The Trial of Stan the Man vs Copyright Law
jubakumbi replied to Stan The Man's topic in General Discussion
If I made the character for this purpose, it would have only Fear and Confuse, perhaps a petless MM with the Presence Pool, so it would be very easy to defeat. I definately think Vigilante would, in fact, be the right choice as well. -
The Trial of Stan the Man vs Copyright Law
jubakumbi replied to Stan The Man's topic in General Discussion
I think I should make a Villian named Copyright Law and challenge Stan The Man to a public duel... In fact, that is how all 'reported violations' should be handled - if you can beat Coypright Law, you get to keep the character as-is! It's about as accurate and reasonable as the current 'rules'. -
Wow. Your world is rigid and full of if-then-else-I am doing it wrong. It is actually possible to make money and have time to post when I feel like it, while posting hours I will often play...all at the same time. You know - it's possible the world does not just work your way. Because I post during traditional working hours implies I do a bad job as well, it seems. Because i might not be retired, I might not have the data needed to call this BS out, it seems. Too funny. I am certain my mind is bright enough to find it's own things to do, which include calling out blatant attacks on the ethics and morals of an entire industry, of which I happen to be a part, if only on the game forum of a rogue server cluster for a dead game. Your permission for me to tell you your outlook is cynical and ageist is simply not required, nor is your attitude that I am somehow either unqualified or too old to call out BS when I see it. Additionally, since you seem so interested, would you like my cell number as well so you can ask me out on a date? 🖖

Wow, cynical much? This is just a cynical tirade by a person who has decided that the 'good old days' (that never existsed) were somehow better, 'because' everyone had more Work Ethic. What a load of bollocks and ageism propaganda.

Everything else sucks compared to AE farming
jubakumbi replied to Weylin's topic in General Discussion
I hear you. I do, really. I think about this stuff all the time, everyday, actually. My father was a compulsive gambler to many. The first time I walked onto a casino floor as an adult with money, I had my wife put the credit cards in the safe w/o me knowing the combination just in case. I work in the finance industry, helping to implement marketing software to get people to spend more money. ..so yeah, it's something I think about and study. If the companies stop using this method to fund things and use other methods, I would use those. I simply don't think this is an area where other people have the 'right' to restrict me as a consumer from being allowed to buy randomized virtual loot to support a game company. I realize another way to say the same thing sounds like 'regulate the predatory gaming industry to protect vulnerable individuals'. It would not be the first thing that the herd disapproves of that I love, and I get tired of having things I like taken from me, just like everyone else... -
Everything else sucks compared to AE farming

I am not a big blame based person, but that is what it's all about, Blame. IMO, is still human fear and the inability for many people to control themsleves, both the consumers and the developers. I also know how 'polarizing' this topic is and that as I mentioned, some people for various reasons look at all of it as Evil. As soon as the hate for the 'big companies' comes into play, it's just another blame cycle. To me, it's all blaming outside forces on the fact some people cannot control themsleves. I agree with @The_Cheesemanin that the issues are based in human nature. I simply don't agree that it should all just be shutdown, because some people are 'bad' or that some people cannot control themsleves. At the same time, I am well aware there are intractable opinions that differ from mine, no worries. In the end, it is a blame issue, because IMO, many if not most humans want to blame most everything bad on someone else. Thier own inability to control themsleves or thier finances must be blamed on an outside force. I just am not a fan of the nanny-state, I have no desire to be told what to do with my free time and money. -

Well, then we definately disagree at a fundamental level on the subject! -

I hear you, but IMO it's fine line bewtween 'regulated' and 'nanny-state'. I am well-aware different cultures look at this differently, etc., these things are literally Evil to some people. However, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I have to be 'restricted' arbitrarily because other humans cannot control themsleves. IMO, that is the contentious bit...and there is no black and white answer that always pleases everyone...it's a very area, IME... -
Well then, I guess it won't! It's what I figured, I just look at my playtime in a different way, I got to play the game, nothing is wasted, I had fun. Different strokes.

It pays to increase past the caps so that when you get debuffed, you are still at the cap. This will vary greatly based on power combinations, as some give you resistance to the stuff that debuffs resistance. On a Blaster, I would recommend chasing Ranged Defence first and than add whatever Smashing and Lethal resistance you can get in there. Initial ranged Def cap is 45%, incarnate is 56% (?) I think. IME, once I can get my blaster Ranged Defence where one outside buff hits the cap - an inspiration or other player buff - it's works pretty well and just gets better if I can get closer.

I just like to play the game. I really, really don't understand this mentality, even as @Jimmy showed, it is a major concern, so I get that it is very prevelent. Not trying to be combative! From my PoV, it's 'just more characters' I get to play, so I don't see the issue, I don't see it as restarting anything, just more characters. Please, anyone feel free to enlighten me here...from my PoV, I would just get to play my favorite some more, possibly with different powers, etc...

Not even once. I am not against the discussion at all. Lots of people are new to the Holy War and have a side to pick, after all! 😉 Just like @MunkiLord suggests, there are a lot of views on the subject, lot's of infomation, and lots of people that like to discuss it. While there are laws, it's not a binary, cut-and-dried thing. Personally, I would love to find some 'people that know how to handle it' and elect them, so the broken systems can be fixed so that consumers don't have to fear lawyers. 🙂 As for the HC team, they have confidence in thier lawyer from what I read, so we just have to hope that person 'knows how to handle it', which at this point has to simply be 'faith', unfortunately, we have no real data. Like most anyone paying attention IMO, I saw this coming from the start. Any entity that is going to take over the IP legally will probably have to follow all of the court rulings that come along with it - seen this in business my whole career. It depends on a lot of things that we don't have details for, but from my PoV, this addition to the rules was inevitable if the thing is going to be 'legit'. Does not mean I have to like it, does not mean I have to report. It just means HC has to implement the policy to the best of thier ability.

