  1. I'm wondering if you have played through the game or if you are getting power-leveled too quickly to have gone through the process of learning how the powers work (individually, in combinations with your other powers, and how the can be a multiplier for your teammates) and how to fight different enemy types. There is always a pivotal enemy type in an enemy group that is their ace-in-the-hole; if you take them out, the entire group is easier to deal with - it generally isn't the boss. Some groups, like the Devouring Earth have more than one. This game has a lot of tactics that experienced players use that may not be obvious to newer players because there is a lot of run-and-gun/bull-in-the-china-shop/Hulk-smash going on in most groups these days.
  2. except for break-frees or enhancements that provide status protection like Aegis ... and Clear Mind from Empathy defenders and there is a MedPool power that also offers mez protection to others. If you are on a team and getting mezed too often, you are probably standing too close to the enemies, you have ranged attacks - use them at range. Blasters also have :: "Defiance Blasters’ earliest abilities come so naturally to them, that they are accessible even in states that normally prevent them from using powers, such as being Held, Slept or Stunned. Additionally, each time the Blaster attacks with a primary or secondary power, they gain a stacking damage bonus for the next several seconds. The amount of the damage bonus and its duration is dependent on the exact power used, with single target abilities generally giving the largest bonus." - https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Inherent_Powers#Defiance They don't do as much damage as blasters because they have armor. Defenders do more damage when solo. When you have a good defender on a team the defender may not be doing much damage, but they are helping the team survive and take out enemies faster. --- I'm kind of getting the feeling that you are nitpicking and don't really want to be playing a superhero game. Are you playing this game because you want to be creating superheros to play or are you just playing it because it's a free MMORPG?
  3. To me it isn't a waste of time to experiment and I always go with character conception. If my conception is that the character has a shield, they have a shield. If I want them to taunt the team, then, of course, a tank. If I want to jump around and cause damage, then I would make a scrapper. There is obviously no reason that you can't make both and jump between your alts when the mood arises. I've kind of been anchored down by a teammate to play one character with them until we reach 50 - mix-and-repeat - when we game together. I like jumping around and playing whatever I feel like playing that day or the character I think will fit best with whatever team I'm joining. I have a couple of shield characters. I've ended up playing the shield scrapper more than the shield tank lately, but that is mainly because my shield scrapper is a lower level. And back to the start, I say go with your character conception.
  4. All tank sets are built with a hole in them intentionally. Their Achilles' heel as it were. You run into the enemy type that you are weak to and you are going to go down. They have your number.
  5. Elitism is Elitism. If it make you feel Superior, then you are an Elitist. I'll make sure not to invite "dedicated", players to my teams. My teams simply wouldn't be good enough for their elitist attitudes.
  6. I guess we will have to ask the DEVs to create a whole "Suggested Builds" subforum for you. 😁 I figure I have already posted it before, but ... If you have a character conception, just pick your powers based on the character conception. Don't just pick powers because some cookie-cutter min-max says that is the best build. Just because you get the most out of the system doesn't mean it is going to be the most fun to play. The character you enjoy most will be the one you create even if it is modelled on an existing hero/villain.
  7. Kick Chick is kind of along the lines of High Kick Girl.
  8. Lag is based on your connection speed, how far you are from the server, and whatever background tasks may be taking up CPU and/or internet-connection time. Connection speed making a huge difference.
  9. The better one is the one that fits your character conception - if that sort of thing is important to you. You have thousands of slots. I suggest making all three. You'll end up playing the one you enjoy playing the best.
  10. But it does appear that this was used for the nobility in earlier times and not the common man as far as I can tell. Anyone that doesn't travel doesn't need something in their name to indicated where they came from. As the merchant class developed, I can see it being more used more in as a place of origin modifier, but that would only work in situations where von is/was followed by the name of a City or Region and not a family name.
  11. It appears to be the standard combination :: [adjective] [male/female, animal, or thing] - Superman, Green Hornet, Flaming Carrot, War Machine, etc. -or- [Title] [name or adjective] [name, male/female, animal, or thing] - Doctor Bruce Banner, Colonel Nick Fury, *Doctor Victor von Doom, etc. *von is actually a royalty title meaning "Baron". So it is weird when it is used in this combination but also when "Baron" is use as a preface to Baron von Richthofen. "Baron von" is like "cole-slaw". Both words mean the same thing, but even though they are redundant we use them together for whatever reason. (don't get me started on "coward" verus "cowherd")
  12. Sadly, this does often seem to be the case.
  13. I would like to have a listing indicating if the player's team size like in the friend search. This would allow you to know if a player was soloing or if there is a room on a team that a player maybe be able to join. An indication of team leader status on the search would be beneficial as well as a player would know who they could send a tell to when looking for a team. A search message of "looking for teammates" or "not looking for more team members" or even a status of both would be helpful.
