First, the fact, the vastly more important fact, which contradicts the call for a nerf ON THE BASIS that the game content is too easy when content is paired vs IOs , the fact that contradicts that is that the mission, the challenge could not succeed without heavy support Once it is established that uber builds with uber IO combinations cannot complete a challenge without support, then the whole claim that the game is broken due to IO sets being too powerful vs content is dead and defeated Even defense capped characters died. We even resorted to having some players die on purpose so we can cast vengeance The support team had to fill the holes that the enemy was making on the defenses/resists of the characters WITHOUT the SUPPORT anyone else was not accomplishing the mission That fact refutes the claim made.

The statement specifically said --> "Those games often don't have mitigation caps reached by their gear alone..." Gear in CoX is IOs. IN fact it is the only gear you have Those IOs you placed in your powers and they get slotted Sort of like you are wearing them, then. when you unslot them you don't "wear" them anymore That is gear THat's what I mean by it. So, no, the statement I quote is wrong. Power choices have to be made in order to reach that level
-
I have been saying this since the beginning. The challenges that players should face now is content. I just got done right now with another great SG/network run in AE. We did some very difficult content that without the support there, there was going to be massive wipeout, wipeouts of complete uber builds You know what held that task and made it possible ? The support characters with ZERO uber builds Two Defenders and one corrupter incredibly busy Now, did we have a strong challenge ? Hell yeah we did Was anyone nerfed during the game play ? NO !! Is it necessary to nerf anything in IOs to get a challenge ? NO
-
You are wrong if you think that only gear gets you mitigation caps. power choices are made.... to help get to the cap How many builds in COH don't take Weave or Maneuvers or something to help the IOs get them to reach a good sort of mitigation ? Oh, and yes, other games do have gear that provide some kind of mitigation specialty that you otherwise cannot get via power choices included The answer again to the state of being "too easy" is content content and more content, more challenging content, not nerfs, like other games do it normally.
-
If you read the facts I wrote about, you will see those are not opinions, they are indeed facts - games adding more challenging content as players/gear grow as a whole, as intended, as designed, in every game where gear is an important or integral part of the game. The fact that AE already poses major challenges to any build with IOs Those, among the others I listed, are not opinions. Those are facts.
-
I agree There is certainly ONE side who refuses to accept the facts and sacrifice the idea posted in the OP by admitting the facts presented. Those facts are irrefutable. The correct way to approach this issue is doing what all other games, where gear and level progress are an integral part of the game, do. That is introduce new challenges without nerfing what was already earned and achieved by playing a long time or doing whatever you had to do to reach your level of performance, using the instruments provided by game design and purpose. Now it is time for new challenges to be added, without nerfs. Again, just like it's normally done across other games. And, sacrifice a little ego and accept the facts that already the game provides challenges to any build that we may consider "OP", and it is done by players, and there is content outside of AE which can certainly pose a challenge to defenses, or permanent domination and so on, and many times those challenges are avoided. There is absolutely no need to call for nerfs when way better options, normal options for these types of situations come up in games with such design.

