  1. I have to disagree. Yes, some of us pointed out that existing MM sets are not specifically bad, that they very much are possible heroes, but I don't think anyone is arguing against a new MM primary. Though for a bug primary to work, those bugs are going to have to be monstrously massive. Which to to be honest, will freak me the hell out. At least the OP didn't include spiders though. If the bugs aren't going to be massive, fantasy-sized giant bugs, then they aren't going to be effective pets. (Player summons three normal butterflies, two normal moths, and a normal dragonfly! Enemy pulls out anything to swat them with and wins.) And contrary to the OP, those bugs will need to be carnivorous just like the Beast Mastery pets. Or at least of the biting or stinging variety. Butterflies and moths aren't exactly offensively equipped insects. (Kaiju variants notwithstanding.)
  2. MMs need help to be possible heroes? Below are a few examples for how MMs can be heroes with their current sets. Beast Mastery: Wild man/woman defender, circus animal trainer turned avenger, beast tamer guardian, shaman or other nature mystic that calls animals for help, and druids. Demon Summoning: See Infernal and Desdemona in the game. (At least after Desdemona went hero.) (Edit: Also someone that has called demons to find redemption and leads them on the path of helping or avenging the innocent. Someone with a sense of irony compelling demons to do good no matter how much they want to destroy.) Mercenaries: Any professional soldier group defending the city such as legal local militias, National Guard unit assigned to deal with the high super criminal presence in Paragon City, and UN forces like you help when doing the Laura Lockhart arc. Necromancy: Any "white" necromancer (a white necromancer normally does not summon undead, but they can if needed to counter a threat), an undead master hailing from any undead civilization trying to restore/create order (because even undead civilizations have laws that are enforced, see I think Geb from Pathfinder). Ninjas: Any ninjas. (Traditionally, ninjas served their daimyo. While not public law enforcers, they did serve to protect the daimyo's holdings carrying out their assigned missions. So ninjas serving Paragon City as part of a secret law organization or fulfilling an alliance with the powers that be to help deal with the rampant super powered threats plaguing Paragon City works. They could even be a "native" clan of ninjas who had been secretly living in Paragon City for generations that have decided to protect their home.) Robotics: They do what they have been programmed to do. Save people and protect property is very much something they can be programmed to do. Thugs: Public service/protection "gang". Think Guardian Angels and similar groups of untrained but ready to fight civilians trying to help their communities.
  3. Sentinels never made it to the game back on Live. They were undergoing development. Sentinels use a different version of SR than the other archetypes. Master Brawler and Enduring were added. With Master Brawler and Practiced Brawler being mutually exclusive. As for Enduring, using Scrappers as a reference, Scrapper SR has Lucky which grants the AT extra defense against AoEs versus the psionic defense of Enduring, with Enduring adding in +recovery as compensation. Why? I don't know, but best guess is the devs decided that Enduring's effects were more balanced for Sentinels. (Edit: So why don't the non-Sentinel versions of Super Reflexes have Master Brawler and Enduring? Because Sentinels got a new version that was being tested when the game got shut down.)
  4. I'm not sure if this is a bug or normal operation. However, I had done the Ancient History arc through Ouroboros. Then Tavish Bell, who I had been ignoring until I saw he introduced Operative Grillo and I wanted to pick Operative Grillo as a contact, introduced me to Operative Grillo and he has assigned me the Ancient History arc to do. I'm not complaining. It's an easy and fast arc, and I was planning on running it again anyway later. However, I thought that if an arc was flagged as done, then the contact didn't repeat it. To be fair, I never went to Operative Grillo the previous times I ran that arc, so technically he is giving it to me for the first time. However, I have also done the arc so he is also technically repeating the arc. So... normal operation or no? So with the understanding that I often come across as clear as mud, what happened was this: I wanted to do the Elder Snakes arc but didn't have Operative Grillo. I did the Ancient History arc through Ouroboros to hunt Elder Snakes. (A few times.) I stopped ignoring a contact and he introduced me to Operative Grillo. Operative Grillo assigned me the Ancient History arc. I got confused and came here.
