And you wonder why the aggro cap was implemented? XD Exactly so. I actually remember being hollered at by a PUG's tank once, when I started following him to attack mobs. Immediately followed by being kicked from the team. Because ::gasp:: I tried to friggin' well play the game. It wasn't even high end content, it was Frostfire, in the bloody Hollows. That tank didn't want a team. He just wanted warm bodies to pad out the spawn count. Feh.

Wow will we ever get our old chars back again?
PaxArcana replied to Smoke Ring's topic in General Discussion
I would love, LOVE, to have my old characters back somehow. Especially with some of the time-limited badges I'd earned (like attending the Wedding). Sadly, I don't expect it to ever happen. -
Nothing's wrong with it. Most of the ones for sale are probably set to prices of, well, 20M and 25M. Whereas, thise nine hundred plus bids, are all for significantly less than that. So, someone comes along, doesn't pay close attention, and sells theirs for "1" figuring they'll get the 20M+ anyway .... and OOPS, the highest bid that was also equal to or over the asking price, was .... 314 Inf.

What does World of Warcraft do better than Cox?
PaxArcana replied to Hobbes1266's topic in General Discussion
Sounds like they want to cut things in half, and probably do it with the next expansion. Which suggests, assuming each area keeps at least a 5-level spread: Vanilla: was 1-40, will be 1-20 The Burning Crusade: was 41-60, will be 21-30 Wrath of the Lich King: was 61-80, will be 31-40 Cataclysm: was 81-85, will be 41-45 Mists of Pandaria: was 86-90, will be 46-50 Warlords of Draenor: was 91-100, will be 51-55 Legion: was 101-110, will be 56-60 Battle for Azeroth: was 111-120, will be 61-65 (whatever the next expansion winds up being called): would have been 121-130, will instead be 66-70 ... and I honestly don't see how they can pull that off, and not torpedo the game entirely. Either they will have to basically remove (or otherwise invalidate) the vast majority of content from Vanilla, TBC, and Wrath (and large chunks of Warlords, Legion, and BFA too), or else, they will have to make that "get a new level" experience happen half as often. Either way, they're going to have to rebalance EVERYTHING, from the Newb Zones right on up. That is an enormous amount of work, for a dubious-at-best payoff. ... It seems they didn't learn their lesson with what they tried to do with Flight in Warlords and Legion: they are trying to put the genie back in the bottle, while the genie scowls and says "to hell with THAT noise". It's not going to work. It will be one more stake in the heart of a successful game .... and one more roadside sign on the way to the end of said road. ... ... What they really, really need to do? Give up. Accept that WoW has run it's course. No more new expansions after the next one. Put all those resources into a new game. "World of Starcraft", or whatever they want to name it. Take all the lessons they learned from WoW over the years, and apply them to that new game. Keep level caps low (make each level more meaningful), never give people freely controllable Flight (but make the fast-travel network more convenient / less tedious to use), but don't make people wait until the initial level cap to get any sort of ground transport. ... I'm not gonna take odds on them coming to their senses in time, though. Proven track record of being unwilling to do so, and all. -
How solo friendly is this game?
PaxArcana replied to The Great Ricktator's topic in General Discussion
.... with much difficulty: by your command, m'Lord. -
Some lowering of that, I can see. But not to the point of "half or less". Where most ATs get 10-16, Sents should maybe get 8-12.

