I would definitely like to see more Summer Blockbuster type content. could add as a side mission type inside of PVP zones. Villains get the options to rob a bank or what not. If they do the alarm goes off and heroes get to respond. Could door lock it to only allow an equal number of heros to enter to match the number of villain in the mission. .... of course, once villains are outside and trying to get to the getaway point .... Feel free. I'm not going to accuse you of something simply because you make ungrounded attacks against me or try to insult me. Villains going to villian.

back before the Sunset, sometimes GMS would puppet/play Giant monsters or AVs and spawn them in Atlas on top of City Hall. I always thought that was a good time. I would, however, like them to appear at a zone gate and then travel to a given point on the map (any map and not just Atlas - there is usually a spot where this kind of thing happens/people congregate for this kind of thing). This gives some more action to it and gives time for players to respond before the target Giant Monster/AV(s) lock down to a certain spot. No flaw in thinking. I play on all the servers. I play heroes mostly, but have like 5-8 Rogues (which mostly end up playing heroe side when I do run them). I know I'm in the minority. The majority seem to be those that run one MAIN character possibly with some alts. Fewer are those that really alt out and don't really have a MAIN character, but do have a MAIN server. Fewer still are those that make alts on other servers and jump servers daily. Honestly these players most probably have a main server as well. (I have to admit that I do) No one is trying to "push" or force anyone anywhere. Suggestion was that if players are having a hard time finding other villains to team up with then perhaps calling a server the unofficial Villain server would allow players that want to play villains a target server for grouping up for that kind of game play. No forcing. No pushing. No dragging. No forced imprisonment on an "unofficial" server. No forced removal from a server due to gameplay choices (I would be kicked off the PVP server as I haven't PVP'd on that server yet!) But you see, that is the root of what we are talking about here. Making a suggestion isn't taking away anyone's choices. Some arbitrary group of players that decide that they have made the final call on something doesn't mean that they are allowed to impose their view on everyone else (unless they are the DEVs of course and to some extent GMs). I have not called for locking down any server to Hero content only. I haven't run into anyone posting about doing that. Most of the most - let us say - impassioned people against what they they consider to be villain segregation (I really consider it to be consolidation for mutual advantage and my opinion is my opinion just as much as they have theirs) are acting like that is what is being called for. Some kind of forced removal of villains to a server. That is a huge and unfounded conclusion based on my post. It's knee jerk and extremism. I'm sorry, but it's true. Just because people moved villains to an unofficial villain server does not necessarily mean that they will bring all their characters with them. The Heroes would still have plenty to game with where ever they were. Other heroes are not going to move to another server simply because you moved your villains there. Characters can also move back and forth across servers (possible naming issues being the only reason not to do this) I'm assuming a lot more than did on live when CoV was first released. I know I felt like I should explore the content since I was paying for it. I can't remember for sure if I was leaning towards buying CoV or until it meant that I had to buy it in order to have access to Hero Bases. Since I had bought CoV (for hero bases), I felt like like I should explore the content. I like playing heroes more than villains. I enjoy playing villain content more than playing Praetorian content (and I know that there is a lot of Praetorian content shoehorned into to hero and villain game play at this point.) Initially, I really had issue with the villain content because I had set my Logitech game controller up for City of Heroes gameplay. CoV was much more vertical which meant that was having to take my hand off of the controller quite frequently to change viewing angle with the mouse. After the sunset, I ended up playing DCUO (DC Universe Online <-assuming I don't need to say this but just in case) which made me re-configure my controller settings completely. When I started playing on Homecoming, I rebuilt my City of Heroes controller configuration based on some of the ways I had set up my controller to play DCUO (mainly camera control) This may negate some of the reasons that I probably didn't enjoy villains as much. Plus, I'm not really villain oriented to be honest. you can look on the server page https://forums.homecomingservers.com/status/ and see the population broken down at any given time (oh, the number difference in the totals .. that would be the Praetorians that don't get their own column listing).

