Focused Feedback: Badges
Shocktacular replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Yeah. I just ran an arc with 2 friends and didn't get it (ran Sister Solaris' arc for the Minotaurs and Cyclopes). What gives, devs? -
I've gotten some compliments on this one recently, so I thought I'd share; my ice/bio stalker Arctic Mist. Screen selection shot: Night-time shot so you can see the glowies 🙂: I can't wait for the winter event so I can get her a proper badge title (still enjoying the Halloween event for now)!

Which server?
-
What's your character's name? Is she a hero, villain, rogue, vigilante, don't-care?
-
I should probably reply to you directly, though, right? I don't want to hijack the thread or start an unrelated side-topic.

As you may have suspected, I was hoping you'd say something like that. 😛 The main thing I was thinking of was Decay/Rot (powerset suggestions: rad, zombies, dark [colored like dust or fungal spores], plants/thorns/nature and/or bio armor [colored a dead brown/black]). I thought about suggesting Madness, but you've kind-of got that covered with Night (esp. the Princess of Night *shudders*). I also thought of maybe a Wildness/Wilderness court (powerset suggestions: beasts, plants/thorns/nature, savage). If we had the wind control powerset, I'd suggest Tempest, but it feels a bit too limited without that (you could use storm, elec, maybe water, but there's really not much that fits thematically, although I suppose you could get creative with colors). I was also considering Dreams/Nightmares/Terror (powerset suggestions: psy, dark, illusion), but again the thematically-appropriate choices seem limited (ill/dark controller is AMAZING, though. I was thinking that and maybe psi melee and dark armor for the other one...). Mostly, I'm trying to work out a way to fit in as many powersets as possible (although you didn't say which ones you're already using or if there are others you'd like to work in).
-
Agreed! Are you going to add more courts as you go?
-
Oddly enough, I'm in the "accepting" category for brutes, but have a hard time figuring out why corruptors are a thing anymore... As far as "the brutiest brute", I'd like to recommend a rad/bio with damage and debuff procs in the DoT auras. You basically jump into the middle of a huge mob, beat up on the bosses, and by the time they're down everything else is dead. Seems pretty brutish to me: jump right in, kill EVERYTHING, repeat. I tend to view brutes as in between scrappers and tanks; less dmg than a scrapper (although that seems more and more dubious the more I play my scrappers) but tougher, and squishier than a tank but more dmg. That's one of the reasons I like /bio on a brute; you basically have a "tank mode" and a "scrapper mode" with the different adaptations. Brutes, to me, are a bit more jack-of-all-trades when it comes to melee, which I find quite enjoyable. If you need to tank, you usually can. If you're free to just go hit stuff, you do a respectable amount of dmg.

Ha! I actually got to donate this time! Keep up the good work, HC team! 😄

Okay, I just HAD to try my hand at this banshee costume. I looked up "banshee" on wikipedia and this costume is somewhat based on that (gray cloak, green dress, long hair, Irish-theme). The idea is that she looks mostly normal from the back, but when you see her face... HOLY $H17!! I used the fireflies aura for eyes in combat only in red for an extra bit of freaky when she's fighting. Costume file: bansheeS.costume Back, mostly normal-looking: Front, no aura: Front, with aura ("now she's pissed off"):
-
Thought I'd add: There are two of the backpack options (Apocalypse 2 and 3, I think) that look like air tanks, but they have the biohazard symbol on them. Can we get a plain version of these to use as breathing/SCUBA tanks?
-
So I was playing around in the costume creator again and I came up with this. I hope you like it! LostAtSea.costume
-
Has anyone else here heard good things about plant/savage? I don't play doms much, bit IIRC this combo is pretty sweet. Thematically, I suppose you could do a wild/feral creature and/or nature guardian type character
-
I never knew that! Thanks! Also, for anyone willing to share their costume awesomeness (or if you just like to play with the costume creator), there's the new Costume Exchange Warehouse!
-
If you don't want to have to wait for a request, you can show off costumes you want to share at the Costume Exchange Warehouse!

Finally, a male costume! I made this for a friend and he altered it quite a bit, so I thought I'd post the original here. skinned.costume I don't know why I chose a red skin tone for this one, but I think it looks decent. It's fairly generic, so tweak away! yellowholes.costume Hopefully, these will help get things started. Don't worry; I've got more 😛 I'd love to see what you guys have made just playing around in the costume creator! Do you have any costumes in need of a good home? Donate to the Costume Exchange Warehouse today!
-
Not my usual aesthetic, and I usually don't like to play characters that show this much skin, but I thought someone else might have fun with it. She has a pink Fairy Dust aura for extra sparkelz! gunbunny.costume Yet another costume in need of a a good home! mask.costume
-
Can you tell I like the Carnival of War mask? 😛 It may be hard to see, but she has the Tribal pattern on the pants and the Cybertech 2 top with arm tattoos. goldmask.costume Another half-and-half face. It's hard to see, but the webbing bits on the wings are dark red. goldskull.costume

I made this one for halloween based on the colors in the city windows during the Halloween Event, but didn't end up using it. FYI, she has the "bats" aura b/c spooky! Halloween1.costume Another adventure in the costume creator that I don't have a character for. I was trying to do a half-and-half look. blue and red.costume