I agree with the sentiment and I also agree that tastes vary I agree even more that over 10 years with the game and the game is still way better FOR ME than other games having said that .. If the game/gear has become powerful and players are powerful ... THE CORRECT SOLUTION as done by other games, even the most successful of all games or MMOs, is to introduce new and more challenging content The incorrect thing to do is to nerf the players or their gear which is so loved and took a lot of work or time to get Right now players have already in game solutions to seek challenges vs IOs and their sets Right now there are critters to counter defense or permanent dom and so on and I mentioned only a few samples, not all of them So the OP is wrong, he or she is just wrong. The solution proposed is wrong He or she is not realizing the other challenges that can cope with IOs that already exist in the game He or she is not advocating for newer or added content to present more challenges WITHOUT nerfing what already exists
-
This is exactly my feeling I agree 100% with @PeregrineFalcon I also wanted to bring out some facts that challenges even some of the feelings about IO sets, bonuses, and defense soft caps acquired via IOs ---> Soft cap defenses already mean little or nothing with faced with Devouring Earth and other critters Go ahead, place your soft cap character at +4 x 8 vs Devouring Earth, watch those evil little things get placed on the ground and tell me how your soft capped defenses saved your hide. Even Nemesis, when the vengeance has stacked, if they will hit my Widow which has defenses FAR FAR above the soft cap, and they can be a problem/challenge, especially at +4 x 8. To all perma doms - try going against Malta, some Malta bosses, SOME, will not be held even during Domination on your first attempt to hold them. I have verified this over and over. Malta again, some bosses will shoot right through your soft cap defenses and hit hard. I can go and on. The game has challenges and I know that even years ago fully geared players treaded very carefully vs those challenges in the game or they avoided them all together at +4 x 8 when soloing. So, again, infuse the game with challenges, NOT nerfs to the players or their gear. That's the correct solution.
-
If the notoriety option is to nerf players and their acquired gear, gear designed to work as intended, then that is the wrong solution, and, in fact, pretty lazy or inconsistent with what successful games do when faced with the situation I wrote about in my post above. The right solution is to present more challenging content. Players can already do this shift to difficulty. AE can present some real challenges to any build with any type of IO sets or bonuses WITHOUT ALTERING the notoriety system at all -- ZERO
-
1. I am not discussing the former. I am discussing the issue that the OP is suggesting the WRONG solution to a naturally occurring problem with every game of this nature where gear or team composition is acquired or achieved and takes on challenges presented by the game and the challenges then look too easy. The right solution is not to nerf what is already in placed as intended, as designed, as demonstrated in every other game with this same type of system ---> present higher challenges without nerfing what already attainable via hard work and lots of playing or whatever. 2. If game content looks easy because the team composition is just right or ideal, then you are wrong to say that you can abuse that system with such a team make up. The correct term is that the team/the game is playing exactly as intended. This is consistent with just about any other game that relies on gear and team composition to tackle challenging content. That's not abuse. That's playing the game as intended. 3. STOP advocating for nerfs to the rewards already achieved via gear or higher levels of progress. 4. Start advocating for new challenges that can present a challenge to those new levels of achieved power 5. Players right now can do # 4. 6. If players can do it, so can the Devs.
-
Players right now can create content in AE that can make very real and significant challenges to any build or any player that thinks his gear will allow him or her to steam roll through the mission They going to lear real quick that Mids Reborn and all those shiny IO sets won't save their hide at all If players can do this without changing anything in the code or changing the system , so can the Devs It's better to ask for new challenges
-
Which is why for the mean time we have SGs running content in AE , very difficult content, to have fun and meet new challenges And, it is also another reason why we should advocate and ask for more difficult content Right now you can make content more challenging without increasing the levels of the critters. I have many examples and I won't bore you with the list but about 3-4 days ago we ran a team from the network of players and we did some AE content that required very good support, buffs that are way beyond and over what IOs give you in order to do well, and you have to be tactically proficient too Players can do this If we can do this, so can the Devs I agree that it is time now to add more challenging content and you can do so now without increasing level caps for players or for the monsters or critters I do want to see less people asking for nerfs for the gear or builds More content is better and more fun and rewarding
-
Read my posts and see if you can catch something I already mentioned that would challenged any build relying solely on IOs/ or gear to steam roll through the content. Many players have already created lots of content on AE to challenge any build. WITHOUT making enemies higher levels If players can do that content, so can the Devs Any other game that has gear be a part of the game has introduced foes more powerful, abilities that are more challenging for players to deal with They have done so without nerfing what is already present.

New Notoriety Option: No Enhancement Set Bonuses

You get three builds for a character. You can easily fit a build with no IOs if you want. What I stated about intent I gathered from the post I was addressing I gathered that from some reasons expressed about the motives for wanting something like that. So I am not at all baseless in what I expressed Really, you want to play with no IOs, you already can and you can do so without any work done by the Devs for you to do that. The intent to make others in your team be as gimp as you is something I won't support , and, again, I say that from the stuff been said already -
Buddy, It looks like you did not understand what I was saying or the point I was making I do not support, I do not like at all that any player comes here to advocate or petition to the Devs that they get nerfed for getting the gear, the same gear that was designed to be a reward for playing and meeting challenges or otherwise Gear that is functioning as designed It would make sense and it would be logical if we asked for bigger and better challenges as logically other games have done so, other games where gear is a reward for progress or work or whatever What do other games do ? They increase the challenge Then your gear and your skills are put to the test even more Don't come here asking to nullify or nerf the gear Spend your time and energy asking for challenges in the game to meet a new power level that was earned or achieved as was intended to do so I play many other games and gear is a pretty BIG DEAL in those games Just go on to other challenges As said above, there are some AE missions that your gear won't save you if you think you are just going to steam roll them only because your gear is top notch Not even incarnates will save you if you think you have all t4 and it is going to be cake walk If players can create such content, so can the devs, and all of that ---->. WITHOUT NERFING the stuff already earned and worked for Get it now ? Get the point. ? @Heraclea said or stated this point or very similar JUST LIKE ANY OTHER successful and fun game has done where gear is a big deal -->. When the player's progress and their gear has elevated on par or beyond the current challenge, you bring additional content to the game that will challenge players WITHOUT nerfing what they already earned or worked for . Stop begging for nerfs

