The Devs are making sure it's the most wonderful time...
UltraAlt replied to Black Talon's topic in General Discussion
I fear that gifts are often used as way to get around having received monetary gain when someone isn't supposed to be getting monetary gains for one reason or another. The idea is heartfelt, and I'm not trying to be a downer, but the DEV team have indicated that they know that they are in precarious situation. Perhaps pictures of your well wishes may be the best route in our current situation. -
issue 27 Patch Notes for November 30th, 2021

lol uh, what is that motion she is doing supposed to mean? -
I beg to differ. A Story Arc contains a complete story. The story line for the arc is completed at the end of the arc. A Story Line is "the plot of a novel, play, movie, or other narrative form." Note that this is linked to one set project and not trilogy or series. So, by your definition, no storyline can ever be completed. I would argue based on your definition that the storyline could not even end with the entire destruction of the universe that the storyline is set in as there is always plot lines and characters that can be extrapolated from the story that can have their own stories and prehistory that could be explored. I stick with my standing that complete "stories" are released as story arcs. A good AE story arc should as well have a final mission that wraps up the story for that story arc even if there is a continuation with another story arc. We have "short stories", and we have series. Often they build upon one another, but the individual "stories" have their conclusions even if there is an additional "cliff hanger" tacked onto the end to tease the reader/viewer/listen to eagerly await the next project's arrival. You can have stand-alone short stories that are simply part of the same character or the same universe and how the characters interact in that universe, but they otherwise can or don't necessarily have any impact upon one other even in a chronological sense. Simply because they have the same characters or the same universe doesn't really mean that they are part of the same story line even if there is some thread of familiarity. Like a story arc, a story had a beginning, a middle, and an end. Story lines by your definition never have an end and, really, they have no beginning either. They is simply a starting point and everything branches out forward, backwards, and sideways from there is the story line. It's a matter of point of view. I'm saying to the OP that story arcs are complete stories. You are telling me that story lines are never-ending plot threads. Issue 6 - "Along Came a Spider" - October 27, 2005 City of Heroes CCG - January 2006 - (discontinued) February 2007 Issue 7 - "Destiny Manifest" - June 6, 2006 Yes. Exactly my point. A story arc is a complete story/arc. There can be more added to anything, but the story arc itself is a complete storyline. Beginning, middle, and end - unto itself.

Of course they could go with the classic. You can pick and play any Marvel character (if you pay to unlock it), but you can't see anyone else playing the same character. Also any player can only see the nearest player that playing any character that they aren't playing, and all other players playing that character can't be seen. You can't invite any duplicate characters to your team, but once you do invite a character to your team that is the only version of that character that you can see. It would be interesting to see which character couldn't find a team because there are too many duplicates. it would also be interesting to see what the standard team turned out to be. (I'm assuming plenty of Hulk, Thor, Spiderman, Captain America and a handful of X-men to go around) Now rotate which version/costume of the character is "unlocked" say for each 3 month period and then make the player buy (perma-rent) the version/costume of the quarter if they want to keep playing that character(s). Heck, why not make the player pay for villains to fight. Yep. Pay for villains to fight and then when you make a team things happen randomly based on what villains people on the team have unlocked. Well, semi-randomly. Random pick of villain or villian group combos and have prescripted events that go on in regards to those villains. Do they do something in the open world you have to stop? Do they come in attack you? Or do they simply try to kill off your NPC loved-ones!?! Wait! There is an attack located in [insert zone name here]! if you or perhaps someone on your team hasn't paid to unlock it, then you or your team gets the option to pay to unlock the zone or you simply lose that encounter. Now add in movie clips from the movies to eat up time as cutscenes! Make them like 5 or 10 minutes long. I'm tired and rambling...sorry...but I'm just seeing some kind of P2W fanboy of the year game if it doesn't take the same path as DCUO (which is still pretty much focused on how much cash it can drain from it's player-base through microtransactions)

The game has never released unfinished story arcs - that I know of. There are continuations of storylines at some points, but all storyline arcs are released as a whole and have a completion.

