Thanks for the responce! Really! I have no desire to convince anyone of anything. I prefer people lok at all the data they have and make choices. I have (sometimes passionate) opinions about things and I like to share those. One persons blunt is another persons aggressive - I have used the same tones and langauge and get vastly different reactions - there is no way I can please everyone, I learned this long agao, so I simply don't try - I am not here to please anyone. This is not a problem just here, this is problem of RL - blunt to some is automatically aggresive while to others it's just normal conversation. "I am not a fan" does not properly begin to describe the unbridled hate I have toward people that want to tell other people how to have fun, to me that would be 'fake nice'. On some topics, I am passionate, regardless of the 'forum'. I will not use some universally neutral language to convey thoughts that I think need accurate words, I find it to be lying/subversive/wrong - I try to convey what I actually think, not some watered-down version of that, I prefer to be honest, open, and blunt. I don't expect others to change to suit my communication prefernces.

That's really funny. You think these forums have anything to do with playing COH? The existence of this handle on these forums has absolutley no bearing on my playing COH for the long haul, or any other game where I use it. You don't actually think what takes place on these forums has any RL meaning, do you? This is nothing more than a way to waste time at my desk when I don't feel like painting my house or sorting more Magic cards. And yes, my spelling sucks as much as my demeanor offends some people and my grammer probably makes others weep. Truth be told, I really had no idea my thoughts were so offensive to so many of you - I have plenty of support for my ideas, both online and in RL. I think it's fascinating that just talking blunty about my views on a game is so ... emotionally impactful on people I don't kow and never met, just through words on a screen. I don't take gaming (forums) nearly as seriously as some people seem to...it's just another video game, just another forum... Seems like a lot of drama just because I passionately express myself the same way here as I would in RL. Since we are clearly on the topic of bashing me over discussing the dead-horse of INF equality, I would still love to know why, specifically, the words I use hurt more than the words I see others use that hurt me, like 'ban for using Homages', 'ban for charging for AE runs', 'prevent powerlevelling', 'that AT is broken, buff mine', 'you are playing that character wrong'... All those words hurt me deeply, as they show a community that wants players that will conform and attack anything not 'right'... Feel free to just PM me with why you think I am so terrible, that's fine as well. This is the most fun I have had in a while, thanks everyone!

Best ATs for different thematic pairings?
jubakumbi replied to Menelruin's topic in General Discussion
For Electric, I prefer Dom. Elec/Elec Dom gets all the fun Electric powers IMO. Add in the Electric Incarnate and Mu...so much fun. -
Well, I am certainly not out to upset you. Yes, I really do think that anyone who blindly shares a consensus opinion is just going with the herd and living in an echo chamber. I think that anyone who really thinks that 'everyone thinks the same' is living in an echo chamber. My opinions on a great many things may be 'bad' from multiple points of view, just as the opinions of others can be 'bad' depending on your POV. So? I have thoughts, I share them as I like. For example, making INF gain equal for all activities in the game would not fix the perceived problem the OP outlines. If we are not here to discuss our differing opinions, than what use is this forum other than just an echo chamber for the herd? If you have data that can change my opinion, then please, share that data, we will see if it changes my outlook. What some posters here have an issue with is my manner and typed deportment, not actually my ideas most of time, IME. Some of them seem to think there is some onus on me via society at large to change how I communicate, which I find equally hilarious. There are Ignore features right in the forum if you really find my thoughts upsetting. I hope you can understand that there is no obligation on my part to censure my language more than I already do...you should see the paragraphs I type that I delete before posting! I have been here since the first few days the non-secret servers have been turned up, I was here from Day 4 of Live before the Snap, and I plan on being here until I can no longer play the game due to age and infirmity. My outlooks on these topics is something I have shared on the interwebs for years in numerous MMO forums, never been banned. So if you have a problem with my typed deportment or my outlook on topics like this one that are, IMO and that of others, non-issues and bad ideas on 'fixes', then by all means, please do youself a favor and put me on ignore, because I am here for the long haul, regardless of how I agree with any of the server runners or any of the players, because I like the Game, that's why I am here, that's why I post my (aggressive and rude) opinions, not any other reason. Toodles.

Could not agree more...still here, not banned. 🙂

You really, really think that 'most people' reason the same way? I don't even know how to appraoch that level of echo-chamber thinking, TBH, that floors me that anyone would actually think that. The mere mention of something that upsets the herd is wht brings out the comments, be it a new idea or an old one, IME. I don't give a hoo-haa about coolness, fake or real, I just type what I think.
-
I use the same language I would use if we were face to face. I am well aware my blunt personality and language is unpleasant to some people. Fake nice is unpleasant to me. Seeing people told that they are not creative enough because they like Homage is unpleasant to me. Seeing people try to get others banned for charging for AE runs is unpleasant to me. I could go on, but I am sure you get the idea. People chose how to respond to my 'unpleasant' language, just as I choose how to respond to the things I find objectionable. You seem to think that I can somehow control the actions of others through words on a screen, if only... The only power my words have over others is the power those poeple choose to give them. I am well aware this is a fundamental human vs. human issue and that not everyone agrees with that philosophy. I choose to post opinions about things I want to post opinions, in a manner that I prefer, with little regard for how others choose to take my words, on a forum for a dead game running on rogue servers that only exist because of criminal and immoral actions involving theft of IP and consumer data...I think I have some wiggle room... We cannot have 'nice things' because this entire 'thing' is basically a criminal enterprise full of different voices with different outlooks on what is really right and wrong.

