I rolled a Bio/Rad Tank (after reading the complete backstory, Controller might actually be a closer archetype), because as a casual kid reader in the early 70s, I remembered Swamp Thing as a tank-like antihero. He's now lvl 22 and pretty fun (and tough, through DFB, Posi1 and Posi2). About to move into the AOE section of Rad Melee, so looking forward to that, for sure. I don't mind the "Pigpen" cloud, as it fits the theme (I also took the "boils" body and roach travel auras and they're appropriately disgusting). My only disappointment, so far, is the Adaptive Carapace animation, which builds and breaks the entire armor set. Not really SWMPTHNG-esqe, as it were, but it's not a deal breaker.

Depends on how much driving you want to do. Autopilot? Probably Inv. Positional? Shield, for sure. Got enough time and influence? Rad can get there. Here's my go-to "Superman" build (no fly or LBE, however...as I love Melt Armor and single target hold - Char - for sappers). Classic Inv/SS. Good point but, ugh, I can't imagine wearing that ridiculous bio-armor animation around. At least with Inv, the effects can be muted, and can focus on the toon's looks.

This guy is a remake of my Live toon, by the same name (and I liberally borrowed...err copied alot of Sovera's builds). Even with Fiery Melee (kept the original secondary but Rad would be even better), he can tank 99% of content (needs Barrier for ITF with all the defense debuffs, and a little weak on E/N resists), but his regen powers through most everything else. I also have found great utility with the T9 power "Strength of Will" (that many skip) and I certainly couldn't pass on a power, that was named after the toon - Will Power-Flame :-). This is my "farmer" and he and a Inv/SS tank, on follow/afk with Foot Stomp on perpetual activation, can finish the Big Mobs Tunnel Fire Farm at +3/8 in <12 minutes. Can do it in 10, if the Inv has a driver. +4 bosses take alot longer to kill, and I've found that +3 gives almost as much inf and as many purple drops, so quantity over quality, at +3 for me. I also build all my tanks as leveling builds, so going back and doing TFs...all the way back to Posi1, is no problem. I'll second Shield/War Mace, just because you can take the SWAT shield and a police baton for the Mace. I played with a fully "kitted" out Shield/WM, with a complete police getup and he was a total beast in toughness and damage and looked the part, as well!

You can use a catalyst on a non-Superior ATO and make it Superior?

Again, I mostly tank, so not for a brute (I did roll a EA/EM broot, who is pretty fun and kinda tanky). If I wanted to spend a fortune on Mace to the Face, I'd start by upgrading the tanker ATOs to the superior versions (adding a few percentage points to all categories affected) and replace the Crushing Impact set and both sets of Multi-Strike with purple sets (Avalanches and Winter Sets), to *really* beef up his numbers. Having said that, even with yellow sets, he's running these numbers, without incarnates or accolades, so not really sure if spending another $400M would be worth it. It's a shield build so being (over) capped in Melee, Ranged and AoE Def is a given, already. Plenty of resistances to back them up, too 🙂

Here's my WP/Fire. He's a remake from live, so I ingore everyone who hates on fiery melee and yells; YOU SHOULD HAVE GONE RAD, DUMMY! He's a whole heck of alot of fun and, as Warboss says: "Nothing warms your opponent like fiery melee"...or something like that. He also is my fire farmer and can solo the "Big Mobs" tunnel fire farm in about 15 minutes (+4/8 no bosses, because bosses just take too darned long to die), and yet tank 99% of all the other PVE content. Not much DDR without Barrier, however, so ITF ain't his forte, but that's WP for you and why you have an Inv/SS in your stable 🙂 Hope that helps! I rolled one to try out Energy Armor on something other than a scrapper (even though I never rolled one of those, either...🤭). Not bad but, much like Dark Armor, I'm not a big fan of any powers that completely obscure the toon. It's pretty tanky, though.
