The only way I play a Blaster is as a Blapper, IMO, there is no other way, unless you are all Arrow or something....

"You can never go home." The thing you want is based on so many more things than just feeling like the world is large, it's also the feeling of there being unknown things and all the rest, IMO. I look for what I consider time wasters in all games, even in the ones I start fresh when I am not a vet. I'll play your game, I pay you to play it, but I won't pay you to sit and watch the screen - I want to have in interactive game, that's why I play games and not watch TV. Immersion does not have to waste my time. I play games for the escape, to be in a different world, but things like increased travel time for the sake of immersion is, to me, a very weak argument for it, there are better ways. Even in comics, unless it helps tell the story specifically, you get "8 hours later" and the result, etc.

Time. While if in the mood to do so, it is fun to just fly around, but time spent travelling is not, for most people IME, considered 'fun' in an of itself, most of the time. The time element of MMOs is skewed, because the original idea was longer play = more money. With no corporate entity to feed, lots of people are not interested is spending the precious time they have on the planet travelling in a game to get to the 'fun'. Even before the Snap, this game and others were changing that. Battletech just added a setting to stop yet another time sink that did nothing but make you watch paint dry in the form of a counter clock. Making people wait to get to the 'fun part' just for the sake of waiting or to build anticipation is simply no longer a 'thing', IMO. Time is precious.

"I play game for your protection"...I have actually used this one to answer "why do you waste so much time playing games?" Some of them don't realize that without games, I would start playing with them and I know they don't want that...

What is with the oponents scattering all the time???

The Bad Guys finally get a bump to thier powerset and the Heroes are all like "nerf Resisting Arrest"... -
I spend more time playing games than some people do working two jobs...I know, because I used to to the working. I made it my goal to be able to afford my hobbies. One of those involves lots of time. Goal reached. I also like to respond with, "How many hours a week do you spend on Sports?" following my "Why would I care about watching other people playing a game, when I could be playing one?" What I have to spend too long doing is convincing other people that gaming is a way of life, not just a hobby. 🙂 The bills get paid, the wife gets the time she wants...the rest is Game On!

Unlike many of the ATs, the Dominator can play both parts of the 'hold them down while I arrest them' combo...where the Tank might play one Role and the Stalker another... Perma-dom and boom, no more headshots. Since many of the best attacks are melee, with perma-dom, it's like being a Controller to get the party started, then a Scrapper/Blapper to rip through them. It almost feels like cheating, TBH.

And people think I am prickly, jeesh.

I have always liked the cut of your jib, BZB. So glad you made it back. IMO, the roles are just there for some players that like to know where they should concentrate their energy. Built with care, every character can now become a real superhero and perform a 'role' of their choice, often without caring about the AT. There is really no reason to force the roles based on AT, just let people play whatever role in the group they like. I think the DPS/Tanker/Blaster/Support/Control roles are all there, simply in how some people like and choose to play, not rhe AT they use for a character concept. I always Tank. Some call it 'Leeroy Jenkins', I call it Tanking. 😉

I am always fiddling - I think I have about 5 builds in the hopper for this one. I have not, however, done any real tests beyond 'is it fun', and by 'fun', do I feel like a God of Lighting. So far so good. I don't kill as well as my tricked out Blaster, but I live longer/easier and I have a larger variety of powers. I spend a lot of time playing this character and I found the thread, could not resist dipping in...she is an Homage to my wife, so I spare no expense or effort to make it be my best. 🙂 -

I'll be interested to see what studying the combination of builds leads to ... I know I'll at least look at these other when I can as well, to see if I can squeeze out more! -
I don't really need a doctor to realize I am not right... 😂

It works for me. I think many would call it 'very clicky'. It tends to drive like a sports car - treat her right and she always delivers - make a wrong move and over the railing you go... I have not accurately fleshed out my Incarnates I think in that build though. -
I find the backstory for most of my characters I keep ends up being some form of 'forced into being a hero with super powers'. As in, none of them really 'signed up' to come and protect Paragon and most of them got thier powers thrust at them or an accident, etc. Beyond that, Electricity. This game just does Electric the 'right way' for me, I just love it, more than any of the other elements in the game.

I agree, it's a bad idea, again just taking the basic premise of inequality to an extreme on the slippery slope. As for expanding the content players encounter, I was serious - does the featured content get more people to play it? If it does, then that's really what you propose from a certain point of view - adding rewards to content to get players to play that content. I think the same thing can happen as you describe with just giving INF away - the hardcore players will run multiple characters through the enhanced reward content as fast as they can, gaining an inordinate amount of the shinies meant for balancing then just becomes the new money machine. IME, there is no way in code to stop the players determined to game the system, just as there is no way in code to get players to become IO users, etc., if that is not their gig... IMO, we are talking about trying to alter human gaming behavior - if we crack that nut, it's time to get hired by the casinos...