  14. What is fun? To me the fun part is playing a character I created that fits my conception of the character as much as possible. So the power sets depend on that conception. This affects my archetype selection as well as powers. Sometimes I decide that I want to make a tank and created a character conception for a tank. Sometimes I have a character conception and that conception calls upon the use of a tank. That's what make it fun or not fun to me. I don't think any of the tanker sets are complicated compared to the other archetypes.
  15. I usually try to avoid respec'ing. I even go with some character "flavour" mistakes if they happen, and they aren't really penalizing mistakes. But, yeah, respec'ing is a pain. I guess I shouldn't be shocked that X number of people don't use macros. As soon zone into THE CITY with a new character I load on 5 macros. A Heal insp one I load twice. Primary tray flips between tray 1 and tray 2. And a follow and auction house sort of because I'm lazy, but more so for the follow as I use that in my active tray on melee characters. With the exception of the auction house macro, the macros make it easier to play with a controller as the macros I use help eliminate a large amount of keyboard contact based on the way that I play. I usually end up adding in at least 2 or more costume macros when I hit the Icon - which tends to be either almost immediately or before the character gets to level 10. When the character starts teaming a lot, I end up adding in Gratz, Woot, and Thanks macros. I have over 100 characters and had set-up methods before the shutdown to make all the characters basically play the same way regardless of archetype to make it easier when jumping from character to character. The tray are set up so they all operate basically the same with some minor differences that I have other tray related methods to deal with. But back to the macros, the costumes aren't stored on the client side either are they? I mean- unless you manually save them through the taylor yourself. I know that if you manually save them though the taylor that they are still there as I was able to port those files in when I started playing Homecoming. It would kind of cool though to have a "default macro" folder that would automatically upload those default macros to your character during character creation. Well, it would at least be cool to me. But then I would also like to "fix" many of the Nul the Gull potions through the options or simply have many of the Gull's questions asked during character creation instead of having to run to Nul the Gull because of one or another of the annoying things that Nul the Gull is there to solve.
  16. Don't eat that Yellow Snow.
  17. I can't seem to get into the Homecoming Wiki now for some reason, but there a page listing of base codes there. I think there is a thread somewhere in the forums that list base passcodes as well.
  18. Blame it on the Grinch or Scrooge? The DEVs would be my guess. They love to run around stealing presents and who knows what other kind of mischief, but I wouldn't call that holiday spirit ... maybe that's just me ... If it snows in the Rogue Isles it should be dirty and grit-filled from all the smog and industrial pollutants. More like ashes falling from the sky than snow. Oh, and make all surfaces slippery with a chance of knockdown (like 5% or less - which would be pretty annoying enough I'd wager)
  19. My suggestion would be for DEVs and GMs to have permanent statues and to have a wall of Global names for the player base. That seems more manageable .... depressing as it might be to update over time.
  20. - or - This may help ::
  21. Make sure to sell your salvage and recipes on the market to make loot for enhancements. Ask your teammates if they have any spare enhancements, and you will be suprised by the response ... probably in more than one way, but in general, more good than bad.
  22. Apparently, Retconned and no longer the son of Fu Manchu! Travesty! In related comic book farces, Tony Stark is now the adopted son of Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne; Sue Storm is married to Namor; Doctor Doom is shacked up with Scarlet Witch after she saved his mother from whatever ethereal spiritual prison she was trapped in; Baby Thor has a mystical baby binky that always returns to his crib when the throws it; and Conan and Red Sonja live happily together in downtown Manhattan in the year 2350. (Finally, flying cars for everyone!) I hate Retcons ... obviously. "Shang-Chi [Marvel's The Hands of Shang-Chi : Master of Kung Fu - not to be confused with the magazine-sized Marvel Deadly Hands of Kung Fu] was spun off from novelist Sax Rohmer's licensed property as the unknown son of fictional villain Fu Manchu. In later editions, his connection to Fu Manchu was underplayed after Marvel lost the comic book rights to the latter's character; to get around this problem, the publisher eventually started calling Shang-Chi's father Zheng Zu." - wikipedia Well, at least it wasn't a Comics Code Authority debacle like zuvembies. "In the 1970s Marvel Comics used the term in place of "zombie", which had been banned by the Comics Code Authority." - wikipedia
  23. Never said that wasn't the case. It doesn't negate what I said was true. You in fact indicate that it is true. Agreed again. Factually observed by me, and I see them listed as still being listed. I do a lot of crafting. Sometimes I even see a set of bids on the same character where each of the separate bids are for the same thing are showing random amounts of purchased item ... and in the middle of multiple bids ... one that hasn't been able to buy any ... when all are set for the same price.
