Awesome costume, but I almost demand you give a more thematic rendition of the name. Something like...
-
Yeah, I was noticing the disparity in what it looks like would minimally suit my new brute versus what it is running on the scrapper I am currently working on.
-
I've collected 2/3rds of the IOs I have planned and am at 58 million spent so far. Most purchases have been under 2 million (I am pretty patient) and none have gotten to 4 million. I do have one purple set planned, but think I'll be under 100 million for everything else. Thx for the feedback. It is cheap until I decide to go insane and make it not so cheap (but really, 6% Fire/Cold/Toxic/Psionic Resistance along with 15% Accuracy and 10% Recharge...just too good to not try for).
-
So how much does a typical (not crazy top end, not crazy, cost cutting low end) IO build run? I'm curious since my goal was to try to put together a "relatively" inexpensive build but then realized I had no idea what qualified as inexpensive.

Put your truck in neutral, have a (good) friend stand a foot in front of it, and then push the car with all your strength at your friend. I am not thinking that is really going to cause a lot of damage to your buddy. I think the notion (and mind you, I am not supporting it, just trying to explain it) is that while you are not granite, your strength is going fully into your attacks. Once you become granite some of your strength is taken up just making your limbs move, so less energy is available for melee attacks.
-
Yeah, when the potential energy of height is converted to the kinetic energy of motion...hence the need for a pocket Kinetics player. 😝

Was invited to join a supergroup on a server other than my usual and my choice on whom to transfer came down to the two most recent characters I've made--a brute and a corruptor. You've seen the one earlier in the thread and I do not consider the other's outfit to be anything all that special. But the image I made to leave the choice to the supergroup I am somewhat proud of.

I don't disagree with the assessment on Offensive Adaptation. I've got a SS/Bio Brute I have been working up and initially had been thinking Offensive would be a nice bump but found out that Efficient and Defensive are where it's at. In Efficient mode he can punch indefinitely. Defensive I only pull out when it looks like things are going to be a bit nasty, but can only maintain that stance for a fixed amount of time before Endurance drops to critical levels. But yeah, Fury dwarfs Offensive Adaptation. The weird thing is a KM/Bio Scrapper who is a few levels higher and he feel's squishier but I have checked the resistance and health totals and they are comparable. It may be because I am trying to run the Scrapper in Offensive whereas on the Brute I don't bother.

Allowed this thread to talk me into starting another Corruptor. Was leaning towards Ice/Kin but I've played both those sets quite a bit. But then I noticed Psychic Blast has a number of -Recharge effects and I got to thinking about slotting Force Feedback: Chance for +Recharge in Telekinetic Blast and Psionic Tornado. So Psy/Kin it is.

Seems the name Big Baby is already taken. So I grabbed Bouncing Babe
-
This does not belong in best costume because I have not created the character. But the character concept did come to me and (sweet Heaven help me) I kind of want to play it.... Allow me to present Big Baby Yeah, its an atomic rattler. I am thinking Titan Weapon/Regen. Conceptually he's a mutant whose power keeps him eternally in the form of a baby. . .just one that keep growing larger. Fortunately his mind developed but what do you do with the physique of a baby even if you're 400 lb.s of baby? Fight crime or maybe become a villain. I could really see it working either way.

"The Game is not Balanced around IO's"..... should it be?

I was not trying to give an exhaustive list, just provide examples. -

And you do that dressed as an office worker who just developed powers somewhere between slide 123 and 124 of the PowerPoint presentation and decided, "You know, this is tedious...let me go outside and chase down some gang members I would otherwise have avoided until now. Gee, I hope I can shrug off bullets."? And you start the game with a mundane name and street clothing, only changing costume and adopting a superhero name after having run the streets? Hardcore, but if that is your cup of tea, so be it and I more than accept you actually play as someone who literally just got their powers. -

Emphasis on the above. I lean against IOs raining from the sky. Not because I am an elite player (I am not) with tricked out Veteran level 500+ characters smashing all things in sight, but rather because there are indeed many modes of playing CoH and it is perfectly fine for the different modes to exist and to not cater to all players. I will not say I have not visited a AE farm, but on the whole it is not something I am going to do because beyond watching a tricked out character dominate the nastiest stuff someone could dream up for a while, I find it boring. And the material difference between that and story arcs set to +4/8? Beyond story, not much (which is why my tolerance for that while higher is not much higher). But to people who enjoy doing such, or at least can tolerate it? More power to them. Some people are not "build" people, not wanting to get into the math and work to try to make IOs work for them. That's fine too. And that, in particularly, is why I lean against IOs raining from the sky because for some it is going to be the type of push which is a turn off. As is, you interact with IOs if you want but nothing really pushes you to do so. -
"The Game is not Balanced around IO's"..... should it be?

No, I do not assume. The tutorials have a fixed script. You start the game with a contact who is authorized to send you to do things. You may choose to not talk to that contact but he is in fact there. You may skip the tutorial but if you did them you are being talked to by npcs who recognize who you are. Your character's backstory is just that--backstory. But as a played character, the moment you enter the game, the surrounding narrative is that you are a hero. -
"The Game is not Balanced around IO's"..... should it be?

Exactly. Some powersets are endurance hungry, even with no recharge bonuses driving more attacks. Other powersets alleviate that problem but it would limiting to tell people using Dark Armor or Titan Weapons (or heaven help you, Dark Armor with Titan Weapons), find some other build. Other sets have other issues--difficulty in reaching defensive or resist caps. The IOs that address those issue are less universally desirable but only by a fraction (since some ATs aren't really into capping defense/resistances without Herculean effort). -

You are never that new, not even in the tutorials, where you have police connections and are directed to deal with problems and are not someone who just suddenly realized they can fantastic things (evidenced in particular by the fact you have a superhero name even). -

Quibble: Mainly because its a pet peeve of mine (despite knowing how terms evolve beyond their original or intended meaning) if you do not slot more than three of the same SO you're a min-max player. If you slot your damaging powers with 1 Accuracy and 3 Dmage SOs, you're a min-max player. If you choose a power because it is effective while skipping another for not being useful, you're a min-max player. Min-max only means you are seeking minimize costs while maximizing benefits. "Power gamer" is probably the term that fits what you are describing. -

You start off dealing with Hellions. I am pretty sure they are street level. -

I am pretty sure that was neither stated nor implied. Even street level comic book heroes tend not to have any problems with four minions (non-name thugs).
