auto-accept license and bypass cut scenes
Shenanigunner replied to Xaphiero's topic in General Discussion
This nudges against my suggestion to add key equivalents to the whole login procedure, so it could be automated/eased with local macros. It does not *seem* like that would be a difficult addition, and would enable/accommodate a number of collateral requests like this one. -
Gunner's Macro Management system
Shenanigunner replied to Shenanigunner's topic in Tools, Utilities & Downloads
That's another great approach, with only the downside that popmenus are a bit hairy to modify, manage and share. My approach is based on all the material and techniques I've developed for managing keybinds and might be more comfortable for anyone experienced with all that. But a popmenu-based system has exactly the advantages you note: it's inherently shared between all your alts, it can be 'self guided/self labeling' to make it easy to grab the macros you want, and (with a little bit of hassle) can be shared as a single entity. All of the above was an hour's work to suit my own tastes, approach and needs; if any second person finds it useful, it's a win. If nothing else, many players may find my "All right, here, dammit" macro useful: /macro_image Arachnos_Patron_ConeSlow "Tell Them Again" "s It's: /macro_image Teleportation_LongRangeTeleport Transport-Hub enterbasefrompasscode COSMICTRANSPORT-6608" -
Hardly anyone seems to have noticed it, so a little *bump* if I may... Any discussion probably better over there.

Reusing Old Systems: Paragon Points (No real money)
Shenanigunner replied to Replacement's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
A perfect, frame-able version of my annoyed contention that every update of the game has to serve this mega-max, end-content, numbers-driven power player... t'ell (or Terra Volta) with everyone else. I just suggest, humbly, that there are many changes that make casual playing more fun and engaging as well — but I know this completely baffles the MegaPowerMan set. -

I wouldn't be against this, even comments above and exasperation with eight world currencies in mind, if it's a fun, egalitarian, non-essential addition. That is, not yet one more thing for the mega-max players to co-opt and obsess over. Keep it... silly and amusing to even lowbies. -

And when has that ever mattered in these discussions? 🤣 -
Reusing Old Systems: Paragon Points (No real money)
Shenanigunner replied to Replacement's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I don't think elitism has any more to do with this than the other forty-'leven end-game 'currencies.' It just strikes me as (1) unnecessary; (2) moving in the wrong direction from simplifying the game economy; and (3) "Hey, it's there, let's do something with it!" -

In a more general sense, there are already far too many "currencies" involved in this gameconomy. I'd prefer to see them reduced (to Inf and Merits) rather than expanded. -
I guess my remaining thought is this: is the very subtle difference between a blurry, spinning alt and an alt surrounded by a blurry, spinning effect significant? That seems to come down to a very specific syndrome or reaction. Maybe there is a difference between 0.1% and a very small number of players who, to make it simple, shouldn't select a powerset or power that affects them this way. Not being in any way dismissive, but there really has to be some threshold, and it sounds like this might be below that. I mean... are people dumbstruck-terrified of fire going to ask that fire powers be redesigned not to show any?

I wish people would quit using that word. It's not even in the dictionary.

This evolved from the macro-building component of BadgeDRADIS and some investigation into the mechanics of macros. (I was disappointed to learn that macro definitions live with the character def on the server and are not in any way accessible for management, duplication etc. Another argument in favor of keybinds, which can be locally managed, but whatever.) This simple system — which, I apologize, does use keybinds at its heart but in a very sideways way — allows you to create, copy, duplicate and generally manage macros for one or all alts. And even pass along your cherished macro collection easily. It still falls short of the game-embedded system for creating and managing keybinds, but even as a Keybind Guy I use macros and see that they have a place in a complete UI. So swords down, macro mavens, I'm here to try and help! All you really need to do is DL the short guide and the text file below; the guide should take you right through to Macro Management Wonderland. The summary, though, is this: you put all your macro definitions in a k-yb-nd file and can then create each one with the press of a key. Since creating macros is usually a one-time thing for each alt, it's not something you want permanently installed or b--nd to your k-ys. So with two little permanent k-yb-nds — really, just two, and very little, and b--nd to a key neither the game nor any player in history assigns — you can switch modes from "Build My Macro Set" back to "Thank God I Can Play Without Any Of Those Damned K-yb-nds!" 🤐 Use is simple: The meta step 1 is to edit the GMM.txt file to contain all your macro definitions. You can even use more than one file if you have more than forty-odd macros or want to break them up by alt, AT, etc. Then it's press Alt+F12 to save your current keybind set. Press Shift+F12 to load the GMM keys. Press all the F keys (up to 46 of the 48, with shifts) corresponding to the macros you want to build. Press Shift+F12 to banish those awful binds and put the keys back to what God and Jack Emmert wanted. (Is that redundant?) But you can call them back in an instant. Voilá. No more endless cutting and pasting for every alt and change, or to store or pass along macro definitions. I've even preloaded the set with a few useful macros, including the Cosmic Transport one (with an enhancement!) and some costume-emote changes. Have fun! Gunner's Macro Manager.pdf GMM.txt