Add the old LRSF to Ouroboros
PaxArcana replied to OldSchool SC Fight Club's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
+1 If the content is still in the code, and intact ... making it accessible somehow (and Ouro makes perfect sense) would be MOAR CONTENT for relatively low investment of resources. -
New way to travel for those on street heros
PaxArcana replied to EmeraldFox's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
So... The game doesn't have that capability. At all. First we'd need to redesign all of the game's buildings to have invisible entity "panels" around the top to target with your grapple and create a flag that let you grapple to them. But also make them immune to damage and unmoving and big enough to completely encapsulate the edge of the building. At least four -per- building to cover each of the four sides. You're overthinking it, IMO. If it's JUST a way to get to the top of buildings? All you need is for the game to be able to know when you're next to something you can get to the top of, and add an animation of a line from the character to the top of that thing. Then, essentially, buff the unholy snot out of Jump Height. Slower than superjump, but higher, with no "air control" (just straight up). CO did it fine. No worries about buildings, anchor points, etc. Even in a featureless desert plain, Swinging just ... worked. Up to the player if that disrupted their fun or not. -
What does World of Warcraft do better than Cox?
PaxArcana replied to Hobbes1266's topic in General Discussion
Not really. Okay, sure, WoW has done it .... seven times now (twice being only 5 levels at a time), by my count, resulting in a level cap of 100. But each and every level cap increase in WoW came attached to a new fifty-dollar expansion - either you paid, or you didn't get a level-cap increase. City of Heroes has done it only three times - once for Heroes to 50, once for Villains to 50, and once for everyone (the Incarnate system, essentially). But all of them were 100% free. And in my book, that is a clear "quantity over quality" thing. :) -

I don't. But you, in turn, cannot expect people to not speak up when they hear/see you say something they object to. That's how debates and discussions work. ... no I didn't. I replied with vigor, period. Not all strong emotions are fighting emotions. -
How solo friendly is this game?
PaxArcana replied to The Great Ricktator's topic in General Discussion
The problem is the dismissive tone of what he said. Likewise, please? A few specific phrases fair leapt out at me, and did not paint a rosy picture. Is it solo friendly? I guess you could say it is now, but your content will be limited. The ambivalence here is thick enough to cut with a knife, and the outright misleading falsehood about solo content being "limited" implies a lack of potential for fun: "there won't be much here for you to do if you play solo". It can be soloed just fine if all you want is to reach the max level. And here we are again, suggesting that there isn't much to do if you play solo. That dismissive tone is what I took exception to. Is teaming potentially fun? Yes, absolutely. Is teaming the only way to access the majority of CoX's content ...? Absolutely not...! Because: humans. Also, because the phrasing used above, I have seen many times before, from people who yes, absolutely did look down their noses at anyone who wanted to play an MMO solo. Often strenuously and with much vitriol. That phrasing has become a very large yellow flag, as a result. Also also, pessimism has this as an advantage: if you expect the worst, the only surprises are happy ones. Speak for yourself; Redside is my home, cape. :D (Well, it used to be, back when the only MMs were villains. Now I'm about evenly split for characters, but weighted heavily Blueside for levels ...) -

Wow. And people have said that I can come off as arrogantly snarky .... son, you just took the prize for that. All the prizes, past present and future. -
How solo friendly is this game?
PaxArcana replied to The Great Ricktator's topic in General Discussion
Because you were quite plainly coming down on the idea of people who want to solo (instead of teaming up), making it out to be a bad way to play CoX. "Not agreeing with you" != "getting riled up". I never said a thing was wrong with it... please try to remain calm, lol. Explicitly, no. Implicitly ... several times. Your post positively reeked of condescension towards slow-road soloists. -
Hyperbole, much? Sentinels stand at range. Shorter range than Blasters, sure. But still at range. As for damage? Blasters: 1.000 melee, 1.125 range Sentinels: 0.95 melee, 0.95 range Defenders: 0.550 melee, 0.650 range Corruptors: 0.750 melee, 0.750 range Sentinels, clearly, are MUCH closer to Blasters than Defenders (or even Corruptors) in terms of damage potential, especially in melee. Meanwhile, their defense scale is 0.700 .... just short of Scrappers at 0.750. Essentially, they are a Blaster with Scrapper secondaries, and then all of it watered down just a tiny bit to keep from becoming an all-powerful Tankmage.

There's a similar problem in Port Independence, too. I've been given a few missions here and there to bust some Council .... and all I can find for looooong stretches or time are 5th Column. :(

Because we enjoy it. And there doesn't need to be any other reason.

