Any teaser what is being worked on? (archived)
GM Crumpet replied to Troo's topic in Open Beta Testing
PA things? Phantom Army? -
I have aspergers and find if someone shows me I get it really quickly. If someone gives me a book on how to do it I'm no wiser once I finished. Presentations with slides and examples works, but again it's the visual thing with actual pictures of what I need to know. Working security we generally have visual aids and practical training. It's all in a folder for easy reference, but I mostly use it for door and alarm codes in rarely entered areas. I learned everything I needed to learn following an experienced guard round and watching what he did.

Why was Statesman killed off again?

I generally wear a hazmat suit or morph into an avatar that floats. I don't trust the floor in Pocket D

I noticed I have my builds posted in various places and thought I'd put both of them here so if get asked for a build people can find it easily. I started with Dooms builds as a foundation, then tweaked them for my own play style, then Laucianna laughed at my terrible slotting and helped me to reorganise things so I wasn't an embarrassment to the Kheld community 😛 Just kidding, Lauci was absolutely awesome and didn't laugh once 🙂 These are my builds, and they may not suit you or your play style, but they are a good (if expensive) start and you can change them to your own personal preferences. CityBinder for Homecoming v0.1 is out!
GM Crumpet replied to Tailcoat's topic in Tools, Utilities & Downloads
Why have I only just noticed this? I'm regularly asked about binds and macros and I'm pretty lost when it comes to making them!!- 26 replies

I think Jack fell into the trap of assuming players would play to his expectations rather than do what players always do and that's go off piste at the first opportunity and break anything that's breakable. That's one of the reasons we (and other games) love players who take part in beta testing as they often find massive bugs and exploits the devs never even noticed or considered. He also failed to understand his audience. Nerds will nerd. Nerds want to know every little bit of information and will make extensive studies to work out exactly what "average" means and how much better "superior" is. I'm a geek, I am very interested and excited with the genres and franchises I follow and can talk passionately about them, but I'm happy to play a game and don't care what's under the hood. I'm Jacks audience 😛 Even as a GM I'm not very up on the mechanics of the game. I'm great at the social aspects and the helping stuff, but ask me why your powerful PC with awesome graphics card and huge memory is running like a snail on a railroad track I have to pass it to the nerds on the team. They are far cleverer than me. They do the hard work while I sit at the back of the class with the safety scissors and glitter making fridge pictures 🙂 And just to clarify, I'm not using the term nerd or geek as a defamatory term. To me geek is a person deep into the fandom and knowledgeable about the lore and collectibles, nerds are the ones with the brains that need to look behind the curtain and see how things work and ask the difficult questions on the mechanics of things.

I don't blink. Well technically my inner eyelids flick across my eyes occasionally

Wouldn't know as I can't stand the 4 star stuff. Aeon leaves me cold and I'd rather eat pineapple on pizza than do ITF

Not sure what the figures are for AV's, all I know is they go down like a stunned zebra if you have some good support characters in the party. Kin, Rad, Darkness etc all help immensely when you are fighting the really tough people.

I'm in the UK and it's something that doesn't work for me and never has. I've reported it a few times so chances are it's not an easy fix.

You know I can delete your posts and ban you from the forum? That would be rude 😛 -
Usually you need to log out and reboot your PC and it fixes it. If the map is corrupted and you still can't load in then open the launcher and click the three little dots, then verify. If anythings corrupted that should fix it. If worst comes to worst try reset graphics on next run. Saying all that. It might be an old version of Vidiotmaps. We had a big problem with Bricks a while back due to the vidiotmaps wanting terrabytes of memory to load so it was crashing. Removing the old vidiotmaps and using Michiyo's modder so the vidiotmaps was up to date fixed that.

I know what you mean. I had so much trouble when I was leading leagues in the Mapserver event. One league, great fun and everyone was having a blast and getting amazing rewards. More than one league, so much lag you'd be lucky to get a couple of bars of XP. Despite me telling new leagues to go elsewhere on the map everyone insisted on staying at the spawn point near the base portal as that's where they zoned in. A soon as I used incan on my league to go to the other side of the map it was awesome again. Eventually with 2 days to go people finally listened, but it was like herding cats for the first few days. Even then, "Everyone concentrate on the GM please" fell on deaf ears half the time. I know debt badges don't earn themselves, but there's a time and a place 🙂

The main problem I think is the motel. If people ToT elsewhere I haven't seen the same problem. Kallisti Wharf does it at a building with 8 doors and there are normally enough players and enemies that moving from door to door doesn't really hurt with the door cooldown too much. I've also done it in RWZ with the same effect. The best part of KW and RWZ is they are co-op zones so heroes and villains can league together without having to go see Null and change alignments. Some players are against that for RP reasons. Even in PI there are plenty of streets with doors each side that are god for ToTing. I think everyone is just used to the motel as it's a convenient spot everyone knows. I'd like to see league leaders think a little outside the box for PI next year 🙂

Sadly there are a lot of players who pass and are mourned by their friends and family and we can't memorialise them all. Those who have been memorialised (both on live and Homecoming) were people who worked above and beyond to make the game better for other people. If you see a memorial character know that they were extraordinary people in life. For those who loved them it's a small reminder when they see them that they are gone but will never be forgotten.

Better we get 10 reports that turn out to be legitimate players than miss one that is a scam artist. Our priority is player safety and we encourage people to report odd behaviour. 99% of the time it's nothing and we thank the player for being vigilant. 1% of the time it's something we are glad we have been made aware of and can take action against. I've seen legitimate players who I've known for years suddenly exhibit odd behaviour and most of the time it's a family member/ room mate who knows the login details and decides to be a bit of an idiot for funsies. A quick warning to the player to change their password and all is good again.

We have discussed this issue extensively amongst the GM team. It's a difficult one to adjudicate. If we ban the players from the game until the event is over we get accused of GM overreach. If we kick them they come back. We do release pets on obvious offenders, and apologise if we accidentally do it to the wrong player, but for those who don't want to join a league and aren't AFK we can't do a lot as they aren't technically breaking the CoC. What I do as a league leader is Incan to another location. The motel in PI is a great place, but there are streets with plenty of doors in a line to click. In Kallisti it's less of a problem for some reason. I've run a number of leagues in Kallisti and the differences are remarkable. It's also easier to spot AFK players who aren't contributing. We have this problem every year and I think moving forward league leaders need to rethink the location of ToT activity. It's only a major problem at the motel. Going onto the streets might be a better idea.
