Character was reset...due to copywritten costume? WTF?
Shenanigunner replied to Niizzy's topic in General Discussion
While I've whipped up a few alts modeled on characters I admire, I was unsurprised and in no way angry because they got genned. They were mostly exercises in boredom and exploring the very limits of the character creator. I remain surprised at the players who think making a perfect [insert well known and copyrighted character here] is either... a good idea, even on the level of playing this game ("Heyyyy, lookit my Wolvie!"), or something to get angry about when denied. I'll take it as a sign of the player base growing rapidly again, which is a very good thing, and going through a period of low selectivity, which is not. -

Because, IMO, niche product that was never really the advantage for most users. Kind of a wankel: different for different's sake. I couldn't begin to list the various configurations of one-hand controls that have come and gone, most so wonky only a chimp trained from birth could use them, much less use them "better." The standard keyboard/mouse layout is a ways from optimal even for day-in, day-out use of computers, but it's pretty good, it's universal and it's cheap to replicate. For gaming, you either adapt YOU to that basic input system, or you adapt the overall control system to YOU, and it's evident that the latter solutions are very narrow ones, with any one rarely used by even a double-digit percentage of players. (I've been working in user optimization and ergo since long before it grew kewl acronyms and names. You'd be surprised how... cyclical a lot of it is. The stand-up/sit-down desk that made such waves ca. The Great Lockdown was invented in 1920...)

I'd honestly be the first to say there's nothing wrong with that. If you use nothing but the basic control key (movement/combat) there's not a lot that can be improved, other than nulling out other keys you tend to hit by accident.. (It makes me pound my head on the desk when someone says "I don't have time for binds" followed by "G'damn, I wish I could quit hitting [WRONG KEY] every time I do [OTHER KEY}"...) But if you haven't explored what some remapping can do to improve game "management" and non-control key functions... well, okay. I've never found the combination of motion device and buttons to be... effective. Even the two extra buttons on my Logi go largely unused, although I do map them to Travel/Stop for most of my alts. It's just the wrong combination of hand/finger skills when you can effectively put so much on the other hand. ETA: This includes use of such devices for productive apps as well (CAD, graphics, video edit, even office stuff). There are always... better solutions than two-upping one hand's functions. IMVHO. (Which did not and never has kept me from wishing a SpaceBall was a better control option than it actually was.) But then, if sensible ergonomics and optimal hand interface were given the time of day, laptops would have 10% of the market. 🙂

The quickchat stuff is just popmenus. Seems like those options could be easily... pop'ped. (Just a general mild rant, here, again, that some vast number of "Gee, I wish [something] could be added to the game"'s are a few binds/bind changes/popmenus away. Binds and pops represent about 99% of the "official" "default" "stock" "handed down from Olympus" UI. But some significant number of users put up with continual gameplay problems instead.)

Do we have a pop-menu for GMs?

I am baffled by this. -
Fun fact: there's no such bird as a seagull; at least none (other than Jonathan Livingston S.) named that. "Seagull" is a collective term for gulls, terns and other birds and all of the first are named "[Something Something] Gull." And "seagulls" are sneaky, nasty, loud, obnoxious birds who pick on each other and everyone around them, and you can't get away from them, even at the Rocky Mountains. As my dad used to say, "Leave no tern unstoned." But, kudos I guess to whomever came up with the thoroughly looney concept of Null T. Gull.

Nevering mind that this makes absolutely no sense — in game, real-world or in any Earth-analogue universe. 🙂

No. It's when the ornamental Renaissance filigree joins in that the party is over.

Cecil Adams once described D&D as "combining the excitement of reading the encyclopedia with double entry bookkeeping." Every fretful discussion of The Holy Numbers here brings that to mind.

Which is why the 'Exit Mission' button has always nagged at me. Yeah, it would be beyond tedious to have to climb out of a cave or elevator four or five floors out of a base or office building, but the "Hey, Miller Time!" nature of the insta-exit strikes me as an exploit.

When the last two gamers on earth run into each other, they will bicker over some factional shit that makes no sense to any other tribe. -

Yeah, but twenty-odd posts and no one shouted "fake news!" Maybe we are... growing up? Again? -
I'm not sure any such thing is possible. You do know to delete all the top layers and set the base sky mode to get the visual effect? I think that's all that's possible unless there's a hack. It may be possible only in edit mode, with clipping turned off. Happy to help if no base guru steps in. I am a Home Depot base-erizer but I haven't found anything I can't do if I try long enough.

/optionset ToolTipDelaySec [0.1 - 1.0] Default is 0.6, so there's not much extension time. Might be enough unless your withered old claw is really slow. Menu sliders are all too often... not quite connected to reality. You might also try longer values, which might be undocumented/un-updated-documented or just not within the slider range. and /optionset UseToolTips [0|1] aka /optiontoggle UseToolTips for a one-key bind or a macro. So nyah, nyah, ya old geezer! So, okay, Roy, I guess'n the timer option only works on actual tooltips, such as on tray icons. Nice to be able to adjust that pop-up. But it' don't do a consarned thing on the Manage window pop-ups. But by gosharoonie, the use toggle does suppress those. So there ya go, pod'nuh.

what is more powerful/fun grav/nrg or nrg/grav?
Shenanigunner replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
All good. I just see a lot of arguments that bypass levels 5-49 and ass/u/me the only build that matters is that double-pepperoni Incarnate one. You know, "You don't need [insert key lower level buff here] because [incarnate/Pool/Epic/IO Set] power!" Put me in the category that thinks Hasten, well-managed, is a useful asset for most attack builds until and if it can be replaced with those uber-steroids. It only takes one power choice, no more than three slots, and can be made perma alongside other key click buffs. I've never had trouble with its crash, or Rage's. -
Well, it's up to you, O Master, to create the correct type-inclusive acronym for the species. Until then, us ignerant types will have to assume SSD (silver screen Dracula) and that's just anti-DIE.

Apples and oranges; different solutions to different ends. One advantage of Hasten is that it's available at a low level and isn't dependent on 50'ing out with IO sets. But as only lusers take longer than a day to max out their alts I guess that's moot. 🙂 -

It's trivial to use walking binds to keep all toggles up and all clicks on autofire. No nasty noises or nothin'. Or you can just consider icon whac-a-mole an unavoidable annoyance of gameplay. -

Ah, yes. The default bind set, crafted by monkeys ca. 2003 and deeply revered to this day. Sigh. -

Both, of course. -
Most of the rabid anti-fluoride groups were against both, but as you can choose your toothpaste (including plain old baking soda or grammy's homemade soap), but not your tap water, the focus was on the latter. Nowadays, it's moot since SnFl is a component of chemtrail distribution. 😐

Fluoride has absolutely nothing to do with the efficacy or quality or "bestness" of toothpaste. All toothpastes would test exactly the same whether they had no fluoride, or loads of it.