How solo friendly is this game?
PaxArcana replied to The Great Ricktator's topic in General Discussion
::ehem:: Allow me to correct that statement somewhat: A huge part of what makes this game so unique, is that it promotes teaming without requiring it. CoX is eminently soloable, straight to the level cap (and at least a little bit beyond). The only content that used to require teams (and might still not be solo-able to all Archetypes and Powersets) are Task Forces, Trials, Strike Forces, and (most) Giant Monsters. End of list. ... As for it taking longer to get to 50 solo, instead of teamed up ... SO BLOODY WHAT? Some of us absolutely do not mind taking the slow road, rather than blindly rushing as fast as conceivable for "the endgame". So, please. Stop trying to make it out like there's something intrinsically wrong (or objectively unenjoyable) about soloing in CoX. -
What does World of Warcraft do better than Cox?
PaxArcana replied to Hobbes1266's topic in General Discussion
... World of Warcraft had a whole series of TV spots with celebrity endorsements. Mister T, William Shatner, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Ozzy Osborne, CHUCK NORRIS ...! "There are ten million people in the world of warcraft, because Chuck Norris ... allows them to live! I mean, seriously. How were you never exposed to any of those commercials?!? -
One day, I was on a team - six of us, looking for two more. There was also another team of six, looking for three more, all standing in the same place. More people than could just merge into a single team. And both teams were on their third run, and at least somewhat familiar with the existing team-mate's abilities and approach to combat.

Keep in mind, Sprint + Ninja Run is pretty close to Superspeed. If you don't mind the Ninja Run animation, you can skip picking up a "real" travel power, no problem ...

Global channels are GLOBAL, across all servers, not just one.
-
... dial the Notoriety back. Brutes are a high-survival Archetype; they can handle a much higher Notoriety setting, when solo, than most other ATs. Certainly much higher than a Blaster!
-
Completely unnecessary. :) My MMs don't take Stealth, pretty much ever. They also rarely, if ever, take direct attacks of their own ... because the Minions do all the fighting. Maybe I might have some debuffs (/Time, /Dark, that sort of thing), but I always wait until after the pets have started attacking, and have the enemy's full attention, before using them. Now, with that said ... stealth is VERY thematic for a Ninja/ MM. So you might still want to use it (for example, it would let you try and stealth past the trash mobs, to the mission objective - then summon your Ninja to clear a safe zone). But it's not necessary for the purpose you've listed, so you could get something else instead. [ Tactics is also very, very useful - as you level, your Minions will be -1 and even -2 to you. That's already happened now, at level 12: your Tier 1 Minons now spawn at -1 to your level. That means, anything that "conns" White to you, is Yellow to them; where you see Yellow, they see Orange. At 18th level, they will all be -2 to you - your Yellow will be their Red. I can't speak on how to run Ninjas, as I've never done them past 6 or 8 levels. But the above should still be useful, I hope.

Yeah, I'm seeing it as more of a "Scrapper with Pets" sort of thing. So I agree, Defense as primary just .... isn't it, to me.

What does World of Warcraft do better than Cox?
PaxArcana replied to Hobbes1266's topic in General Discussion
It's certainly possible to be a fan of both games but also believe one game did something better than the other. Nothing wrong with comparing strengths. ^^^^ Absolutely this, hardcore. What I think CoH did better than WoW: Solo-friendly, and yet, still encouraging teams; Instanced missions; Community (it was never even nearly as toxic as the WoW forums often get); Character customization Not being a loot-whoring gear-and-equipment driven experience What I think WoW did better than CoH: Marketing; Engaging story (note, I said engaging, not better-written - WoW does a better job of making your care about the story than CoX ever did); Marketing Interesting, unique locations Marketing The world / overmap :) I liked, and even subscribed to, both games at the same time. If I could go back to WoW no later than Mists or Cataclysm, I would be there in a heartbeat. Warlords dealt mylove of WoW a mortal blow, and Legion drove the final nail in the coffin. :'(
