Those are better handled by the rest of the team. The Tank moves on, takes the alpha of the next spawn, along with the other AoE attackers, while the Stalkers and pets clean up the remaining enemies. What you're describing as "bad" is actually how an efficient endgame team moves. And the whole splitting off thing is also part of it. Why should a Brute/Scrapper/VEAT/bulky Corruptor stick with the team when they can go off on a branch and solo the groups on their own without worrying about wasting AoE potential? I'm not saying this to be mean, but I think the issue is less that the Tank is moving too fast and more that you're moving too slow.

A well played and built Crab isn't "jack of all trades master of none". They are "master or runner up in all trades but healing and CC". (A) When you lean on Venom Grenade, your personal damage is similar to a Blaster. 1.0 scale damage with a constant 20% resist debuff on a Crab is comparable to a 1.125 scale on a Blaster. (B) While you can't control the pets, there's an old thread from back in the day that showed that a Crab's 6 (including the Mace spider) beats the DPS of both Mercs and Zombie MM's pets alone. I believe that still holds true. So, (A) + (B) already has Blaster level damage added to pets that beats 1/3 of MM sets. (C) You have personal protection of softcap defenses and 50-60% resists, with the potential of perma-Serum. Most Scrapper and Brute builds don't hit those numbers. Not to mention, when on a team that boosts resists further, or when playing with temp boosts, you can get to 85% resists, just short of the Tank/Brute cap. Yes, not Tank levels, but basically second best, in the same ballpark as some Brute builds. (D) Passively, without spending any animation time or thought, you're also providing ~20% defense to your team. That's better than anything outside of a FF user is providing, and they have to make sure to refresh their bubbles. Add on 15 or 30% damage and 10%+ tohit, depending on your build. As to what you want to do with your build...up to you. It's possible that Crabs aren't your thing if it's not clicking. But based on your comments about damage and pets, I don't feel like you've given either aspect its due, and maybe you should explore investing in those further.

The issue with trying to "tank" on a VEAT is the same issue that Scrappers face: you might be beefy enough, but your threat modifier just isn't high enough to properly draw and hold aggro. Even with provoke, with only a 2/0.85 modifier, any Brute or Tank on the team is going to peel aggro from you easily and its also not going to be enough to stop runners 100% of the time. You'll bleed aggro to squishies too, since Provoke has a 5 target cap. https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Threat So you can build to be "tanky" but you'll struggle to "tank". If you want to be an alpha soaker, you're better off focusing on damage and building to your strengths than trying to fit a round peg in a square hole.

Water blasting isn't really a standard Namor thing, unless I missed something. His mutant/Atlantean powers are more super strength, flight, water adaptation and aquatic animal communication. Where are you drawing the water blasting inspiration from?

You're entitled to your opinion, but on both fronts the numbers disagree with you, harshly. Where the Bane has Bane armor (7.5% res to all) at level 1, which is betterer than Crab armor (3% res to s/l/p) the Crab gets Fortification (15% res to s/l, 25% to f/c/e/n/t) which the Bane has no comparison to. Because of Fortification, Crabs have 10%+ base resistance more than a Bane to everything but psi. Crabs can get capped defense easily and ~60% resists to all but psi, while taking Musculature Alpha. The best Bane builds on these boards wirh Musculature are getting ~40% resists. Please show me a Bane build that hits 60% resist numbers without Resilient or Cardiac Alpha and maybe you'd have an argument. Regarding comparing to Stalkers, when it comes to damage that comparison is really not even a fair fight. Both have scale 1.0 damage, but Banes get 1.5x crits from Hide while Stalkers get 2x, Banes don't have any crits outside of Hide, while Stalkers on a full team crit on 31% of their regular attacks, and build Assassin's focus. The Bane is only bringing the leadership buffs, which is fine, but if that's what you're goal is, Crab does it better.

