ThatGuyCDude Posted Thursday at 01:25 AM Posted Thursday at 01:25 AM Vorpal Judgment is awesome. Part of what makes it awesome is how it acquires targets: it is 'self targeting' and then fires like a PBAoE in its cone direction. I absolutely love this power, because it's way WAY easier to aim than other cones. Why can't all my cones work like this? Well, I understand there are players who would prefer their cones retain a target so that they don't have to worry about facing, but it'd be nice if there was the option to have cone attacks aim the same way Vorpal does, a point-blank cone (PBCone) as it were. There are a few ways this could be implemented... a setting with Null the Gull (or Naught the Ocelot), an enhancement... but honestly the easiest implementation would be to fork existing cones into mutually exclusive picks, one aimed at the target and one aimed at the player. 1
Uun Posted Thursday at 03:37 PM Posted Thursday at 03:37 PM While it would be nice to have the choice, I doubt it's possible to address this via Null, nor do I think it's possible to give a power multiple targeting options. It would require creating alternate versions of each cone power and would require an absurd amount of work. Implementing this would be the lowest of low priorities. There are a few other cone powers that currently use forward facing targeting, including dominator Spinning Kick and the heals for Nature and Marine. 3 Uuniverse
Vanden Posted Thursday at 06:16 PM Posted Thursday at 06:16 PM Vorpal Judgement has an absolutely massive area of effect, far larger than any other cone in the game. I suspect that, on more modest cones like Psychic Scream and Energy Torrent, you'd have a much harder time hitting anything if the target requirement were removed. megaericzero Posted Thursday at 08:19 PM Posted Thursday at 08:19 PM As an option, definitely. I'm not opposed to it as long as I'm not forced into it. I just want to chime in as one of the (crazy?) people who uses the game behavior of your character turning to face their foe for AOEs as a feature, heavily. 1
Psyonico Posted Thursday at 08:35 PM Posted Thursday at 08:35 PM I have accidentally fired spinning kick while not facing an enemy too many times to see a non-targeted small cone as anything but a bad idea. I suspect if it were to be implemented, it would have to be done as exclusionary power picks, which I would be fine with. 3 1 What this team needs is more Defenders
macskull Posted Friday at 03:36 AM Posted Friday at 03:36 AM Yeah no, your character turning towards the target to execute a power is a feature, not something to get rid of. 3 "If you can read this, I've failed as a developer." -- Caretaker Proc information and chance calculator spreadsheet (last updated 15APR24) Player numbers graph (updated every 15 minutes) Graph readme (now with Victory support!) @macskull/@Not Mac | Twitch | Youtube

I've gotten some limited use out of being able to aim in one direction and kick in the opposite, but it's never been such an incredible bonus to the power that I wouldn't immediately switch it for a targeted version and sing the devs' praises for making the change. 2
MTeague Posted Friday at 05:00 AM Posted Friday at 05:00 AM As it is, I already wish the forward facing heals of Marine and Nature would turn to my selected target. I'm not expecting that to change. I will suck it up and adapt, and grumble each time I waste a cast. But it's not my favoritest of all possible mechanics. 1 1 .
Snarky Posted Friday at 09:51 AM Posted Friday at 09:51 AM i have misfired vorpal judgement. and therefore deeply dislike the power... 1

I feel like we solved this with a bind like "+$$powexec_name <power>$$follow" (caveat, I sometimes get the order messed up but sometimes order doesn't matter!) On key press the character should turn towards the target, on release it should do the cast. If the issue is specifically for a heal, you can do something similar without having selected a target (but one needs to be visible) "+$$powexec_name <power>$$target_friend_near" 1