Warframe tried something like this with how powerful certain mods were based on how popular they were. Did not work too well for them in terms of player satisfaction, but I think was mainly due to not actually changing things often enough. We already have featured content with more rewards - is that contecnt actually run more than other things? I have no idea. I know I would be a player that just keeps having fun doing what I enjoy, I do that now during events in most all MMOs. The changing of the rewards for doing the same thing one did yesterday would at the least be a bit confusing, IMO, for those that don't 'keep up with the minutae'. Other games give rewards for just logging into the game each day... Seems like if the whole reason for making a change is to simply give the have-nots more INF, why not just give them more INF - you log in, if you have less than this many INFs, your get the Rewards Booster mentioned earlier applied to your character automagically. Or just run a script on the DB that gives every account with a total INF of less than X, Y amount as a booster, in an email to the account. Seems simpler than trying to code out some balancing act that is meant to do nothing more than give crumbs to those that don't how to get them. Any of these things still seem like a lot of effort to expend on players that don't seem to want to expend that effort themsleves...

I floated the idea, to show how taking the INF idea to an extreme would look, as an example. In doing so, I made the mistake, it seems, of saying I would prefer instant IOs over INF gathering. The memes came out full swing, the hyberole of 'why even play?' etc. I chose to clap back with, IMO, an amusing pearl reference, and simply because I don't back down to the groupthink, here we are. Artless? Perhaps. Honest, real thoughts on my part, Entirely. I happen to think it's funny that the mere idea of changing the game makes some poeple lose thier minds. If that makes me a bad person (or artless), for seeing humor in that, I can live with that. Non-stop. It's not a matter of what idea is produced, it's simply a matter of if the self-appointed 'save the game' posters see it or not. It's an echo chamber that has been running for years. These same people are playing a game on rogue servers and still trying to take some sort of moral high-road. It's frickin' hilarious!

*points at BMT* - You going to eat that?

Could just reset the servers every couple months to represent the timelines collapsing...that would definately make the fans hate it...

The real trick here is, who gets to define 'toxic' and 'jerk'. IME, one persons toxic is another persons normal, one persons jerk is anothers best bud. I think it's fascinating you think I should be banned though. This is the meat of the discussion IMO. The problem IMO is that some people look at what others have in the game, want it, yet won't make the effort to get it when they have the same opportunities, access to the same Internet of data on how to get the shinies, and instead want the game to change so they get the same things as the others have made the effort to acquire. It's a people problem that cannot be solved by code because the problem has existed since mankind created societies. The only way to solve the inequlity is to entirely remove the acquiring of the things and just give everyone everything. Even if that occurs, some players will simply be better at and spend more time creating characters and the idea of the 7 IOs vs 1 SO will reamain.

Sure I know I am interacting with other humans, but the details and minutae of our interactions about a video gome on an internet forum just don't carry much water in the real world for me. My life is not going to be impacted. I believe nothing, just to be clear. I don't see threads as sacrosanct single lane discussions. I was simply giving examples of what I see that upsets me around how people treat each other over a game, so that I caould in turn get other to give me examples of what opinions I have shared that are upsetting. I find it upsetting that there are people who think shaming others for how they choose to play a video game - but in the picture, no, that feeling has no real impact on RL, it does not prevent or enable me from continuing my existence. I live for introspection. I know very well who I am and where I fit. I am well aware that the way I communicate rubs some people the wrong way - the way other comminucate sometimes rubs me the wrong way - it's called life. Anyone that thinks I am going to change the way I communicate due to upsetting a few people on a game forum is smoking better stuff than I can buy. I get that some posters would really like it if I fit into a mold of what a person should be and how they should act. That's not my problem. *shrug*

You make the players that don't bother to learn how to make more INF out to be victims, IMO. If you make something 'easy and quick' reward anything close to higher-tier rewards, it will be the thing that fuels the very high-earners that the plan was meant to curb. That is the Way of the MMO. Exploit Early, Exploit Often. I have no problem with activities rewarding increased INF. Does not bother me one bit. Won't really solve any issues, IMO. I also think just removing INF all together would not salve the 'problem' presented - there will simply always be hard core players and casual players...those that IO and those that do not...