I looked through all the threads in the "Art & Multimedia" section and couldn't find one like this, so I thought I'd make it. I often play with the costume creator, and sometimes I end up creating costumes that I like but never use (especially since, with one exception, I only play female characters). I thought it would be nice to dust off these costumes and share them so other people can use them, and I hope others will be inspired to do the same! For the sake of clarity, this opening post will contain instructions for saving costumes, uploading costume files, and using downloaded costume files. If the instructions seem a bit simplistic, please forgive me; my own experience with computers has made it quite clear that simple, step-by-step instructions are the most useful. I may later add pictures if requested. Also, I'm a Windows user, so I have little/no idea how this works for other operating systems (please help!). To save and upload a costume file to this thread: 1 ) Create a costume in the costume creator. 2 ) Beneath the color palette and the scaling adjuster, there is a button that says "Save". Click this button. 3 ) The creator UI will vanish and there will be a prompt in the upper left of the screen where you can give your costume file a name. Enter a name, then click "Save". Note: this window will also show the file path where your costume file is being saved. You may need this information for the next steps! 4 ) At the top of this thread, under the "search" line but above the bar that lists page numbers, there is a button that says "Reply to this topic". When you click it, you should get a text entry window with various editing options. 5 ) The text entry window includes a bar at the bottom that says "Drag files here to attach, or choose files...". You can then either a) find the costume file where you saved it earlier (remember the file path shown after completing step 3) and drag the file over to the reply window, or b) click "choose files" and select the file from your file directory (it's usually under C:/Games/Homecoming/Costumes ). In either case, the file will upload and you will see the file now attached to your message 6 ) When you've attached all the files you want to submit, click "Submit Reply" under the bottom right of the text entry box (please also include images of the costumes you submit, since the costume will not be displayed if you only upload the costume file). To download a costume file and open it in the costume creator: 1 ) Click on the costume attachment in a forum post. The download should happen automatically. 2 ) Go into File Explorer and find the costume file in your "downloads" folder. It should have a name that looks something like "CostumeName.costume" 3 ) Locate the "Homecoming" folder (usually under C:/Games ) and open the "Costumes" sub-folder. Make sure you can see the "Costumes" sub-folder in the navigation bar on the left of the File Explorer window. 4 ) Copy or move the file "CostumeName.costume" from the downloads folder to the "Costumes" sub-folder by dragging the file onto the "Costumes" folder in the navigation bar. 5 ) Start CoX and go into the character creation window. Select an origin (because you have to for some reason), then go to the "Body" tab. 6 ) Select the body type that matches the costume file. If the body type you selected doesn't match, you will be able to see the costume, but not load it into the costume creator. If this happens, go back to the body type selection screen and select the appropriate body type. 7 ) Go to the "Costume" tab. Below the color palette and the scaling adjuster, there is a button that says "Load". Click this button. 8 ) The costume creator UI will disappear and a list of file names will appear on the left under the header "Load A Costume". Select the costume you wish to load, then hit "Next" in the bottom right of the screen. This should bring the costume creator UI back up with the character model now wearing the selected costume. Whew, that was long! I'll post my first few costume files in the next post. Thank you for shopping at the Costume Exchange Warehouse! 😛

I'm assuming that the chest detail is some sort of custom design?
-
Okay, I had to take a shot at this one (pun intended 😛). That name was just too good to pass up. My first thought was "more color!" so I added a dark blue to the palette. I also wanted to put a pattern on the chain mail because I thought it would look cool. I'm not sure about the pattern on the bottoms, but it seems to match the top. The light grey/silver ended up being more of an accent color. I don't quite have the color balance nailed on the bottom from the front view, IMO, but I hope you like it!drawbackerx.costume

'Serve', huh? Is this a heroic character or a villain? Either way, a pissed-off waiter/waitress could be a way to go...
-
I've recently had fun with a rad/bio brute. It is slightly squishier when not using the defensive adaptation, but IMO that's why that adaptation power exists; so you can tweak your character to fit the situation. It can be a bit clicky because I rely somewhat on the heal power and absorb power to stay alive sometimes. I use mids, but I'm not too much of a min/maxer, so I'm sure a sturdier version could be built (with incarnate powers, I can usually run at +3x8 for solo missions. I could probably do +4x8 for most enemy groups, but I find that +3 is more efficient). The most fun part, however, is the DOUBLE DAMAGE AURAS! I put procs in them. 😄 Mostly, I just round up a mob or two, start hitting the bosses, and by the time they're dead everything else has melted. Actually, Irradiated Ground is technically a pseudo-pet which can stack TWICE in the same area, so it's kind-of like having a damage aura and 2 automatic PBAoE damage patches! I also have the tank version of this (bio/rad), who I play like a Brute. That one's tougher, but a little less damage.

Yes, I knew this much. Given this information, I'd recommend that OP switch out Superior Invisibility for Group Invisibility to get the stacking defense benefits. Since OP has enough recharge to have near-perma PA, Group Invis will be up all the time anyway (if stealth is a concern).