Don't use T9's with crashes. End of story. And LOL at "poor defense sets, resists don't deal with this". Unstoppable and Power Surge say hi.
-
What about a Staff melee Tank/Brute/Scrapper with the Leviathan Mastery Patron pool? Pretty Aquaman to throw sharks at people and summon water spouts.
-
There's literally no such thing as "evade states". Also, Brutes literally have the same base stat defensive modifiers as Scrappers, the only difference is the higher HP and higher resist cap. You're literally making up stuff that doesn't exist.
-
Yeah, just so many levels of "WTF" from OP. I can reliably farm S/L farms with a cap/softcap Stalker, let alone a Scrapper.

@Mo'Fire The archived patch notes are here for your convenience: https://archive.paragonwiki.com/wiki/Patch_Notes Please point out where this nerf was. I was there from beta to shutdown and I'm calling BS on your memory of some mystical nerf to "elude" or whatever you're calling it. It didn't happen.

Except there's more to survivability than just def and res values. Playstyle, damage output, use of soft control effects and pet management are all huge factors for Crab survivability. Between a 50%def/70% resist Crab with no KD, no pets and mediocre damage and a Crab with 40%def/55% resist, great damage, solid KD proc usage and kitted out pets, my money would be on the second one surviving more often than the first.
-
@NeiskaSure, didn't mean to say your build isn't valid. Whatever works for you, especially if you wanted to use the Crab to farm.

How is the knockback saving you from ambushes in a way that knockdown doesn't? They are on the ground the same amount of time. Also, micro-ing your Singularity's positioning is like herding cats. It doesn't respond to movement commands so all you can do is TP it or lead it around and as soon as its out of targets in range, it floats towards the next one it sees. Time spent managing your Singularity is time you're not doing something else, like casting Tornado or your hold. If you said "I like KB for the cool factor", fine. But lets not pretend you have any control over what your Singularity is doing or where its knocking enemies.
-
But when you're defense softcapped and have perma-Serum, 50-60% resists should be more than enough for 99% of the game's content. You need to really squeeze a lot of IO bonuses or use Resilient Alpha to get your self up to 85% naturally. If you feel that's needed for your play style, then go ahead, but not taking Musculature alpha always feels like an inefficient choice when the current state of the game is all about damage. When Blasters are tanking AVs in the current metagame, with a fraction of a Crab's defensive stats, I don't feel like there's any reason a Crab should need build so heavily towards resiliency. EDIT: Also, getting from 60% to 85% is easy in non-build related methods. A single Sonic or Thermal teammate will get you there. Cimeroran Citizen day job gets you another 5% across the board. A Mutation or Fortune can tack on another 5% if you're lucky and get the right ones. Empowerment base buffs get you more as well. My "naturally 60% resists" can be 85% with a small amout of prep.

Is it possible for non-MM to have a pet control window?
Omega-202 replied to cohRock's topic in General Discussion
I get that, but at the same time, if you slot the ATO Energy Font proc in Tornado, the Font appears in your pet window, but it's owner is labeled as Tornado. Which also doesn't make sense because the act that triggers its creation is the casting of Tornado and the Tornado itself can't even proc Font. Meanwhile, the Tornado doesn't show in the pet window, because it's generally not a pet-pet, but more of an untargetable psuedopet. Like I said, there's no hard and fast rules. Just like how all Stalker attacks are manually coded so that the crit mechanics are baked into their version of the attacks, so much of this game was done ad hoc and ended up as a weird inconsistent hodge podge. At the end of the day, it works, but good god, so much of it should probably have been done "right" from the start instead of being cobbled together. Oh well. -
Is it possible for non-MM to have a pet control window?
Omega-202 replied to cohRock's topic in General Discussion
Sort of, but not always. For example, Spectral Terror shows up, but it's untargetable and doesn't show health. Phantom Army is also weird because it shows up, but Phantasm's clone, which is basically the same as the Decoys , doesn't. Basically, it's a mess, but generally you're right...sorta. -
You should also realize that there were 15 old servers and now there's only 5. So it's possible that the person who has the name now also had it back on live and may have had it longer than you. Have you checked to see if the name is available on one of the other servers? One of the less populated servers, like Indomitable, might have your name open.
-
None of the servers can have "all of your toons". For all intents and purposes, all of the old character data is gone and everyone has had to start from scratch. If you want to find out who has a name you would like to use, you can send an in game email to that character name and ask if they'd be willing to relinquish it. However, be advised that just because you had a name back in the day, it does not mean you are entitled to it now. Again, everything started over from a blank slate so its not "your" name any more.