"Is there no Magic Ointment for that, doctor?" "'Afraid not, no way to make it stop, but you will get super powers." "Ugh, fine."
-
That's sounds interesting! Trying to finsih DOS2 before I buy Pathfinder though!
-
See? Not really, actualy. I think the only thing we have disagreed on is about IP and Creativity. I agree with a ton of what you post, just not the tone. You decided very early that you disliked the way I use FUD, assuming I was being dissmissive, and have bacically attacked ME, not the ideas, at many turns. I see you do it to others, just as happened now. The difference is just that - I am trying to discuss ideas, not make personal attacks. I am not out to get anyone, I just want to discuss things without being told to 'go F myself'. Your exasperation, IMO, is no excuse, I have been more than exasperated by many things you and other have posted, without resorting to specific personal attacks unless attacked and even then I try to not go there, only defend my position. As a I just posted in another thread, I will clap back, but I don't start off on the offesive. IME, you are just on full offense and when someone tries to really discuss, you disengage, or just attack the messenger.
-
Naw, IMO, more like you seem to go full attack mode, well, all the time, with very little empathy and assume no one else has any, and then attack thier moral character when they hold fast to a position on which you do not agree. It's kind of tiresome and tedious, TBH. Even when someone tries to engage with you, if they don't agree, it's all just "RAWR! You don't understand Mental Illness, or whatever." At least, that's how I see it...
-
I knew you meant it well! Was just playin', as I think you realized. Damn, now I miss fighting with people in the South where I grew up over being a damn dirty hippie...
-
Yeah...I have a really hard time playing any game in full iron man mode because of the technology, or my old fingers on an old trackball, or a cat, getting me killed... 😉
-
Not to mention, to troll the HC support team with this crap. Sadly, these players have always been here and always will be, humans sometimes really suck. I think another issue is the age of the general playerbase - it's always skewed a little older and IMO therefore has more 'parents' that think they need to 'help' the rest of us 'children' - ageism sucks. My generation lives in constant fear of lawyers as well, so theres that. The policy is what it is. It's the players that will ruin the fun of people, not the policy.
-
You suggest eliminating all trade-offs, in effect (affect?) a big buff. Many of the things you point out here are designed to force these trade offs. IMO, it's a slippery slope, especially after the huge buff Sleath just got...
-
You say that like it's a bad thing! I have been a damn (not dirty) hippie all my life. Love Rules, Man!

My only issue is when people use thier emotional situation as a weapon, as seen over and over on these forums, and then be allowed to insult and demean because 'feelings', in total disregard for other people, because some unseen 'trigger line' was crossed. We ALL have shit to dealth with, it's called life. The moment anyone tries to use thier own emotional outlook as a weapon to beat down others as the bad guys, they have eliminated any empathy or sympathy they might get from me, especially if the only thing backing up thier argument is feelings and not facts. IME, most humans are just plain old too scared of challenging these attacks, because they then feel like they will be seen as being mean to a 'vulnerable' person, while said person my be 'vulnerable', using it as a weapon means they gave up thier good will, IMO. As far as this game goes, for whatever reason (I think there are many) IMO, more of us are 'on the spectrum' as compared to other games. Makes for a very interesting 'community' if nothing else. All I really ever want is for people to not be purposefully mean to each other in game, which some people are simply incapable of doing, that is reality. I also follow the wise words of Mal in my own way - "If someone tries to kill you, you try and kill them right back." - I will not 'roll over and take it', I will no longer 'turn the other cheek' or any of that nonsense - I will clap back in the spririt in which I am addressed, and yes that includes when I have bad data or I misinterpret something, I am human, I make misakes, imagine that! If any of that makes me a 'bad' person to someone else, I can live with that, will not be the first time, won't be the last, and will give me another good story for my boss and other non-gamers for whom I give glimps into our world. 🙂

"Breaking the law' is the sticking point. They are, to a degree, possibly infringing on owned IP - menaing if the cosplay is really good, and they nailed it, then they are infringinng, naything else becomes homage or parody, based on degrees of differences, etc. The 'law' does not come into play until an IP owner decides they want to stop said person. The 'law' dictates the IP owner has to prove the cosplayer devalued the IP/profited from it, etc., before a 'legal judgement' is made. The fear everyone around here has is the lawyers, not the IP, IMO. There is some idea of C&D letter 'shutting down' the whole thing over these IP violations. This is simply a very error filled interpretaion of how things work. As you well know, this community has gone in circles eating itself over this topic. Some players are simply conviced the sky will fall if other players make IP based characters and there is no changing thier minds. Other are convinced players that make homages/clones should be shamed and shunned and there is no changing thier minds. None of this has changed in games and conventions and peoples creativity since the invention of copyright and trademark, it is an endless holy war, IMO.

Just because it's on test and few people are toying with it, does not mean it's about to happen. Those same posts talk about other ideas as well. But, by all means, let's just decide the sky is falling, shall we? 😉 -

I am with you. I don't care one whit for the minutae so many people want to quibble over in games, just seems like a lot of wasted time and energy to me. But, having persoanlly known intense rule-lawyers, they get thier dopamine from being 'right' and proving others 'wrong' and al of that to them revolves around minutae. I just like killin' pixels, the infighting over the little changes is hilarious to me, makes the workday go by much faster.