  5. Yeah, all those letters can be confusing. So how about Snake Renegade or Renegade Snake?
  6. No I shouldn't get the flamethrower yet?
  7. Doing the "Steal Lore from the Circle" mission in the Ancient History arc from Operative Grillo. One of the bookcases is floating a few feet off the floor. Zone/Mission: CoT_45_Layout_04_01 Position: [-34.1 0.2 916.2] Edit: Another one in the same room. Zone/Mission: CoT_45_Layout_04_01 Position: [14.0 0.2 926.8] Edit again: Same mission, different map, same thing. Zone/Mission: CoT_45_Layout_04_04 Position: [-482.0 -0.5 342.6]
  8. I would like to propose a new(ish) AT. The S'lisur Renegade! Just what in blazes is a S'lisur? It's what the Snakes call themselves in the game. You can see this in the first mission of the Ancient History arc from Operative Grillo. Why ask for a whole new(ish) AT for this? Because the devs have already pointed out why non-humanoid bodies don't really work as an option for regular characters. No legs to go with the existing animations. So how do we get a new(ish) AT with snake characters? We simply build the AT the same way the Kheldian ATs are built. So! Introducing! Drum roll please. ... ... ... Nevermind, I forgot to hire a drummer and buy drums.... S'lisur Renegade Primary: Level 1 Bite Level 1 Snap Shot Level 2 Viper Claw Level 4 Dagger Level 6 Throwing Dagger Level 8 Aimed Shot Level 10 Poison Bite Level 12 Fistful of Arrows Level 16 Venomous Spit Level 18 Snake Arrow Level 20 Venomous Spray Level 22 Stab Level 24 Mesmerize Level 26 Poison Beam Are these powers set in stone? No. There are lots of attacks across all the snakes and I just grabbed 14. They aren't even set for order. I am most definitely open to changes. Secondary: Level 1 Resist Physical Damage (from Invulnerability) Level 1 Temp Invulnerability (from Invulnerability) Level 4 Resistance Level 10 Shed Skin (Variant of Kuji-In Rin) Level 16 Hide Level 20 Quick Level 24 Resilience Level 28 Regenerate Level 30 I Have No Clue What To Put Here (Maybe Feral Viper that functions like a berserk power?) Why are these powers so all over the place? Because the Snakes only have five secondary powers that I found and I am trying to keep the secondary in theme for them. So, again, I am most definitely open to changes. Now you are probably wondering "but Rudra, how does a snake body work with the power pools and what ancillary or patron pools would they get access to?" And that would be a damned good question. To which my answer is "I don't know...." For starters, since they have no legs, they obviously couldn't make use of the Kick power from Fighting. Then there is also the question of how to animate flight with them since they don't have any flight animations I am aware of. As for ancillary and patron pools, I figure just treat them like Scrappers for access. However, again, I am open to changes. But what about story arcs you might say. And that is yet another good question. How do you incorporate a known hostile species into the game as a PC option? No, seriously, I'm asking. How do we do this? So far the only thing I have is they get treated like Soldiers of Arachnos and Widows of Arachnos that have heroic alignments. Their backgrounds just get ignored and we move on. Aside from that? I'm at a loss. Though dedicated arcs like the HEATs and VEATs get to delve into why a snake would help humans could be lots of fun. Now, I know this isn't an original idea. This has been brought up before when snake bodies were asked for as PC character options. I'm just trying to tackle the idea from a different angle. I'm also already digging the hole to bury this in, so murder away! Let's hear your responses! Edit: Oh yeah... how do we deal with the costume slots... ... uhm... ... maybe like a VEAT? The first costume slot is your snake model and the rest are human disguises? Yes? No? Should I get the flamethrower yet?
  9. I don't typically play Controllers or Dominators, so wasn't aware. Thanks for the heads up.
  10. What sleep effect power(s) did you check with? I currently know of one sleep effect power that is constantly trying to apply its effect every second or so. (Static Field in the Electric Control power set.) Most sleep powers check to apply their sleep effect at the start of the power only, so when the sleeping target takes damage, they are free until they are affected by a different sleep power.
  11. The test server is for testing. New content the devs want final checked before release, different power combinations players may not be sure of, different character concepts. If it is something that someone wants tested, player or dev, the test server is there. That is why we aren't limited to just new content on the test server and it isn't shut down when the devs aren't asking players to test new content. So players can test things too.