Just pulling a WAG out of... thin air, I'd bet it has something to do with player attention. Those who focus hard on the screen and activities are more likely to be affected; those who don't "embed" quite so strongly aren't. Not sure how easy/hard this would be to fix. To simply remove the animation or substitute another that's "good enough" might be easy; to make it selectable or make a whirlwind around the alt might be tougher.

Please have players zone in further from the portal in Oro
Shenanigunner replied to Excraft's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
+1 on this. I don't know how the code works, but a random/ordered grid large enough for 20-30 alts would be nice. Or, fun, anywhere on the plaza. In a related though, it would be nice if some of the redside portals didn't have mobs spawn within aggro range. Sharkhead in particular is hard to get to or get away from without a nearby mob getting all hinkity at you. -
Logitech keeps churning out variations that come nowhere near the mighty G15 and G11. The macro keys grow fewer and fewer and more and more awkwardly placed. I started with a G15, got a free replacement because of the key-wear problem, settled for a G11 for a long time... and watched mint and new ones exceed $300 on EBay. Finally gave up and went with a G110, which at least has a useful number of macro keys in a useful configuration, if only 12 and with primitive backlighting. Then again, I don't really care for RGB, so red/blue/blend is good enough for me. A keyboard is mostly a tool to me, so $200 for individual RGB backlighting isn't really worth another $150 or so. 🙂 But hard macro keys are essential to pretty much every task I execute, all day long. Sorry to see them fade away. Oh, and the Logi software is a perpetual headache. GHub won't find any devices on my system (a common problem), and the base Gaming Software is tricky to get installed right and then tends to bug out. I had to spend an hour today trying GHub again and then reinstalling LGS because it stopped recording key delays and other things. I have never understood how a company can get something right, and then spend years doggedly screwing it up.

Pretty sure 'von' just indicates nobility, not a specific rank; it means 'from' but when used in old-school German it meant (more or less) "from the noble family of" instead. It was both illegal and A Bad Idea to tack it on to your name, which is why pretentious folks of that era used the Dutch "van" instead — see Ludvig Mies, later Ludvig Mies van der Rohe. So "Baron von Schlumpfnagel" reads out as The Noble Baron Schlumpfnagel" which is still a bit repetitive but not quite as redundant as you make it. Like "The Royal Queen Elizabeth"... but then, Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth is just fine.

You're talking specifically about lighting up case elements? I guess it fits with a gaming enviro. OTOH, this is the first mobo I've ever had that had had onboard lighting and supports some mad feature control for it... but my case remains opaque, so I just disabled it all. 🙂 Keyboard color control would be immediately useful, though. If anyone made a full featured gaming keyboard that included at least a dozen hard macro keys (essential for me, in everything but gaming)... I'd be good for some game-based control.

FARMING Chat Channel Please!
Shenanigunner replied to PZephregames's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Yes. The idea that there might be two or three communities that would be happier each having their own adapted space is up there with eliminating all but the poweriest power sets. 🙂 -

Which is the usual argument against doing anything. "Can['t we all just get along?" Well, yeah, but my suggestions to create a power-gamer fork in the shards is largely meant to benefit them. If nothing but end-game content matters, give them the end game and lighten up the vibe everywhere else. But, no. I've stopped suggesting it in any form. I don't need to be told again that I want to ban players or something. -

All suggestions to give the power-gaming community its own sandbox are howled down... by, it seems, the power gamers. My working conclusion is that they just don't enjoy it without an audience. 🙂 -
IIRC, that method was suggested in the Prima guide for CoH. Add a letter - Doom becomes Droom, etc.

I seem to have had a very mild and 'calming' post deleted while some rather inflammatory ones remain. Maybe this entire topic should be closed or deleted.
