  1. Not sure if this is the right spot, but I didn't see any feedback/focus/suggestion threads with regards to the dark melee overhaul. Considering the entire set does -tohit, could there be a replacement for Touch of Fear? A single target -tohit fear power that does no damage on top of an entire set that does -tohit (and on a stalker has a decent chance for fear anyway) seems super redundant. Some suggestions might be: A single target hold. A single target confused (Dark Control leans heavily on Possess, why not Possessing Touch/Grasp/Tickle/Whatever) Something unique that no set has, and I don't even know is possible, a knock TO. A pull. A yoink. Get Over Here! Whatever you want to call it. Alternatively, an AOE, since as stated it seriously underperforms in the AOE department. Maybe the PBAOE Burst from dark assault (cant recall the name) Thank you for all that you do!
  2. Face option...Ghastly? Grin maybe? Something like that. If you meant like...a menpo or something, thats details 2.
  3. Arachnos. Easy access to a volcano lair and an army of attack sharks. Eventually. Theres deffinately some corporate ladder BS that you need to go through first.
  4. Well, not to balance around IOs, but lets face it, they need to be considered. Imagine a fully specced out tank, they herd the ENTIRE mission into one room and the group burns them down. I cant speak for anyone, but if I had to guess at a thought behind "no increase in tanker aggro limits" that would be my thought. Its an extreme worst-case scenario, but I get the slippery slope idea. Though I wouldnt be mad if they got like...5 extra enemies over Brutes. But that aggro cap might be hardcoded into the game ona universal level instead of an AT level.
  5. So, after reading this thread, I think I've boiled it down. With the current power creep (purples, incarnates, 8man teams, blah blah blah), yes, tanks are background players. But EVERYONE is a background player with that amount of crap on screen. Old school. SOs. Tanks just do it better. Thats it. Tanks are an SO archetype. They can do EVERYTHING they need to remarkably well with just SOs. So, if you want to get super fiddly with numbers, and super spreadsheety at high end and all that big, better, best? Play a brute, your ceiling is higher. Numerically, anyway. If you want to just slot SOs and have fun? Play a tank, and accept that if you DO high end content with high end people, you are gonna feel like a background player. But thats ANYONE in that situation.
  6. "<Insert desired female name here> Mario" ? I always liked Rosemarie
  7. Dont those "Prestige Enhancements" that we get on start only have procs until 20? If your procs stopped working, what level?
  8. Fly + Spring Attack. Weird combo, but the animation from spring attack makes a flyer look like they just shot upward and divebombed.
  9. Havent done Psi so I cant speak to that. But I have done /Earth and man, that was smashy. You dont do much from range. I think you get 2, and one is Hurl Boulder. But holy shnikeys do you smash. Its ~satisfying~. I think it would pair VERY well with Plant's really effective control, this way you can smash safely. Now I kinda wanna make one. Seems like a messy ball of death.
  10. I did /Poison onan MM back on live, and its...underwhelming? Regardless of numbers, it doesnt FEEL especially impactful. I will say the poison gas PBAOE is WAYY better on an MM where you can put it on one of your pets, ideally the one that runs into Melee alot. I did Thugs but beasts might be a good candidate. Other than that, yea, I cant speak for numbers because MMs tend to chew through normal content pretty easily unless you are at ridiculous difficulty, but at times it felt like, outside of AV fights, there really wants much of a point to bothering to use my secondary.
  11. The "incentive" for playing redside is that it has some of the best writing in the game, albeit in the high level zones. Grandville specifically. Phipps, TV, Von Grun (Hi Becky!). These are some of the most entertaining arcs on either side. Not to mention the patron arcs are super fun as well. The power choices for patrons dont suck either. So yea, people are going to bounce around a lot. But I would be willing to bet more than 50% of the population has dipped a toe on red for one reason or another, if they didnt fully commit. The issue Ive gotten when I asked people why no one played redside was that no one wanted to play someone's lackey. Which, fundamentally, is what you are doing on redside. You arent a villain so much as a merc. So the only way to get people to STAY redside instead of just popping redside for some quick content would be to overhaul the entire experience and make you your own villain instead of someone's errand boy. And given the mechanics of quest-giver/Mission, it doesnt really seem possible. The other thing a few people have answered when I asked was "the zones are ugly". Which is true. The Rogue Isles are a filthy lawless craphole of a country. It is what it is. It doesnt have to be everyone's style. Personally, I dont think its a problem with redside, I think it's an issue of taste. Compare it to tankers, or defenders, or MMs, or whatever. There's nothing wrong with red side. Its just not everyone's cup of tea. Its not everyone's playstyle. The early levels dont grab your attention super well. Its dirty, everyone is an enemy, even the people you work for. But, if you play to its strengths, it can be a really rewarding journey. I like the idea of going from lowly peon street thug up to Recluse's homeboy. Or at least Recluse's Homeboys' Homeboy. And again, the content in grandville is super awesome.