  12. Capes and auras were unlocked back on Live. Not by HC. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the costume parts were unlocked by... SCORE?. So, still not by HC. (Edit again: Oh yeah. HC added costume parts, just auras and assorted character effects if I remember correctly but still costume parts, to the game that require grinding or purchasing lots of Prismatics to unlock.) Could you clarify this? This part has nothing to do with my statement. Players play for their own reasons. Game developers however have to look at ways to keep people playing the game. Even on a free to play game. Two completely different approaches to any game. So you choose to play that card? Then let's turn it around. There are other servers that let you jump straight to 50 and do several other things you seem to prefer. So you have the option to play there as well. If you are going to tell someone to go play on a different server rather than on a server that person currently enjoys? You've surrendered your position. I'm not going to any of the other servers. So kindly don't ask me to go to another server unless you intend to follow your own advice. Edit: You know, as far as the OP itself goes? I said my piece. I'm not going to argue for it or against it. Your arguments in this thread so far however? Demand responses.
  13. Whether a game is subscription (premium) or free, there is an incentive to find ways to get the players to play. (Edit: And when you get to the end of the game, seeing as how paid devs on full time development schedules of even gaming companies can't keep pushing out new content frequently, that means a grind for the best things. In CoX's case, that means incarnate powers and high demand [high cost] enhancements.) That doesn't change. So how have the rules changed?
  14. Back to the need to score a point by exaggerating shall we? I said if the negativity was malicious they should be ban for awhile big difference for banning due to disagreement What exaggeration? The things I commented on in the post you quoted happened. On these forums. You were even a participant on some of those threads. As for what you said? You did not say "if they are malicious". You said: I highlighted your ban comment. As for the malicious part? It came up as: Emphasis again added. So no, you did not say to ban for a few days for malicious posts. You said to ban for a few days for not being supportive.
  15. Free respecs, respec recipes.....yeah, pretty much. The only "loss" is if the way you choose your powers leaves you with enhancements that don't fit in any of your new power choices, but you don't actually lose those enhancements. You can keep them, sell them, or give them freely to friends or strangers as you see fit. That comparison doesn't hold up though. We get 1 freespec every 10 levels(?). Then no more freespecs. Any other respec must be acquired. Incarnate powers can be changed all day every 5 minutes without having to do anything other than wait out the time. Hells, even if you only have 1 power for that incarnate ability, you can remove that power and then re-add that power as often as you want every 5 minutes without having to acquire anything to enable that.
  16. Valid point, however, my take is to just go ahead and refund the salvage for the power broken down. Yes, that would mean that any powers required to craft said power would be lost, including their salvage, but it is the rare and very rare salvage components that are the most expensive (or time consuming) part of the power. Break down a T4 radial Cimeroran Lore power? You get a Supercharged Capacitor, Detailed Reports, and Forbidden Technique. Those commons aren't helpful for the power you want? That's okay, there are multiple ways to get threads and common salvage is cheap to craft. That very rare isn't helpful for the power you want? That's okay, the game gives us the ability to convert it. And now the player has a leg up on getting the power (s)he/they wants. Definitely no Empyrean Merits to be given though.
  17. Not really a fan. I personally don't see the point. The benefit of respecs is that it lets us effectively remake our characters for the limited resources available to our characters. We can only ever have one primary set, one secondary set, up to four power pools, and one ancillary/patron. And from those seven pools of 44 powers, we can have 24 powers. Never any more than that. (Edit: And once chosen, we can't change those powers ever unless we use a respec and basically start the character over within the limits of the game engine.) Whereas with incarnate powers, we can have all of them. Every last one. We can slot only one per type (Alpha, Lore, etc.), but we can have every power from every type across every theme in those types. If we really wanted to, that means we could have both T4s, all four T3s. both T2s. and the T1 for everything all at the same time available to us to have slotted. If we grind enough to do so. And incarnates include their own respec ability automatically. As long as we haven't just changed the power or were in combat, we can change any incarnate power we have slotted for any other incarnate power we have crafted. That is a respec, and it is one we don't need to craft or get any respecs to use. All that said? I guess I don't really care. If the devs decide to grant a new level of incarnate respec that lets us break down crafted powers, that's their choice. I'm not going to cheer if it happens, but neither will I cry or scream about it. It's not going to affect me either way. However, I am very much against it not having a cost for doing so. That is the one part I will most definitely oppose, it not having a cost to do so. (Edit again: Oh yeah. Since your request is to break down crafted incarnate powers as a respec, you should probably do a search on the forums for the previous threads about breaking down incarnate powers.)