I hope they are, because I think the Homecoming DEVs and team has and is doing a great job. They are providing a game that I loved that was ruined by P2W and made it even better by many of their changes. I am very glad to be able to play CoH gain. Thank you, Homecoming DEVs and team.

If you don't blow off the first 50 levels there is tons of content. Not enough game content for you? use the AE and make your own in-game content for yourself and others ... or just play other people's AE missions. Uh, it took months for updates to happen before the sunset ... with paid DEVs. Updating doesn't happen every month in most games. Yeah, it's going to be a couple of months before another set of big updates. I don't want to be rude, but you seem to be a bit of a "flash in the pan" player. You are going to ... oh, look over there! Something shiny. You like shiny, don't you? You better go hurry and check out that shiny thing!

When windows 10 came out, Microsoft and Toshiba said my computer was compatible for Windows 10, so I upgraded and my system totally crashed 3 or more after having Window 10 installed for less than a week in most cases. After going through the pain-in-the-butt re-installs of windows 8 to 8.1 to Windows 10 all those times, suddenly Microsoft and Toshiba say my computer isn't compatible with Windows 10. So I have windows 8.1 installed at that point, but my hard drive is screwed. So I have to change the hard drive out (I put a second one in) and go through the whole process of reinstalling Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 again. And, after all that, Windows 10 apparently damaged my laptop graphics card. It would no longer play games that it used to play. It will load up and try to run City of Heroes and then die. Yep, Windows 10 damaged my computer. Any compensation from Microsoft or Toshiba ... forgetaboutit. So yeah, I wouldn't be rushing to install Windows 11 on a machine that had Windows 10 running on it. I fact both my Windows 10 computers are saying that they are incompatible with Windows 11. I'm in no rush to buy a new computer simply to have the new operating system. But I'm not going to move to Windows 11 until I buy a new computer that where Windows 11 is native.

Anyone willing to weigh in on my possible gaming PC choices?

Amazon has a couple of computers on-sale today as well. -

I think my "shine" and your "shine" are entirely differently. I don't have a character conception currently to match a spines/fire. It would be sacrilege to make the Burning Bush! And I don't think I would want to play the Fiery Porcupine. The first CoH character I made was a Spines/Regen scrapper. Wasn't my first 50 back in the day, but they did end up making it to 50 before the sunset.