And if some players (and server runners) have thier 'way', then that will evaporate, there are plenty of players that just love that idea. As for changes to HC, they can do what they like, just as the reset of the server runners. You trying to tell me to shut up and go away because I talk about things you don't want will not really prevent me from sharing my thoughts. If you want to play forum police, then by all means, go right ahead, don't really care...if the HC forum team don't like what I type, they will do what they like. No where have I even advocated for any changes to be brought to HC. I simply mention and explore ideas of playing the game and the players come out to tell me to shut up...because they literally cannot even abide the ideas...it's kind of sad, really, to see gamers that play such a creativity based game with such low levels of new idea acceptance to the point they cannot even stand people mentioning them without basically saying 'shut up and go play somewhere else.'

More like I simply refuse to cover things in flowery language, I prefer blunt and to the point. It's not passive aggressive, it's really just aggressive with an ocasional nod to civility. Just because I am blunt and unapologetic for my language does not, in fact, mean I have some unterior motive, it just means I am not concerned if my opinion offends or upsets others - plenty of very nicely worded opinions are terribly offensive. I am here to talk about ideas and actions taken by players and server runners, not to make friends or enemies, just laying out my opinions. Like the idea that there needs to be a fix in the game to insure everyone gains roughly the same amount of INF no matter what they do in the game. Why not just remove it entirely if it's just another thing everyone has the same amount of? "When everyone is Super, no one will be."
-
Not looking for respect here, "I have no desire to belong to a club that would have me as a member." I am not saying in anyway I am morally superior, only that the passive-aggressive, 'morally superior' language I see used by a lot of the players that have decided anything but 'oldschool/HC' is 'wrong' has been constant, from well before the Snap, in an effort to make players conform. Paragon Studios itself promoted the with the Holy War on AE powerleveling, for example, becuase it circumvented thier income and put strain on resources they did not expect and could not fix. I am well-aware much of my language is attack focused, because to be blunt, I am tired of the years of attacks from these 'morally superior' players trying to tell the rest of us how to have fun, how uncreative some poeple are for enjoying Homage, how evil some players are for powerleveling, etc., some of them even now post things about shutting down anything non-HC as illegitimate, when it's all rogue servers and HC's moral high-road is already full of plot-holes. I don't apologize for that, at all, it's half the point of my posting, I will remain on full attack mode against anyone trying to stiffle any way someone wants to play this game. If you are having fun, then play the game. If you are defining your fun based on making sure other people only play the game your way, then I won't hold my tongue on my POV of that terrible attitude. I don't care if there are some people who just want everyone to post positive, rose colored views of these issues, I refuse to live with my head in the sand, I refuse to just ignore this portion of the player population, especially when they try so hard to con-job everyone else into ignoring reality, simply because they don't want to tackle the tough stuff. And finally, all this is the very reason there should not be one source of truth for this game, because no single game runner can make every group that plays this game happy. IMO, the game at this stage is something everyone should be allowed to enjoy, any way they like, without the ridicule from the moral minority telling them they play the game wrong.

I love the idea. Would be great to see different things happening on different shards and server groups as well, with each shard becoming a different time-line of possibilities.

Yes, it would seem this is the case. The seven players in the OPs dream team have them, yet one does not, so, it's easy and hard. The IO game is easy or hard depeneding on your personal brain chemistry and alloted time in game. Just like everything else in every other MMO - the people that play a lot with focused energy get more rewards, full stop. Those that do not spend that time and/or energy, do not, so they often think a game is hard. It's an easy thing that some people make hard on themsleves because they refuse to do X or Y because 'moral reasons', then complain they don't have the goodies they desire. The people coming out of the woodwork to belittle anything of which they do not approve, trying desperately to maintain the status quo so thier world is not 'ruined', so they can retain some level of control in thier minds. Many of us have found lots of other ways to enjoy the game, but since we don't do it the 'right' way, we are all 'bad'. It is truly classic cognitive dissonance, the super ability of humans. Many if not most won't even really engage, as soon I start trying to talk about the real underlying issues, like the fact that influence does not really matter at this point, so why not eliminate it, or the fact that since there is no money involved there is no reason to force the player into pointless timesinks, people tell me to f-off and walk away. So yeah, IOs are really easy to get, yet a lot of people choose to make it hard because they choose the way of pain and many of them are mad at the rest of us for simply playing the game ... dare I say ... better. Ya'll have fun now...

