  1. Ah, the awesome COH community strikes again!
  2. 'Deserved backlash' was the phrase I was originally pointing out, to be clear, as it shows this underlying hate, IMO, of developer choices seen as stupid - just look at the Jack was a Clown bit, for example. And IMO that request is asking too much. Negative feedback is fine. Asking anyone that is doing this on thier own time as a hobby to do anything more than what they feel like doing is, IMO, asking too much. I have been in the position these people are in - creating stuff for people to have fun with as a hobby - and the moment the book reports started was the moment it became work and I walked away. I say, give your feedback when asked, I am proof you don't even have to be polite, and move on, accept what gets changed and keep playing, or go make your own. It's a labor of love, a hobby, play it or don't, but please don't ask people to write book reports about thier free time activities, they will when they feel like it, they already do. If this outlook makes me the bad guy, I can live with that, I have for this long. 🙂
  3. The whole point has been made. No matter what the server runners publish, you and players like you will tear it apart, so why should they write the book reports in the first place unless they feel like it? It's a hobby. I would not write them, I don't expect these guys to write them, with thier precious time on this earth, for a bunch of players that will just whine anyway. Why should they put themselves through any of that? I wouldn't. They ask for feedback, give it when you have it, they take it as they like. There is nothing else to be done, there is nothing to fix. Asking for anything more is literally someone asking you to write a book report about how you spent your free time, just so they can critique it, IMO.
  4. But that's what you are doing when you say 'deserved backlash' is feedback, IMO. IMO, all MMOs that are smart make the playerbase think they players helped fix it, it's just good PR. I think there are those players that happen to be good at stuff that really help them now and then, Arcanaville exists. But for the most part, the masses are in no way helpful, let's be real here. You seem to take the idea/statement that that people in mass quantities make bad game design choices somehow means you, specifically, make bad choices, from what I can tell, when that's not what was meant. They ask for feedback, give good feedback, not backlash, and move on, so they can keep doing what they like without having a bunch of minutae focused players tearing it apart.
  5. To use your words, Feedback and Deserved Backlash are two very different things, combined with the Jack hate and the thought that the community fixed the game, does show some pretty aggressive dev hate to me. Just sayiin'.
  6. COH server runners are not required from my POV to write book reports, nor should they be, unless they feel like it. The server runners can choose, or not, as they see fit to engage, or not, as they see fit, because they are just volunteers doing something they (hopefully) like doing. It's their hobby, that happens to benefit a bunch of other people. I say you take what you get and feel good about the fact they listen to anything we say at all, personally. If you don't think they deserve money, then don't donate. But really, this is not the first ask of this kind. Just feel lucky that they will even allow us to rant the way we do here and keep the lights running. It's obvious they play the game and listen to the masses, even if we don't all agree on the details, which is more than some fans can say about the MMOs they play. Please don't try and make them write book reports just to have the playerbase tear them apart over the minutae and thus discourage further developement. Please.
  7. Static Electricity - SE/ /SE Just a thought, even if the ultimate in generic redundancy. 🙂
  8. I know why the name was changed, it was a good idea to do so IMO. Your name sounds fine and is also quite generic from my POV. This is a discussion forum, I was discussing. Are we not supposed to discuss the feedback?
  9. Well, I remember comments about it from Live, I have a lot of gay friends that played the game then. Plus, times have changed. People are trying to be more considerate. How is this a bad thing? And the in-game character is a dirtbag, I can remember the glee with witch one of my friends killed that villain, so you could say it's there to allow people to face their demons, as opposed to a powerset with the name. It's not wrong to not like the new name, I gave other examples. I don't care, TBH, as long as it's not offensive. I am curious as to why more generic is a bad thing, really just curious, I think more generic is good for a powerset name, it allows more flexibility. I should probably not try and talk about two thought lines in one post.
  10. So, why is it being generic 'bad'? It fits the most different concepts the more generic it is, thus allowing for the broadest interpretation for character concepts, etc. How is this not a good thing? And more generally, how is a game about Heroes, played by people that want to be Heroes and do good things (Blueside), run by people wanting to keep the game alive for the most number of players, in anyway in the 'wrong' for not using a very loaded term when it obviously upset players? How is it suddenly a bad move simply because the same volunteers have not taken the time to remove all such things? How is it wrong for the people involved to want to make the game more enjoyable to the most people? Some of the posters here are literally attacking the HC team because they listened to their players and made things better for them, without impacting a single in-game number. How is this bad? If anything, it's one of the most responsible and mature moves they have made. How is changing a name that upsets and offends a bad thing, in anyway showing any form of weakness on the part of the HC team?
