Not just Aethers but everything you can sell on the market is a wealth distribution system.  I have met so many players who just hoard stuff they aren't going to use, or vendor it (better than hoarding or throwing away), or even delete it.  Put your stuff up for sale!

Dang it!  Now I have YOMO FOMO.

I mean yeah. I've heard from multiple people her and on the forums that they hate using the AH for whatever reason . . .

And then in the same breath complain that they are poor inf wise and that's why they can't get into the IO system.

Ummmmmm . . . lol

On a serious note, the Devs have said repeatedly that they consider the AH to be part of the game.

It's like refusing to use the Newspaper/Radio and refusing to team, then complaining that you have no way to gain xp further when you run out of missions.

You cannot run out of missions. Unless you refuse contacts/storylines/missions for reasons X

I think that is @golstat2003's point. That a player refuses to do repeatable contacts (which technically includes TF/SF contacts), refuses to team (so can't do iTrials), and so runs out of missions from regular contacts and decides to complain (s)he/they has no more missions to do. (Edit: And since Ouroboros is infinitely repeatable, we can toss that into the repeatable contacts category for this too.)

Pvp is part of the game. Yet the vitriolic hatred on the part of the much of the playerbase is such that pvp is not only entirely avoidable, it offers very little in terms of material reward for doing it as an activity.

The market on the other hand, which some people describe as pvp, is extremely lucrative if you're willing to spend time doing tedious repetitive activities to earn money. I think a lot of people would love to skip that bullshit altogether , to the extent that they are less prosperous as a result. This is a superhero game. I didn't start playing so that I could shuffle components around and buy and sell stuff on the market. But if you don't do that, or regular farming, you're probably going to be low on inf.

Well, I think @Yomo Kimyata will still give some amount once to a @Global.

And at one point I seem to recall @GM Crumpet saying the same thing.

I wouldn't depend on it, but if you ask for help on the /help channel you sometimes get it.

I've been known to help someone out that asks in /help.

If you are trying to get enough loot to fully slot out a power-leveled/door-sitting main or alt,  ... well ... as far as I'm concerned ... you can forget about it.

Hey, don't bring me into this. I'm a broke GM I have around 200 inf total

Nobody will remember you for that. They will only remember you for dressing like an animal and punching people.

I'm no Yomo, but when I was active daily, I'd give out Performance Shifter and Miracle procs in Talos often.  The main reasons for that was someone gifted me a bunch of common IOs when I first started after asking in Help how to make money when I first started.   The advice I was given was visit the Market forums.  It was a revelation when I did.  Thank you Yomo.

At the start of a play session:

Collect my sales and yellow recipes I bid the night before.

Put in bids for salvage.

Play the game, either story arcs or TFs for merits.

Collect salvage and craft IOs.

Convert.

Put IOs on market.

Put in bids for Yellows.

Log.

At first it took me a while to do the marketing thing.  But it wasn't long before I was spending only a few minutes before and after my play sessions.

Aside: I'm mildly bummed the people I have on ignore still show up when quoted.  I only have two active posters on ignore because they don't argue in good faith.

It's also an MMO. The rules on acquisition of funds in an mmo apply.

In fact COH's is pretty much the most lenient in terms of all the other systems in all other mmos for wealth acquisition. *insert tiny violin here*

There is also merits, which you can use to fund yourself without ever touching the AH. I've heard folks complain about having to do TFS constantly to earn merits also sooooo. 🙈🙉🙊

Yeah I think MANY MANY players exaggerate how long it takes and how much time you need to spend on the market. Some folks make it seems like you need to spend hours in the /ah interface to make wealth. You don't.

The game didn't launch with any of that. And the reason stuff like that gets in MMOs is that it's a timesink to keep people occupied.

People complain about things they don't like doing. Different strokes for different folks.

If you don't like doing something, then it's going to be a lot more arduous and seem to take a lot longer. Also the amount of time that it takes to make money on the AH is going to have more impact for people who have less time to play the game.

The OG devs have stated that they intended for the game to eventually have pvp and a crafting/marketing system, even though both did not launch with the game.

The bolded is a good point, but again at that point why even bother chasing builds that can take hours to make base don IOs? Just play the game with SOs and keep it moving.

Because playing with SOs sucks. That's like asking "why bother trying to get a Ferrari when you can tool around in a Honda Civic?"

I don't have a Ferrari to drive and wouldn't get one even if I won the lottery.  It would be frustrating going the speed limit; I would worry a lot more about potholes; and parking anywhere would feel like displaying my credit card on a billboard.  I've driven a Honda for years and am perfectly happy with that.

I also played this game for years without IOs and more without ATOs and WinterOs and was perfectly happy.

Sure, but you aren't me.

The older this game gets, and the older the playerbase becomes, the more people on the forums seem to take their perspective as normal or reasonable and just dismiss other people's complaints. I'm not looking or expecting for things to change to suit me, but I do like to chime in and remind people that different players have different priorities.

I also own a Honda irl.

I play with SO’s until 50, and never seem to have issues.

Would my toons be better if I upgraded earlier?  Of course, but for me the fun is the challenge.

Once I hit 50, I’ll fully upgrade, and then it’s about power.

Then if you want those build you are required to put the time in. IOs/Crafting/Merits and the AH are part of the game.

So what? It's a suggestions forum. It's a place for feedback.

Would you prefer to only read comments with which you agree?

As folks pointed out it's not a very practical one the way it's presented. It's fine to suggest anything, it's also fine to say you disagree and point out why. As others have done with this suggestion.

Also as others have explained teaching folks how to make inf would be better then giving it away to them.

The skills that make someone good at resource acquisition in this game are different than the ones associated with 'playing the game' to defeat bad guys.  Sometimes there is overlap, but often there is not. Trading on the market,  recognizing activities with high reward/time ratio, identifying favorable enemy group matchups for each powerset, and even just having a 'grindy' mindset can make getting tons and tons of stuff trivial.

On the other hand, there are a lot of great players that make it work on a shoestring budget, whether by choice, time limitation, or just a general lack of desire to accumulate stuff.

I have given tens of billions to new players just to give them options in how they enjoy the game. I would imagine that many players like me will continue to be generous to new players.

Still I am against any 'official' wealth redistribution system because then I wouldn't be able to choose who I donate to.  I generally help out players that are:

-new and obviously struggling at keeping up with the team

-likable people that I would like to play with more

-likely to quickly figure out the game and how to be decent players

I never donate to players that beg, complain, act rude, or generally irritate me.  I guess it is an ideological pvp of sorts.

I often point new players to guides on making merits from level 1, information on the WST, and finally I point them to info on converters. I think for brand new players I think that's at most what they can handle for just starting out playing COH.

I wouldn't.  I think any player could withdraw from the fund.  Veteran players with billions wouldn't need to and it would help anyone who's short of cash.

You're completely overlooking human nature, not to mention that "Game Theory" teaches people they're not winning unless others are losing.  It doesn't matter IF they need it. Some folks will take all they can just because they can.

The ONLY way this works is if the devs worked in an account age check into the fund's access.