  18. The problem I have with this statement is that it cuts out a massive slew of possible character concepts and stories. In one of the episodes of Teen Titans, Jinx and Kid Flash are talking to each other. Kid Flash asks her why she is hanging out with the rest of the Hive Five. To which Jinx answers that her powers are all about bad luck, so being good was never an option for her. Until Kid Flash gets her to realize that her powers don't define if she is good or bad, her actions and intentions do. Declaring things as "hero appropriate" or "villain appropriate" hamstrings character design and development. A character wielding radiation isn't really fitting for heroes? What about heroes that use their radiation abilities with pinpoint accuracy to kill off things like cancer cells without subjecting the patient to the problems of radiation or chemo therapy? What about heroes that use their radiation abilities to kill off lingering bacteria or viruses in an area, sterilizing it, and then neutralizing their applied radiation making the area safe for others? Demon summoning isn't appropriate for heroes? What about heroes like Infernal that summons and binds demons to do his will. He still summons demons, even before the MM AT and CoV was released, and he uses them to do good. Or King Solomon (if I'm not confusing references) who summoned demons and used what he gained from them to do good? Or maybe light-based is viewed as not really fitting for villains? What about fallen angels wielding divine might to cause terror and suffering? Or a character wielding positive energy (typically portrayed as healing energy such as in D&D) applying so much positive energy to their victims that sure they get healthy at first, then the over-saturation of energy instead completely burns them out? (Edit again: Or maybe most disturbing? The character whose powers can only ever heal, never doing harm, who would be torturing his victims to death except that his powers keeps them alive so he can keep torturing them in ever more gruesome ways? All his powers can do is heal, but I'd say he is very much a villain just the same.) What about, what about, what about? You can't really say "this type power is heroic and this other type is villainous in concept/application" (to paraphrase) because it all boils down to how the specific character uses it and why.
  19. Super pet much?
  20. Okay... uhm... I need some clarification please. On the one hand, your post reads as a pool that players can only get 3 powers from ever because of the mutual exclusivity of the attack powers. Which would run up against the Sentinel's armor exclusive powers problem the devs said they won't do again. On the other hand, your suggestion also reads as more attacks being available from a selected category, which implies to me that the pool is actually a group of pools linked together through the 1st power of the pool. Which would make far more sense as an AT, but that AT has already been discussed multiple times. So I am thoroughly confused as to what you are actually asking for. Edit: And hopefully before anyone counters with the 'can select all powers from the set' response, that is the author's 'I'll settle for" result. I'm asking about the actual desired result.
  21. Except I'm not using it in that context. I'm using it in the "12 volt output is functional for the part being worked on, but 10 volts is correct for the components using that voltage" context. However, this argument is a derailment, so I will not be engaging further. Feel free to feel however you do. Lord knows given the way I feel about patrol xp, I sure as hell can't comment on the way others feel. However, I will end with the statement that claiming people calling for a correction to an idea are calling the idea itself, let alone the originator of said idea, wrong, is in need of correction.
  22. Then you are choosing to find a reason to be offended. Because whether a change is called an adjustment or a correction, the result is always the same, the idea (or other relevant thing being dealt with) was corrected. If a correction wasn't necessary, then the change wasn't either. That correction is not a dig on the idea itself. Neither is that correction a dig on the person that originated the idea. The correction is a change to the idea for whatever reason those seeking that correction have for desiring (or even needing) the change.
  23. If Ouroboros access were to be incorporated into available base design elements, then why not just treat it the same way other game available portals we have access to work? The Ouroboros portal itself can be an arcane portal option and an Ouroboros beacon added with both an arcane and tech option to be used with any given portal choice just like zone beacons. This would let players that want the portal design itself use it for their portals to access the various zones or other parts of their base for theme/appearance and also let players that don't want the portal itself but are interested in Ouroboros access to do so with their existing portal choice(s).
  24. The MM discussion is not relevant to the OP. If you want to continue discussing it, maybe move it to a new thread or necro the old thread where it is. (And yes, I will say "No" to the MM/Armor proposal just as emphatically now as I did then for the exact same reasons I gave then. If MMs get to have an armor set and their pets get to inherit those armor powers, then what is the point of the current MM AT where we have to keep using our secondaries to keep the pets alive when the new MM AT can simply not worry about that since their pets get the benefits of an entire armor set as inherited from the PC?)
