100% agree on this. It's still jacked up you have to very deliberately build for this. Actually, considering how badly the set needs it, it;s REALLY jacked up you have to build for it as extensively as you can.

Wow, I did not expect this topic to pop off like it did. Thank you all for your replies. It was more a thought exercise on what the community thought was skippable.

 

I don't think I'll drop anything from Regen at this point, but if I could cap HP without Second Wind, that might be the one to go. I think everything else adds enough, especially in a multiplicative manner, that I wouldn't want to drop anything. Regen really has no skippable powers at this point.

You can cycle MoG and Shadow Meld with this build fairly well. And the combination of Ice Patch and it's soft-CC provide pretty decent mitigation. It has 85% recharge debuff protection, which can go up to 100 with the Cim Day Job.

 

Muscle Alpha as always for any damage dealing AT. Well, I do go Agility on Brutes. Makes building them super easy. Destiny is up to you. I like Ageless: Recovery for the very high end/s. Recovery Serums are dirt cheap though. 

 

Hopefully this gives some ideas.

I should see if I can get my build to have MoG and Shadowmeld. Between the two though, Shadowmeld has way more uptime, and can help quite a bit to "reset" defense cascading failures you may run into.

I can't speak to the current iteration of Regeneration, but I do have some thoughts on skippable powers. I definitely agree that HC-era primary/secondary sets have fewer "obvious skippable" powers than on Live... I like when this is because each power is actively good, I'm less impressed when some powers have gaps that must be filled by other powers.

 

My thoughts on 'skippable' will springboard from this post...

On melee characters: I often delay (and sometimes skip) Armor powers in order to be able to pick ASAP level 14 pool powers that require two previous picks from the same pool. I generally don't do this with Scrappers, but I have a couple of thematic Scrappers that rely on power pools. FWIW, I dislike taking Epic/Patron attacks to round out attack chains because of the level requirements. For my characters that pretty much only play at level 50 this doesn't bother me, but for lower-level play I find losing key attacks to be a large annoyance.

 

I agree with the sentiment expressed by @Troo that while leveling, certain power sets have almost no skippable powers. As noted by many others in this thread, set bonuses on a full-kit build can often do what certain power picks otherwise provide.

 

Obviously for playing only with a level 50 build a delayed power pick really won't matter.

Yes, I used to do the same (now, I still take the powers, but also factor in the added endurance burden of having Tough and/or Weave too early). But delaying Armor powers is not the same as not taking. (Add too, used to be T9 were generally less desirable due to crashes.)

Some men just want to watch the forums burn, even the builds, I guess.

 

Only one on my Savage/Regen build is Instant Healing since I'm going the Reactive Regen route.  But then I also took everything in Savage as well.  Sure, no epic pools, but what does a werewolf need with Gloom?

Nothing.  Gloom is for vampires and goth girls.  Werewoofs are pure, unbridled rage.  You made the right choice.  😄👍

What does Claws have to do with any of that?

I''m curious also, why Claws as an example? I would figure any primary would allow that mostly. You referring to the amount of soft-CC claws can provide?

Claws can build a very effective attack chain with less powers than other sets might be able to. 

(I used this tactic for years with Energy Melee until we were forced to take Total Focus)

 

AND it's a wet dream build for certain Marvel fans.

OK, fair point. Very fair point. You can do this with Dual Blades also if that is your logic. I've had a lot of wiggle room with sets because of Claws/Dual Blades not needing a lot of the primary powers.

Sounds like fun! Might try it out with my Katana/Regen