Try to post your links again. I would try https://www.cyberpowerpc.com/ and see what they have ... Black Friday deals are up on their website. My cyberpowerpc has done fine by me and has a lot of MSI parts. MSI sells their own computers as well - https://us.msi.com/ - also having Black Friday deals up. Whatever you chose, I would make sure that it is Windows 11 compatible to get the longest life-span out of it. -
An Issue of Defense (Force Field suggestion)
UltraAlt replied to Faeriemage's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
This is somewhat wrong as far as I understand it. If you don't have Resistance against a certain damage type it doesn't help at all. If you have resistance against something, you always get the resistance. It mitigates the damage. Your resistance can be reduced by -res debuffs. Resistance is mitigation. Stops spike damage most of the time (snipes and nukes aside) Defense is avoiding being hit. Susceptible to spike damage when fails. You will note that most tank armors are resistance versus defense. Tanks are intended to take damage/attacks from multiple foes. Those with defense are generally meant to fight single targets and/or fight from a range. The more targets you fight, the more likely they will hit you. Not being able to be 1 shotted doesn't stop the next attack from going through nor does guarantee you time to heal yourself before the next attack hits you. They don't play the same. If you play a defense-based character like a resistance-based character, it is going to fall. You can play a defender the same way you play a stalker and expect the defender to do the kind of damage that a stalker does with an assassin strike, you are going to be disappointed. Apples and Oranges? Yes. Resistance and defense are "apples and oranges". You can't make an apple pie with oranges. Certain power sets, power picks, and enhancement slotting are prefered by a player-based on what works for their playstyle and what is enjoyable (usually based on their playstyle). What is "better" for one isn't necessarily "better" for others. I don't have any sonic bubblers. My bubblers are all forcefield. Are the thermal "bubbles" better than the sonic? What about the ice "bubbles"? Just because they don't look like bubbles doesn't mean that they aren't defense or resistance applied by one character to another. It seems to work fine for me. Bubblers are great for keeping a team from falling while leveling. Are you an "end-game"-only player? There are alot of sets with redundant powers. Note you are talking about using two powers that both have a chance to make it so that multiple enemies can't attack when they are affected by the power until they can get back on their feet. This can be very powerful in gaining time so that the rest of the team can take out enemies. It's a matter of playstyle and what you enjoy playing ... and even more critical to me - character conception. Sounds like a different power set to me. A "bubbler" powerset based on Absorb barrier would be interesting as an additional powerset, but not as a replacement. Force Field is "classic" City of Heroes powerset. I would not like to see it significantly changed to the extent that you are suggesting because of that. I guess you haven't played on teams with multiple type bubble/shield stacking with characters with group heals. Well performed teaming can greatly act as a force multiplier. A "team" of players playing solo don't take advantage of this and often think that powers are weak. I don't play with you or your teams, so I don't know what you are doing, what your teammates are doing, what power sets you are running with or what archetype mix are in the group. I know that when I'm playing, I am always looking for ways to use my powers to augment the other players even if they are not trying to work as a team. This is to say, even if they aren't bothering teaming with me, I'm trying to team with them. I spend spend probably half or less of my game time running duo's. The other player has focus issues. To try to keep them focused I let them pick who they want to play and then I pick a character that has powers that will augment their powers, grant me some level of survivability, and, hopefully, with a character conception that would make some sense for them to be teaming together. And that's more or less my point. Playstyle and working as a team can surpass what is seen as a flaw by those that aren't willing to change their playstyle and/or work as a team. I don't any of the bubble/shield sets need to be changed. Players just need to learn how to adapt to their differences. Players play styles, teaming experience, and personal preference influence their power picks, how they interact in the game, and how the team's powers interact during combat. There is no reason to tweak powers because players with a certain playstyle play a powerset less than others. We don't need to have an "invasion" of something to prove that something is good. Anything that is going to cause an "invasion" to a power set means that it is OP/flavour-of-the-month. I don't think that there is any reason to do that. How about make a new shield/bubble powerset based on Earth? You get rock encasing that is ablative/absorb versus the other bubble/shield powers? Could you work with that? -

1) Document. Take screenshot(s). 2) Report. Provide your screen shot(s) along with the perpetrator's character name and what server they are on. Not a bad idea to get their global and provide it as well 3) Ignore. So. Get screenshots of of the in-game text/chat window. Menu>Support>Harassment and Conduct Place the character/player on global ignore. Shake and repeat. Every time the player does it, go through the process. The more reports the DEVs get; the more likely they aren't going to be able to harass people any more.

It can't keep up with the "get all Inf" as it is. The market can't keep up with more than around 30 things at one time. I don't complain about it. I'm not complaining about it. I'm not trying to make a big deal out of my marketing. I'm just trying to say that "I" don't think it need to be automated. As someone said something like it before :: Don't make me "automated". I do see it as the equivalent of being able to set our character on "attack only minions not more than +1" with a marco to that follows an power execution sequence. I also see DEVs taking time to create macros that would do this to be a waste of their time. That's my call and my opinion. I don't feel it to be weak at all. I didn't feel like I needed to go into any greater detail. The game always had /e or /em, as you say, as a macro for emotes, so I don't see that as any kind of valid counterpoint. So maybe I'll put it another way. I'm an EBIL marketeer. You really don't want to make it easier for me to utilize the market.
