posted on the steam page. It's now Monday, September 22nd. Yes, that's two days from now.

It's going to cost $60, which includes the first month's subscription, after that it's $15/month with discounts for paying for multiple months at a time. And the devs have said there will be no cash shop and no paid DLC.

I imagine it won’t be around long enough for those to be introduced

So the launch was yesterday. And to say it hasn't gone well is an understatement.

All day yesterday people were flooding the site forum, the Steam forum, and the subreddit, with constant complaints about the price. Then the server went down/was taken down. They did a patch and brought the servers back online. I was accused by people on the subreddit of being one of the Ship of Heroes devs, which is hilarious. And wrong, I'm not a coder.

Well, hopefully not about the review bombing.  (Not sure what the point would be?)   Of course, there may be HC folk who are trying it out, and then going ick which would be fair.

According to steamdb, there are 25 players now with a max of 100 yesterday.  Reviews are terrible, price structure is insane, devs are allegedly banning all naysayers from the forum.

In other words, the upcoming drama bomb will be the most entertainment this game has to offer.

Don't you have to purchase a game to review it on Steam? Sooooo, Homecoming trolls (Supa and otherwise) are paying $60 just to review bomb them? Plastic Man can't make stretches like that...

Well, technically yes.

However, you can buy the game, play it, review it, and then get a refund as long as your play time totals less than 2 hours.

As amusing as Consultant (the lead SoH developer), blaming Homecoming for orchestrating a review bombing of Ship of Heroes "out of fear" last night was, that's not at all what happened.  It was mostly the MMORPG sub-Reddit.  Some people like watching the world burn, and once drama over the game price (and then especially when Integral insinuated that the people complaining about the price were poor), reached the MMORPG sub-Reddit, a bunch of people there decided to pour gasoline on it and flood the Steam forums and wherever else they could out of amusement.

As much as it pains me to say it, this may quite legitimately be the worst MMOG launch since Anarchy Online, 24 years ago.  According to Kira, Heroic Games repeatedly asked MMORPG YouTubers to cover Ship of Heroes.  Well, be careful what you wish for...

I will continue playing it, but I don't know what can be done to salvage the game at this point.

It's so disheartening because I want to see more superhero MMOs with a high degree of customization and engaging content & animations...

You should ask each player individually what they think. Shouldn't take long.

All joking aside, yeah, I think a lot of us were hoping for this to be something to play along with COH.  Massive disappointment,  especially for people that supported it financially.

If there was a free demo, (and I'm not counting having to fork out the $60 then request a refund through Steam if played less than 2 hours), then I'd happily take the plunge and let you know, but as things stand now, I'm admittedly working off of their own trailers and other people's reviews... and the conclusion I've reached is not optimistic.

AO launch was marred by severe technical issues, rather than it being a steaming trash heap of a game. People could not register accounts for days after purchasing the game, and if you managed to get through that the servers were very very unstable. I got stuck in a store for DAYS and could not leave. After those first few weeks though AO was amazing. Definitely the worst launch ever, gonna be a while before anyone tops that.

They have gone 100% scorched earth over there at SoH. They still are shutting down any dissent in the steam forum, banning any and all conversation that are not 100% positive...banning people who bought the game yet have complaints or suggestions. I even got banned lol. The "official" forums look like someone's freshman project from 1999, has no posts no life no interactions. The reddit (not official but the only one) is a graveyard. This game is D E A D on arrival, and thats sad.

The craziest part is they are blaming US! We're the target audience!! Many of us wanted nothing more than for this to succeed, but after seeing how the devs and community managers have acted through all this even if it were free I would not bother. The game looks like a browser MMO from 2001. They spent nine years and this is the best they could come up with? They haven't made any meaningful progress in years.

Im starting to think, and this may be tin hat territory, but maybe they released this in the state its in so it would crash and burn....free them from their legal obligations.  "We delivered a product, it wasnt a scam. It might not have been a good product, but we delivered a product". Call me crazy, but what else makes sense in this situation?

I peeked over at City of Titans out of the curiosity Ship of Heroes morbidly produced in me and it feels about the same. People reasonably asking "where is the game, it's been 10 years" are getting beat down by fanboys that are waaaaaaay too heavily invested in what, at the moment, really is just vaporware to the general public. Their devs are at least more polite and articulate than the SOH ones.

All of this is disappointing, though. More options are good options, usually. Sadly, all the other options we seem to get are either nebulous at best or downright bad.

I mean, we could have some fun with this. I even have my incognito Steam forum avatar at the ready.
