I don’t really like patron pools. I don’t like having to go red side to unlock them and I don’t like the Arachnos themed pets. I took Soul on my Dark/Dark controller because there is no dark equivalent APP, but he’s a hero and it was all ‘out of character’ in order to unlock. I wish Patron pools were just available like APPs, and the story arcs were just optional content. Also I would love more APP choices in general to keep up with all of the proliferation of sets. For example a Rad APP for Defenders could be possible now with new rad sets like Atomic Manipulation, Radiaton Melee and Radiation Armour.

It’s always been like that, but it does mean it’s easy to tell when Achilles heel procs! The -def/-res markers are not always as universal as you might expect.

Yeah we aren’t going to agree on CM. I’m not saying it’s useless but there are lots of times it doesn’t bring as much to the team as other choices. It’s like resurrect and vengeance. I’ve ran whole TFs where no one has died, but then I’ve ran into situations where they’ve been awesome. Yet more people are willing to skip resurrect than CM, whereas in my experience resurrect can be really handy at keeping the team’s momentum up. Again it comes down to who you team with and how. My husband has just rolled a blaster and if I start duoing with him a lot than CM will become super awesome. Whereas when I played mostly solo or in large teams it gave very limited benefit in my experience.

I suppose I’m looking at it from a different angle. If a squishy gets mezzed in a team of 8 there are still 7 people fighting and so even though it’s annoying for that 1 person it doesn’t effect the team too much. The longest duration mezzes are sleeps and they can be broke by heals as well as damage. But in a small team if there’s only 2-4 of you it will make a much bigger difference if someone gets mezzed, and much more likely to result in deaths and wipes. I mean it depends a lot on the circumstances but certainly this is the type of thing I consider when trying to weigh up CM in my build, especially when it’s competing with other ‘nice to haves’ like vengeance or victory rush, etc. It’s a bit of a judgement call though and depends how you team, there is no clear right or wrong with regards to CM I don’t think..

Question about team size modifier
Peacemoon replied to qas_illustration's topic in General Discussion
Also if you step outside the mission and abandon it you can restart it with a new difficulty, if your current one is too hard/easy. Best way to restart a mission is to set your active task to something else and then set it back again. I have sometimes always kept a low leave mission ‘on the books’ in order to facilitate this. 🙂 -
I think sums up the problem with traps for me, especially for Defenders. An AR/Devices Blaster vs a AR/Traps Defender I think I’d have more fun with the Blaster, and I usually prefer Defenders. Targeting Done and Field Operative might be less impactful to a team, but Force Field Generator and Mortor just seem like such a faff in comparison. The numbers might be good the gameplay feels awkward. I will give both a try sometime and see for real though.

X, Y and Z might miraculously appear as well 😉

There will be something in the latest page patch notes about it. Sorry my interest in traps is from a more general interest of Defenders and Controllers, not super familiar with the set itself, or Devices.

Clarion is mainly useful while solo as a squishy, because you don’t need to worry about mezzes. Unfortunately CM is not Clarion. When you’re in a team it’s a very different issue because usually the people who are being mezzed have their own protection. Not saying CM is bad or useless, but I’ve found it a lot more niche than excepted wisdom tends to say. Basically the more you team in small groups and with squishes the better it is. Bigger groups with melees present I rarely use it. Even the +perception - I bring that with tactics. Basically I probably will spec out of it eventually just to test this theory. At the moment I did feel quite compelled to squeeze it in.

That’s the problem with a negotiation without a deadline, nothing much happens. Whose interest is it in for the talks to be delayed. Them or ours? In a way we get to keep playing while a decision is made. But on the negative without that security it hampers peoples enthusiasm to put in loads of dev time surely. If HC got the green light legally then I think it make a huge difference on how we feel about this game.

I don’t have a quote but I think it was made uninterruptible?
-
Nerf Rest, it’s the most powerful debuff ingame!

I’ve seen you using these macros in game and did wonder how you did it! With the little boxes that get filled as your team fills? It looks very slick.

True and CoH has such fun gameplay, it’s quite unique really and with so much customisation. Maybe if there was an agreement with NCSoft there would be more appetite for doing bigger projects for CoH. I think while things are up in the air there are limits on how much we can expect. What I love about HC is it feels like a community endeavour. It feels very different from the usual corporate setup for a MMO, I don’t know if anyone else feels that?
-
You’re right Troo, I suppose I meant new TFs and zones and stuff like that, rather than new features per se. Everything HC has put in the game so far has been amazing, didn’t mean to sound negative or ungrateful!