This is exactly what I wrote about in another thread The player posting started out by disguising his proposal He was talking about options he wants to play under and wanted the Devs to do it After reading further and further.... well, the real truth comes out The sentiment was that he/she wants to control the way OTHERS play when the options to play the way he /she wants are already there. NO, that's not enough , he /. she wanted the limitations FOR OTHERS I don't support this You play the way you want and I play the way I want

I have created missions in AE where if you go in solo and THINK that with your fully geared build will mow down the mobs... those missions will change your religion. The content I create is meant so that your team composition requires thought. Any solo character will have to be very cautious. That kind of content should be rewarded for doing. Other games, so many other games, where gear , the gear you have, can make your characters so so so so strong... that's part of the game. And you know how devs address that? By providing more challenging content with even bigger rewards NOT BY NERFING the very gear they have created to entice and award players for achieving whatever they have achieved by being with the game for a long time an getting all they need to get that gear If you want more challenge, go get it DO not put other players down Just advocate more challenges ON TOP OF THE ONES already in place and along with that, add more rewards When CoH was down I went to play other games There is a lot of content to challenge fully geared builds You can do that in CoH WITHOUT nerfing what is already in place AE is a good ground to explore Already we have some incarnate trials that cannot be "Mowed down" just because you have incarnates Some trials will mow you down if you just walk in there thinking your IOs will save you Focus on expanding and adding Do not focus on taking away

Also, there is a lot of content in AE missions.... content so challenging that it would make IO builds feel gimp as well The missions in those AE ones... they require good team composition Some players having all nice sets of IO bonuses... they would get pwned without a good team make up Just saying -
New Notoriety Option: No Enhancement Set Bonuses

But I already addressed all of that in a previous post I said there are teams that can be formed There are SGs. that. you can join There are networks even... I can go on Long before IOs came out, Repeat Offenders were making specialized teams Kins, Empths, Bubbles, sonics , and so on and so on Teams that could buff you so much more than IOs can do and ever will be able to do If you want that, there is a place for that But again, if YOU cannot afford IOs, or you don't want IOs , that's on YOU you can play the game as such But I see the intent is that this is not about you anymore This is about OTHERS This is about how you want others to play , especially in teams that you play in You don't like the awesome way others perform with IOs I support the idea as long as the intent is not about others ONce I see that this is more about you being concerned in how others have their builds... then I don't support it at all , not in the least I know we at Repeat Offenders have been playing with buffed toons long before IOs came out I am sure others can do the same IOs are not needed. I know But driving a bit too much how others play ... that I have a problem with -

But it's so much easier that if you don't want to play with IOs , just dont Don't play with any IOs in your build and you are done You don't need any Dev to spend resources or time for this You can build your toon the way you want If you don't want IO sets, don't have them You need a Dev to do that for you LIke I said in the post above , the intent I see here is that some players want OTHERS to be in their team and not allow them to have IO bonuses because , they feel that if they play with others who do have IOs then they feel too gimp or they don't enjoy the game ... whatever So they feel bad because of the performance of others. -

Just as I was suspecting You want to NERF other players, NOT yourself. You want to play with a gimp build with no IO sets so you want to see others in your team play like YOU choose to play for yourself or play as your budget limitations allow That's where I have a problem If you want to play with ZERO IO sets, fine. Don't You don't get to deny others of teaming because they have IOs Granted, I recognize that you would have a warning before joining I do see that But the issue here is that this is NOT about YOU wanting YOUR character to play with no IOs this is about you wanting others to play with NO IOs The intent of this is what I have a problem with I began playing the game in 2004 I have plenty of experience of what playing with no IOs is like But no matter how much time I have played , I will never support any motion to limit OTHERS in the way they play I play my way You play your way Leave it at that -

People can play with no IOs when and if they want They don't need a Dev to enable that If you want to play with only SOs, just go play with no SOs. You want to change that? Fine, put IOs when you want. Why you talking as if you ignore this then ?