  12. Sidenote about MMs and Fighting. Its fun if you add Mako's patron pool to it for KO Blow. Why he gives KO Blow I have no idea. But I made a scrappermind a while back. Not super effective, but not awful either since you are still carrying around a half dozen goons to do the heavy lifting while you look cool fighting.
  13. For a "starter hero" outfit I always liked the Defense set or the Bodysuit Armored look. Its canned enough that it looks store bought, for someone who hasnt found their "hero identity" or whatever yet. And functional for protection, which most heroes would want that arent invulnerable for some reason. After there, I can throw on some street level accoutrements(sp?), like a backwards hat, bandana, sunglasses, whathaveyou. I like doing evolutionary costumes, starting with streetclothes, then starter, then full hero.
  14. Ok, anxiety aside, this needs to be said. There's often a lot of negativity, even on these boards. People always have to be right, not matter what or how they get there. I say this because this thread actually made me cry. No fight, thoguh there could easily have been one. No rudeness. Just understanding and brotherhood (personhood?) and a shared love for this game. This is why this game is still here after all these years. Why it got resurrected. Because no other game that I've ever seen has generated this kind of community. And even with the bad apples and sour patches, there is still this over-arching warmness of the people in CoH, whether on live or here. So thank you guys for this thread. Really :)
  15. I get the same issue with the Maelstrom pistols. Ive kinda given up on switching them back over and over.
  16. Titomancer

    Staff/SR ???

I did it on a tank back on live. The defense numbers you can get are truly hilarious, but largely meaningless beyond a point. Thematically though, its a super fun combo. Just avoid Bobcat. She doesnt care about your defense numbers, no matter how ridiculous.
  17. Bodyguard tanking is an INCREDIBLE feeling. Remember when Grandville was scary, and the bane spider squads were lethal? Ninjas/Traps MM. Facetank until the animation for poison trap finished, a dozen "Stealth Strike!"s appear over your head and your health bar barely moves. SOOOO fun. Brutes are just there for clean up. :) People sleep on MM tanks, but they are amazing against things that arent AOE. Admittedly, AOE will destroy you since you do technically have the lowest health in the game. If I remember though, there is no active buff icon for bodyguard. Its just supremacy range and in the right stances. Not super well explained on the game"s end.
  18. If you think Bot 1 is a doofus, you should hang out with the Medic from Mercs. Talk about a deathwish. He's like a teen in a slasher movie. He just loves to die.
  19. There's wiggle room for me. Mostly because this is not a tabletop game and the game has limits to what you can do. If this were Mutants and Masterminds and we were all sitting around a tabletop we could make whatever we wanted work exactly like we wanted (I once made a luck manipulator with 50/50 chances of good or bad, for fun.) But the game has limits. So when I made said luck manipulator in CoH before sunset, he was an SR Tank, because he was mostly a dodgeball at our tabletop game and the role fit. So while RP does dictate power choices, sacrifices nee to be made base on the fact that this is a video game and inherently offers less freedom than other mediums (medias? Medi-somethings). In regards to "your build doesnt validate your powers" and things like that. Thats just nonsense. RP is built around imagination. And while, yes, my Dark/Savage dom may not "mechanically" have any psi powers at all, the combo I chose is that of a psychic who projects constructs to attack with. Like Psylocke and her damn butterflies and mind-blades. So, not to be combative, but just because someone cant open up their imagination enough to wrap their head around my concept, it doesnt invalidate it. I will, however, grant that if someone is playing a literal god and isnt really good at it (Im not talking mechanically. Not everyone has the amount of time it may take to make it to incarnate level in like a week) then I probably dont want to hang out with them. it doesnt invalidate them, Im not going to ignore them, but Im just going to find other things to do. Case in point, I knew a gaggle of people who made the literal horsemen of the apocalypse, and worked it as such that they ended up bound to mortal bodies or somesuch. Problem was, they just did it, so they're like lvl 12 or something. No biggy. I get it, concept was built for long term. Everyone has a first day. We dont have a magical "50" button. But they RPed it really well, so I had zero compunction taking this lvl 12 as Death, The Reaper of Souls. Its all in how you play it. Ive met incarnate level maxed out uber characters playing as gods and they were total prats so I just...wandered off. RP is by nature a freeform medi-something. Everyone is going to be different. General rule of thumb that I try and follow, in life really, is don't be an a-hole. Or a D-hole if you hang out with a psychotic raccoon.
  20. I think the closest you can get is attaching a costume change to an armor power activation. Just make sure to make a seperate button for turning the armor power off and reverting the costume. Its easy enough to do. Its not perfect, but it works.
