Because Anime Silliness is, and kind of has always been, a part of Superheroics. After all, Kurosawa Films were super popular in the US in the 70s and 80s and it is from movies like the Seven Samurai that a lot of modern conceptions of what a superhero can do with a katana comes from. Yes, this would be a set with Redraw. Which is why I'm designing it for use with the Instigator (Take 2), for whom Redraw is not an issue. Though a No-Redraw option could be implemented as well to port it to Dominators.

9ox2tic.png Windstrikes: Functions as Burst of Speed: Multiple Targeted Teleports with a low to moderate Lethal Damage component tied to them, animates as 'Transition to Ninja Run with a katana' and 'Transition from Ninja Run with a katana' on casting animation and impact respectively. Think the Samurai Dash, basically. IMMUNE TO RECHARGE MODIFICATION. 

 

2z30k7I.png Storm's Edge: Animates like Ninja Blade's Assassin's Blade, complete with interrupt time because it is a snipe. But it has a unique range function by creating a pseudopet at your location which targets your target with a melee attack. If you are in melee when you activate Storm's Edge it therefore does more damage by doing two ticks: The Sniper-Shot and the Pseudo-Pet strike. The damage increase should be fairly small, as this is already a 'Superior Damage' attack even when used as an insta-snipe. There is no 'traveling' animation tied to this power: The target, at range, simply gets stabbed. The Recharge Time on this power should be comparatively high.

 

This powerset is mainly designed around Ranged Attacks and the Windstrikes ability to go from Ranged to Melee, quickly, and repeatedly. However it is also designed with the intention to use Storm's Edge in Melee Combat as an opener. Specifically that an Instigator who takes /Ninjitsu as a defensive set would be able to use Shinobi Iri to prepare an 'Assassin's Strike' using Storm's Edge and perhaps a Celerity Stealth IO. While other Instigators, and Dominators, would be able to use it effectively as an insta-snipe melee attack after the fighting has already begun.

 

This set is designed this way to better fulfill the illusion of the character being the comic book and anime style 'Ninja Master' who performs unreasonable feats like striking with a sword at long range, though admittedly it's a bit more common in Anime. Characters who use this powerset will be able to use ranged attacks while in melee that animate largely as if they were just melee attacks, with animations lining up appropriately.

Because I like it. it sounds so fun. I was just thinking which of the three concepts for this powerset combos I would play first...

 

That being said, I could really use your input on the Archetype Proposal Amalgamation thread. Your opinion in that thread would be quite helpful.

Counterpoint:  What about a Daggerstorm Assault Set?
We already have throwing knife geometry assets, animations, and sound effects thanks to the Snakes, and we have the Dual Blades set for players and the animations from the Red Caps.  What if we tweak your proposal slightly to be a wombo-combo set like Dual Blades, but for Dominators?

We have one Throwing Knife character animation, and three Shuriken character animations. But we only have one "Thrown Knife" projectile animation. We'd need to create a ton of art assets to do the Daggerstorm.

 

Further, there would be redraw to it. And the projectile would not match your weapon customization.

 

That's why Bladestorm went with abstract 'Blasts' and the idea of wind-strikes rather than throwing knives or throwing katanas. Because we could make the proposed set with the art assets we already have.

 

That said, obviously we could do Bladestorm with Dual Blades, instead, using all the same presented materials, but selecting a different set of animations.

So, my finger may not be on the pulse as much these days, but someone did show me something today which suggests my idea for https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/13484-eco-friendly-powerset-recycling/page/15/?tab=comments#comment-310562 could not only be feasible, but also be applied to the throwing dagger customization suggestion presented in this thread.

Apparently something in the works right now (whether it's on Homecoming or one of the other servers out there) involves using invisible dummy-dopples which have the desired weapon geometry loaded and ready to use for costuming and power animations.

 

I look forward to seeing if that bears fruit.  It could mean a LOT of those customization options we've been clamouring for since the beginning of time immemorable might actually see the light of day.