Damage procs will only trigger in powers that the Singularity uses that would be able to slot said proc. For example, Explosive Strike (KB set) will have a chance to trigger on Lift and Repel but not Crush or Gravity Distortion. Generally, I find that damage procs are good on some pets and less good on others. For example, all of Dark Servant's powers do -ToHit, so they can all use the Clouded Sense proc. Phantasm's attacks all do KB, so they all make use of Explosive Strike. Singularity is more of a control pet, so I'm not sure how great procs would be for it. Might be better to just focus on Hami Acc/Mez and Dam/Mez.

That's not quite right. It's not a proc, Gambler's is actually a single IO "set bonus". The difference is that Gambler's is always active (as long as you meet the level requirement) whether the power its slotted in is in use or not. Proc IOs require the power to be used. For example, the Miracle +Recovery IO is a proc. You need to use the power it is in for it to be effective over the next 120 seconds. Gambler's is not a proc because you don't have to use the power. Hell, you can be exemplared below the power being available and the Gambler bonus still works. The real answer is that Gambler's bonus is just categorized separately to the general 7.5% bonuses. See the link below: https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Enhancement_Set_Bonuses#The_Law_of_Fives Because Gambler's is "named" differently in the system, it is counted separately.

As Vanden said, it's an intentional part of the power. It makes VG's 0.9 damage scalar seem deceptively low. In practice, it does better damage than it would first appear. Also makes Gladiator's Javelin and Spider Bite procs quite effective. I'm still not quite sure whether it's worth running Degenerative (toxic damage) over Reactive (fire damage, but higher base) in general content, but it makes sense to have Radial of both for different scenarios.
-
Kismet + Invincible gets my Stalker to 16% with minimum investment and with a single teammate running Tactics, my Zapp is always at max. Alternatively, BU (with Gaussians) also gets you there and then some. Add Manticore and Apocalypse procs, and Zapp hits like a freight train. "Oh no, we've got a runner!" not for long...

Toxic Crab - Comments and Help welcome
Omega-202 replied to UprightMan's topic in Arachnos Soldier & Widow
First: WAY too many procs, not nearly enough damage and accuracy slotting in so many of your attacks. Crabs have a 1.0 damage scalar so enhancing damage is going to give you a better bang for your buck on average than loading up on procs will. Also, you're going to struggle to hit anything with VG, Frag, etc. with no accuracy slotted. TTL is not a replacement for accuracy slotting, it's a supplement. Second: You have too many attacks overall. There's no way you need all of those attacks. Third: For a build focusing on Toxic damage, you have totally neglected you big Toxic attack in Bile Spray. Why is it only 3 slotted? And again, why no accuracy? Fourth: If you're going to go with procs, and your build is Toxic damage focused, why no Gladiator's Javelin in your ranged attacks? It's the only Toxic damage proc out there. Generally, I don't think your proposed build would be playable. The lack of accuracy slotting will have you whiffing way too often, even against +0s, let alone +1-2. -
The hell you talking about? Most Marvel movies have at least that many hero moments. There's like five major action set pieces each movie over the course of 2 hours. Civil War: Lagos > Bucky chase> Bucky escape> Airport> Finale. There's a hero moment every 20 minutes in a FILM that we're passively observing. Why shouldn't there be a hero moment ever 5-10 minutes in a game that we are actively participating in?

Yes, but its a base damage increase, and not a +damage buff. More tohit past 22% won't boost damage further, but it won't impact your damage buff cap in anyway. Sorry if I misunderstood the question.
