Help deciding on powers for this character...

I've been trying to get this character past early game but I keep resetting to try new powers. Ignoring the aura around his hands and feet in the first pic (they were specific to that power idea), if you saw this hero on the street what powers would you say he has?

 

Right now the frontrunners are Peacebringer/Kheldian powers and energy punches/energy aura since they seem very "classic superhero" which is the vibe he's going for.

 

Character wise he is sort of if Superman had a social media presence. Old heroes dislike his tendency to take corporate sponsorships and do media interviews, but nobody complains too much because he obviously is in the hero game for the right reasons at heart.

I'd say he's a puncher, either Super Strength or something like Street Justice.  Maybe Energy Aura for Defense but maybe Willpower too.

invul/energy melee tank

energy/energy/energy mastery blapper. or elec/elec/elec blapper. blappers got a nice mix of melee and range attacks with a cc or two thrown in. Of course, your def/res will be around the 20s at the most, but you'll be having so much fun clobbering mobs that you won't notice you're squishy.

Or, if you can get through the slog of levelling up a PB, you can respec PB to eye beam + punchy powers and concentrate the rest on def/res and +hp/regen kinda like supes or homelander.

 

honestly, he can be anything you want. but his physique suggest he's not much of a corruptor or support. more like a hands on and mostly-solo kinda dude that spends more time in the gym than the library. he doesn't look like he's into weapons as well, unless they're energy projection variants of swords, psy, claws shields.

Energy Melee of some kind, definitely - the energy pom-pom punches would really suit him.

I've never played one, but I looked at the images and see "melee support" so I'm thinking somebody who is 2nd line, gets in there to biff the enemy behind the tink, but also lays down some solid controls and some handy buffdebuffs. 

 

I'm thinking Dominator with Energy Assault component and a primary powerset that doesn't have too many obvious "power FX" - so not ice, or fire etc. 

 

Maybe Arsenal/EnA or Mind/EnA... something like that. 

 

One thing I'm not clear on from the OP's original is what is his name? I am working on the presumption it's not the OP's forum handle but knowing that might give insight into his raison d'etre

I'd say Energy Melee/Energy Aura Brute, and for rp purposes just "rebrand" Fury as Enthusiasm. 😄  

 

Recolor the energy powers to coordinate with his look (gold or blue?) unless you want contrast (maybe red?).

Well, with that logo, clearly he's on the A-Team.  So, you have a theme song and a couple of catch-phrases pre-loaded if you wish it.

• Invulnerable / Energy Melee, or Invulnerable/Super Strength are a total stereotype, but one that exists for a Reason.  They're effective and fun, and with the Stuns (energy) and knockdown (SS), you have mitigation built into your attacks to tide you over until your armor set matures.
• I note that his eyes are covered.  Not sure if that's because the helmet has some kind of high tech VR display screen for him, or if he's blind like Daredevil, or if he needs to cover his eyes like Cyclops (perhaps you plan on taking Laser Beam Eyes for an epic power...).  Or perhaps it's the completely impenetrable disguise a la Clark Kent, to preserve his Secret Identity.
• Peacebringers look awesome. But Quantums never ever stopping, ever, no matter what, keep making me ragedelete them. If you go Peacebringer, may you have greater patience than I do.  (my nerdrage may be amplied by my deliberate super-slow levelling, doing many many story arcs on the way up, but that's non-negotiable for me).
• If you want to keep him flying more than grounded, Energy Blast/Invulnerable Sentinel is a definite option, too.

I agree you should go with a classic like Energy/Energy Blaster or Invul/Energy Tank. Would you rather be the unstoppable force (Blaster) or immoveable object (Tanker)?

His name is my forum handle just spelled correctly as "Action Jackson" lol. I'm the opposite of an altoholic, when I play games I like to make a character (usually with my name or some other self-insert like quality) and play the crap out of them. My name in games is usually AckshunJackson, and I figured that was quite a "super" name so here he is! The A was just kind of a placeholder to test emblem color scheme and I ended up really liking it.

The helmet was just an aesthetic choice, I love "secret identity" superhero drama, so I wanted some form of heavy disguise and they dont really have a good way that I found to do a classic domino mask with white eyes, so I experimented with helmets until I found this combo that I love. He can see out of it normally, its sort of like one of those mirrored visors on motorcycle helmets.

 

Thank you for the peacebringer comment, I like them thematically but as Ive levelled early quantums really are quite annoying, so much so that they are what made me make this post to decide on a different power set.

It seems fairly clear that the consensus is that he would do well with some energy, which I like conceptually and seems very fun gameplay wise. I just need to decide now on if he's a flying blaster or an "All Might"-like tank kind of guy...

That's fair enough but I kind of feel that Action Jackson is more... blaxploitation kinda thing... much more punchy than I see with the toon you've posted.

 

That is not to say you're wrong, in any way. It's how we are both seeing a thing with different lenses. I think the outfit is really great but for me personally it doesn't fit the name. 

 

Somehow, I'm feeling there's a discordant element there but hey, that's me, and this is your character so I hope you find something that fits.

It has an A! A stands for Action (or Ackshun)! What's not to get? It's a killer outfit, by the way. I'll also chime in with he feels like an Energy Melee guy. He's big so he's in the middle of things, not pew pewing from the sides. Invul Tanker for easy mode, but Energy Armor also fits, in my opinion.