All I get are jabs most of the time. That's still your opnion and your experience. I would play more if I could just play with making builds, I no longer get joy from slot machine rewards that are just flags in a database. That part no longer holds joy for me, whereas creating builds and testing them holds much joy. Not everyone is, in fact, controlled/addicted to/prefers that particular endless wheel of dopamine. IMO, holding on to that entire idea is still based on getting players to play longer in an effort to get them to spend more money. If they like the game and want to play it, they will. If they are just here for the rewards, they will leave once they get them all. The only reason to hang around is to have fun and we have fun in different ways. I don't want to restict the fun of others, but I get nothing but static from this playerbase for simply wanting the same treatment. I was not even postulating a direct idea, I simply mentioned the idea as a way to where changing INF rewards could lead...and here we are, me getting attacked for going against the herd, for using an idea to eplxain something... This forum delivers.
-
It's why I am here, this MMO forum by far has been the most entertaining of any I have ever visited, before and after the 'Snap'...it always delivers. The mere mention of an idea outside the herd parameters brings out the hate. Ideas are dangerous, you know!

Clutch those pearls! Clutch them with all your might!

Sounds like an excellent suggestion for the Suggestion Forum. I thought we were also discussing Income Inequality... Which leads me to say I don't see increasing drops in Radio missions having any real impact on the people running SO'ed characters and feeling bad about the IOs of others and not having fun...just because they would be able to potentianlly afford IOs more readily does not equal all of them them running optimized builds. This is the issue the OP presented - a person playing who feels bad on a team of IOed characters when they are poor. There will still be players not really intersted in IOs even when they can afford them more easily from thier POV, they have existed the whole time. I have met more than one that thinks IOs are literally cheating and that they ruined the whole game, for example, who do not use them. So sure, increase the drop rates in Radios, it won't impact the income inequalities though, the top players will always find the paths to the most ROI and there will always be haves and have nots, unless you simply eliminate loot all together and force all players into specific builds, etc.

See? Even with a replicator, some people can play the game better, that's just how it is, there is never any pefect balance. 🙂
-
Heh - I set you up for that one. 😉
-
IMO, it is the difference in enjoying making new characters/builds vs. earning loot. Some people like to feel as if they 'did a good job' and 'earned' something by playing the game and getting drops. Some poeple like to create/implement the ideas they have,. Some are both. For me, I am long past any dopamine from getting drops and levels in COH. I love to make the characters in my head in online worlds, and I love to do the math and twaeking to make them awsome. The leveling process is fun and all to learn the character, but this old-fashioned idea of 'earning' the 'right' to do some of these things in-game based on time spent is a really old system at this point, IMO, especially with the game in it's current iteration, which is that it's deployed for fun, not profit. What I don't understand is why some people want to hold so tight onto what is really just an old system built to get people to spend money...

IO, Armageddon, Attuned.

I do love a good, warm hat. I would love, love for there to be no influence in the game and that you just went to the Enhancement Replicator and took out what you wanted. IMO, there is no real reason to continue to gate the waelth int he game behind any sort of time grind, because there is no money involved for subscribers/players. The rarity and costs are really a joke at this point, the IOs are easily obtainable if you want them, why make it hard? Just pick what you want and slot it up...
-
Which assumes there is a problem that does not exist, IMO, with the other ways 'earning too much'... The reason for the 'fix' is to prevent the exitence of 'earning too much' from a totally subjective POV, IMO, that is based on the idea that there must be total influence equality...something that is simply not possible without removing influnce or setting the max influence to something like 100K...to insure enveryone could max it out...
-
Nope. The OP thinks there are people that 'earn too much' and thinks there needs to be a 'fix'. This is all control based. Increasing Influence to those that are 'earning too little' is simply a control move to try and balance a system that does not need to be balanced. The only problem here is that some people envy the time others have to play the game and those envious people want to control the system to prevent having thier sensibilities hurt...it's a pure control move...the OP wants to prevent the high earners from being high earners...the method is irrelevent...the OP wants to control the Influence flow. The same argumant has been used for Influence earning and XP gain for this game from Day 1. It's this idea that an imaginary utopia of perfect game balance exists that must be uncovered, when no such thing exists.
-
Why? Why do you want to control people you don't know in a dead MMO running on rogue servers? Why does the game have to have some unobtainable perfect balance no game has? Hawkeye and Thor are not balanced. Not everyone will put the same time and energy into a game and therefore their avatars will not be balanced. Advanced players will play in advanced ways, others may not, this is how games are played by passionate people. The only thing IMO you seem to be saying here is that you think other people can get the free slot machine to produce faster doing things others don't want to do. Oh well, such is life, there is no such thing as balance, it is an illusion sold to people to make them think life is fair when the opposite is reality. Really, where does this desire to prevent other from earning 'too much' in a video game come from?

I'd say anything with debuff toggles starts to get a little complex, but the changes here make it easier. I kind of compare characters to driving cars. The ones that drive like sports cars, where as long as you watch the road and your reflexes don't fail, you fly, until you hit a pebble and crash, are sometimes complex to insure your powers are all working properly. Dominators are probably my vote there, along with some Corruptors amd tricked out Blasters. The easier ones like Scrappers just keep on like a work-horse pickup truck, but are not hard to drive, it's just ones like Dual Blades also have a turbo mode that can take your eyes off the road too much sometimes to make the ride less enjoyable.