I'm not into thread necromancy

Then as the 2nd poster suggested the villains could congregate on (one of the more) populated servers (Excelsior or Everlasting). Characters can pretty easily move from one server to another (other than the naming issue which isn't always an issue). I don't know if I would move either. At this point, most of the time and every day the villains have 1/5th the population on any given server. Oddly enough, right now Indomitable has 60 Heroes and 24 villains. Go Figure. If you want it, do it. Start organizing what you enjoy and bring in other by advertising special events. Set up regular game nights and play times when and where people can find you to enjoy what you enjoy doing. Create posts about it. Use the Clubs and Calendar options about under the browe menu. But for the love of Stan Lee quit complaining about not having other/enough villains to game with and then complaining when people try to help you organize larger groups of like minded gamers.
-
You might have a point about those yellow guys, but they don't complain about not having anyone to team with. Blue server? Ha. Heroes aren't complaining about anyone to team with either. Heroes get together to game with each other on every server. It's always the mopey villains complaining about not having anyone to team with. How they are so cool, but no one wants to game with them. "I'll turn on you and steal you blind in an instant! Why won't you be my friend? Here have a cookie. I promise it probably isn't lethal poison. No. Not that one. Take the one with skull and crossbones on it." Even try to say something that might be to their advantage and they attack it. It is what villains do. Can't help being villainous. Carry on with your bad selves in self imposed isolation.
-
Yes. Somehow making a suggestion on how people can get together to game in a way they mutually enjoy must be segregation. That is what segregation is all about. Obviously my suggestion somehow forces all villains to migrate to the "Red" server against their will. Obviously the "Red" Server is intended to be a concentration camp to purify the other servers of the villainous PCs in order to bring about Heroic Utopia on the other servers. It must be an ... what should we call it? A villainous plot to move cage all the villains into one Shard ... and then destroy that Shard completely to remove all villains from the City of Heroes so it can truly be what it is meant to be. I feel sad for all the RPr's that segregated themselves. So horrible that Tankers are segregated on Tanker Tuesdays! And the PVPrs must really beat themselves up about their self imposed segregation. Not to mention the Europeans segregating themselves simply because the server is in Europe. Horrible. It must be stopped! Friends should also feel bad about playing with each other as that is true segregation in its highest form! How dare people that are friends spend more time with each other than anyone one else?! Down with friendship, getting along, and enjoying other people's company. Horrifying. Best part of it is, while they are busy homogenizing into bland uniformity I can simply take over the market and make millions. Millions. And then Robots of course. Lots of robots.

seg·re·ga·tion /ˌseɡrəˈɡāSH(ə)n/ noun the action or state of people gathering to enjoy something that the group enjoys doing. "the segregation of gamers on game nights" I think that's Orwellian doublespeak.
-
? who is this this pointed it at? I guess it is just a general villainous reply. So I'm wondering how getting more villains to together to be able to team up with one another is somehow showing hatred of villain characters. Confusing, but I guess villains are like that. My supervillain group is on Torchbearer. Not that I play them that often. Not that I so much play ANY character that often. I'm too busy switching characters.
-
So which server IS the "RED" server? We have unofficial RP and PVP servers. We have the highest population server. We even have a european server. I keep hearing talk on and off about how the villain population is so small and so hard to find enough players or players leading villain task forces and what not. Perhaps if there was an unofficial "RED" server then there could be a higher population through condensing the existing villain player base. I know "crazy talk", "he's bonkers!", "out of this mind". Undoubtedly, there would still be more heroes on the server but what do you villians care about that anyway?! I would suggest the unofficial PVP server. There isn't much traffic there. Should be good for connection speed, plus if you are a villain and want to beat up (player character) heroes, well ... isn't that where you would find them anyway? Just more mad rambling on my part, because, you know, that's what I do.

Alternate Archery/Trick Arrow Power Customization - Ninja

Oh, nice. -
Nothing can one shot you in City of Heroes if you are undamaged as far as I know. Go to full health and jump off the tallest building (walk off backwards to get the rush of seeing the windows passing by). You will have one hp when you hit the ground regardless of how many hit points you had to start with (sure you might have more left if you are level 50.) City of Heroes was designed as team game. Though things have been added to make soloing easier, there are some archetypes that are at a disadvantage when soloing and you are playing one of them. Join teams or recruit people for your team in the LFG channel. People aren't always recruiting and you can't always get someone to join your team, but teaming is more fun and you are more likely to survive with teammates around.
-
Defenders tend to be the weakest solo characters. I'm assuming you are typing about helping a team to fight AVs and not trying to fight them solo. If you are trying to build a Defender as a damage dealer, then you should be looking at other archetypes. There are a couple of different types of defenders. Like a blapper, building a defender as a damage dealer is really pushing against the archetypes strength. Depending on the power sets and powers from those sets chosen, defenders can ... Heal a team Protect a team Buff a team Debuff enemies If you are going to solo, then you should probably focus on sets and powers that debuff the enemy. I say this as most heal, protect, and buff powers are primarily for teammates and not the defender themself. Aspect of solo versus team, it takes just as much endurance to heal, buff, and defend a full team as one that only has one other character in it. It generally takes more end to use powers that will be able to affect your solo character, which most of the time would also be able to affect all your teammates as well - as indicated - for the same amount of end. I would say that Bubblers (any type of shield generation) and Empathy (true healer) are probably the most team focused. I'm a character conception oriented player. If you aren't going to create a character with a conception in advance, I would pick up a set and try it out and pick powers that you think are interesting and learn how to make them work. That is to say, don't pick a power and expect it to do X, but figure out what it does do and how/when to use it. Sure, X can be a good place to start, but taking time to figure out when best to use a power based on what it does, recharge time, and what other players on your team are doing can make a big difference. I have my most fun with a defender when I'm on a big team and healing/buffing/protecting my teammates.

Yeah, well. They were buying int from someone selling cheap enough so it was around the cost to make and selling them for 4 mil a pop, so ... and not just a few ... a lot of them. with all the gold farming going on people didn't know the worth of influence there toward the end before the sunset. So much better here a Homecoming
-
I know a guy that gave up making these because they were so cheap to buy them off the market that it made no sense to bother making them. And, yeah, he was making about 40x what he was buying them for on each one sold. I don't think you were cornering the market the way that you thought you were. Just saying...