I don’t know why the numbers are inferior for Defenders. The Defender version should be doing more damage than the controller version. It might be worth submitting this as a bug as it wouldn’t be an intended balance decision. Speaking of damage, my biggest gripe with Traps is that Trip Mine and Time Bomb both focus too much on damage. Traps is a support set. Damage is useful of course (see Lightning Storm) and valid for trips and bombs, but I am always surprised that they don’t do more in the way of debuffs. It feels like they were ported over from /Devices without a lot of thought, and Devices and Traps ought to be 2 very different t sets. Another reason is Traps was originally a villainous set for Corruptors and Masterminds, I think? Which might explain the unusual focus on dealing damage.

I don't get why this is so much better than CO
Peacemoon replied to Warpstarr's topic in General Discussion
The sad thing about MMOs is when they get turned off you can’t play them anymore. My old favourite childhood games I can still load and play if I wanted. Like Streets of Rage or Sonic or Tomb Raider. When City of Heroes got shutdown it was like a little piece of me was stolen and I never expected to get it back. So even if you play mostly solo, an MMO going can be quite a sad event. Unless I’m misunderstanding the conversation! -
To be honest, how long are we all going to play CoH without any new content? I think we should be grateful we got this time to play again, it’s more than I ever expected. I also don’t see any advantage for NCSoft to speed up the talks. The legal costs are much more of a burden for our side than their side. We’re the ones that one want something. What is it that NCSoft want from HC? Assurances they will not profit? A share of any future income? I’m not actually as cynical as I might sound above. There is an opportunity here for NCSoft to get some good publicity with meeting fans half way, and healing some of the old wounds. And I still expect to be playing CoH on and off in 5 years time if I can ☺️

CM is a good power, but I still hate taking it because it feels so boring and of questionable use in a lot of situations. I have contemplated dropping it and if a blaster gets mezzed and dies occasionally then that’s a worthwhile sacrifice (not very empathetic mind!). I would say CM is very good in small teams where your teammates would rely on it. If you’re duoing with a squishy it will make a huge difference against some enemy teams. In large teams there is usually enough cover from melee or just numbers they it’s not necessary. Arguably there are other powers that provide greater utility and in more diverse situations. So it’s a question of priorities.

It’s one of the side effects of massive recharge bonus stacking. But to be honest it usually comes at a cost (in inf or not being able to slot something else) so I don’t think it’s a big deal. It’s quite integral to how your characters advance in CoH. Getting that recharge up is so fun.

Ever get complimented on your gameplay and it felt great?
Peacemoon replied to JnEricsonx's topic in General Discussion
Haha this could be true! At least I like to think of that on my controller! But for my main, a radiation defender, I tend to get the opposite of compliments. Rather than “oh wow your debuffs are great”, it’s tends to be “oh wow look how powerful I am! I never realised! No one is hitting me and everything dies! I’m unstoppable!” I smile and follow them quietly, letting them believe in themselves because I don’t want to shatter the illusion. Unfortunately sometimes they do run off and reality hits them hard 😛 -
If this was a different game I’d probably make some custom ui (like weak auras...) to alert me when I need to recast Hasten and Domination. TBH I wish some/all the Domination bonuses could be made baseline, and then after that is done make it so Domination recharge cannot be enhanced so it’s definitely temporary, and have it give some other bonuses.. Not sure a full rework is on the cards though 😛

No this was to bind the turning on of autocast, so there was no ‘power has not recharged’ message. Of all the techniques I tried, this was the one which worked the quietist. The only problem you have is if you aren’t moving it won’t alternate the autocast, but since I fidget so much with my character that was never an issue for me. The bigger issue was that I spam powers so much the poor autocast never got a chance to fire 😛
-
There is a post somewhere about creating bind files that let your movement keys swap the auto cast from hasten to domination and back again. It’s quite convoluted but effective. I reacted with a cry emoji to the original post because this issue with hasten and domination comes up a lot and really affects the AT. 😕

Sometimes the Game is Just Really Generous
Peacemoon replied to ImpousVileTerror's topic in General Discussion
I like the citadel TF that often has two missions back to back in the same door. I always make a joke about how THIS time we really will clear out the Council base, and people always fail to laugh 😆