  11. Electric Boogaloo? /EB Electric Support? /ES Static Cling? /SC Electrical Interference? /EI Lots of viable options that don't reference the dark side of psychiatric treatments.
  12. The story with the MMs seems to be some form of 'let me assemble a group of terrible henchmen so they can be killed while I have a cocktail.' 🙂 Perfect for Goldfinger, just not any fun for me. It like calling over friends to play a game and then just watching them play it.
  13. New name is fine. The name does not need to be 'cool' or 'hip'. Nothing is 'cool' or 'hip' if it bring back terrifying memories. The set lost nothing.
  14. Masterminds. I have tried so many combos and I just find them terribly boring to play.
  15. My friend that used to play had two blasters on Live that got so far into debt early on that he just deleted them. One of the changes I don't mind in modern MMOs is lower death penalties, some of those corrpse runs back in the day were not fun in any way either. You know you've spent too long in debt when it's faster to re-roll and re-level than to keep the character...
  16. And no matter how long one spends in the costume creator, when the costume is done, it took exactly the amount of time needed, no more, no less. "A Tailor is never late, nor are they early, the costume is complete when it's complete", or something like that... Just because the sun is up again and there are an entirely different group of people playing, doesn't mean it took too long, only that it is finally right.
  17. "I am not crazy, my Mom had me tested!"
  18. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Well, you do you.
  19. How? Why? As MunkiLord points out, it uses the games words. How is is 'stupid'? How is it any more 'stupid' than any word anyone has ever made?
  20. I used to go pick my wife up from work in the afternoons. We would go a block or so and she would say something like "You've been playing racing games today huh?"
  21. That's called 'points' and my spouse already keeps track of those, thanks! 😉 But you hit the nail on the head - even if sarcastically - we have become a society that cares more about the value of 'online points' than we do about 'real life' from my POV and it's just fascinating to see people try and make 'what the Internet forum says' into having real value, when it's totally lopsided toward a very powerful, vocal, and opinionated portion of the actual population...a big set of echo chambers... I have seen this from the first BBS systems right up to our newest social media platforms. The fact these things exist, etc., I don't find suprising at all. It is very interseting to basically be told as kid "don't believe everything you read" and have that in my lifetime turn into "Internet pics or it did not happen" when anything can be faked, without even needing to publish a book. Someone posted it, someone Liked it, so it must be true, right? And if I don't Like it or Repost it, then I might not win the lottery....right?
  22. I feel the same way about Forum Reputation, Steam Achievements, and things like Badges in COH...just flags in a database that get flipped when I do something I would already be doing because I find it fun, not because some people are conviced that 'what other think about them' matters and they want to have all the right Street Cred...I know some people just 'have to get them all' regardless of the topic, but I am not one of those people either. People worry over others judging them, then turn right around and susbscribe to the system built to judge them, acting like it has meaning...it really does fascinate me how our society has become so emotionally tied to how many people Like thier posts... But, it certainly is fun to watch at times, I gotta admit.
  23. I just assume my 'forum reputation' will get me killed by a rabid fan of one of the games I post on a forum about, because it seems that speaking my mind makes my 'forum reputation' that of terrible person for pointing out uncomfortable things some people don't want to address. I am not sure which is the more ignoble death, a Darwin Award, or Death By Rabid Gamer. The best though is having all kinds of conspiracy theories I have seen around 'forum reputation' with people making sock-puppets and the like to promote a certain POV. That's just nuts. Who has that kind of time? I have trouble keeping up with one account per forum, much less multiples to just make a specific account look a certain way on a certain topic. What an odd world, where what used to be considered nothing but nerd territory, just using Forums, has now become something the average person uses to decide if they are 'on the right team'...from the feedback they get from other posters...just fascinating.
  24. Should have said pools and not travel powers, my bad - was thinking things like just adding Hasten as a inherent, etc.
  25. I would argue that the players are forcing this change and that developers are just giving the masses what they want. Don't get me wrong, I would love some immersive worlds, worth exploring, not just filler for flyovers, but the current masses want a game where they can gather a few friends in a few minutes and then achieve a goal in under an hour, because have to leave for X in an hour. As is being discussed in another thread to a degree, those of us that game for hours on end are more the exception than the rule - it's hard to get people to invest in games that have what appears to be a limited ROI due to a small audience. Travel in COH works 'just right' IMO, I can get there as fast or as leisurely as I like - the world is small to someone with Super-powered travel options, as it would be if this many heroes were one place helping each other. Personally, most of the options I see presented here to change Travel powers really end up being more power creep, forcing fewer trade-offs in character building, which IMO makes the game less immersive than the travel powers make the game too small...the trade-offs give the game it's flavor, IMO, and many of the ideas presented just make things generic and overpowered.