They aren't called Support because they supposed to be team based. City of Heroes was built on always running with a team. They are support because they aren't primarily damage dealers. Instead, they are built primarily to mitigate in one form or another (be that, healing, holding, buffing, debuffing, shielding, immobilizing, slowing, etc.). Solo game play components were added later as there are a good number of people that solo. Changes were made to all ATs in regards to soloing. All ATs should be able to solo at this point. There are ATs that solo better than others for obvious reasons. The fact that someone that can mez someone is less resistant to being mezed than a melee character is silly to me. Why is a melee character immune to a mental attack that hypnotizes them? I understand absorbing damage, but being held or immobilized? Just doesn't make sense to me. (It seems to be the only reason is that it is frustraing to the player playing a melee character and they rage out more about it than a non-melee player) I could go into this more with stories of CoH PVP history, but that is not really want this thread is about, or what I'm replying about. All Archetypes perform better when they work in synergy with a team than they do when solo. Melee archetypes and blasters (and the like) are damage dealers. Support archetypes are force multipliers.
-
I didn't say never to attack. I said to target through the tank or a melee character. This will tend to keep the agro on them when you do attack. It helps blasters keep agro on the damage absorbers as well. Melee characters have built in agro drawing components that can overpower the agro of agro caused by damage alone. I will state it again. The purpose was to help a player that was having issues because they were falling frequently in combat, and I was providing them with ways to help decrease or eliminate these defeats during combat. I have been on more the just RO teams in the past as well. I'm not sure of your intent in stating this. So maybe I should say, I've been in other super groups as well as gaming with the RO teams and PUG teams. In addition, I have been in set teams that aren't all from the same supergroup but band to together on one night or another. I also used to attend Tanker Tuesdays. And again, I don't know what the point is of saying this or how it is related to a player that is having issues as a Defender being defeated more frequently than their team mates or giving them valid suggestion on how to mitigate them falling in combat. /emote facepalm

I would think it would be more likely for us to see these then new power sets. I'm saying that because animations that could be used across multiple power sets would be just that. Useable by multiple power sets versus just one. As only using optic blasts as a stand-alone super-power is so closely linked to Marvel's Cyclops of the X-men, I'm sure that is one of the reasons that Cryptic stayed away form it. The same probably for the chest blast which is often linked to Marvel's Iron Man. That being said, being able to blast people with ice and fire (looks like fire) from the eyes or chest really shouldn't have any copyright issues (versus say a Cyclops' concussive eye blast (laser like, energy damage w/knockback), Kryptonian heat-vision (laser like, fire damage), Iron Man's chest-mounted repulsor blast (energy damage w/knockback), etc.) I'm not sure what attacks from the head would look like. Are you talking out of the mouth like the breath fire attack? or?

How do you use 2XP boost from the P2W vendor?

It's pretty much what I expected as well. I have a couple of poll ideas and I thought this was a good place to start from a community involvement standpoint. -

Make sure to vote in the poll. Thanks! -
You know - you could post your own ideas instead of tearing apart what you don't like about what works for other people. All these things work for me. They are all valid in game play. If you don't understand how to break Line-of-sight to lose agro (move agro to your teammates) or how to fall back to string out enemies to make them easier to defeat, that's on you. The tactics are valid. If you want to face plant. Feel free. That's not the way I like to play.

Yeah, well. Works for all support sets. Is this Monkey? Yeah, I was a Repeat Offender as well. If you have a good group going then all support teams are great. You know PUGs can be a mixed bag. Playing with those that are you are used to gaming with is very different than teaming with people that you haven't gamed with before that are joining with whatever level and preconceptions that they may have. Some may not understand what is going on and decide that they know better for whatever reason and sometimes try to talk big to show how tough or knowledgable they are. We all react to this in different ways. We can accept it. Learn from it. Disregard it. Simply leave. Use ignore. This thread is old, so I think at the time I was replying someone that was getting killed a lot as a defender and that tricks that I posted do help keep you alive as a defender if you are having issues falling in battle frequently. I labeled these as tricks and not rules. There is a difference for sure. Using a melee character as a meat shield is no different than using a wall as a shield. If you can use something to take the agro then you are playing smart and not being a child. if you are playing smart to avoid falling in battle, you are not behaving as a child.

A cool power, but can be horrible on a team. I rarely take it. Meanwhile, in a "Kill All" mission somewhere in the heart of Pargaon City ... "Where is the last guy in this mission? We have been all over the place," types out frustrated player. Everyone turns and looks at the controller that has been casting telekinesis on every other group during the mission.
-
I get these on Controllers for sure. (Don't play my doms enough...or really don't pay attention enough if I'm playing a dom half the time to think about if I have the AOE hold for them or not) * It's an "Oh, guano!" power. When the team gets in a bad situation. I fire off the AOE Hold and fall back. Sometimes it is more than enough to turn the tide of a battle that is going south. I generally only use it once or twice during a mission due to the end expenditure. *So many characters, so much character/server jumping!
