  1. you have such a good point with this when i first started out, i picked things which were the most fun and ran with it thesedays i find it difficult, my mind wants to pick what’s most optimal and has the best contribution, rather than the most enjoyable
  2. some controllers can do reasonable damage once a higher level, it’s not typically a high damage archetype though - if you like control powers, a dominator would do a lot more damage. they have a control primary and an assault secondary if you’re keen to stay with controllers, they’re still a great choice. dark/dark would be fun but not particularly damaging. gravity control or fire control would be higher
  3. be the lead tank on some 4 star ITF / Aeon runs, you may find the tank surprisingly squishy
  4. with some EBs, if you cast multiple holds etc over a short period of time it’ll overwhelm their mez protection and control them it’s a lot easier with domination, i’d recommend building it up during the mish and then popping it, perhaps also waiting for Purple Triangles of Doom to also be down before starting your assault failing that, pop a few purples
  5. stack your mez powers before you attack and you’ll be fine. break line of sight whilst they recharge and you’ll reduce any incoming damage if you’re trying to tank an EB you’ll have a bad time
  6. journey? is that some kind of AE mish? SITTER LF JOURNEY FARM
  7. hey, welcome! here‘s a link to the CoH wiki page where you ca read about the archetypes - it sounds like a Stalker would be the right fit for you https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Archetypes which server are you going to play on? excelsior is the busiest if you like a crowd, indomitable is the quietest if you prefer solo and a close community
  8. logged out to switch alts but can't get back in game haha
  9. there’s nothing wrong with your point of view, it just seems out of place here as most people are happy enough just having the game to play hiring staff would incur significantly higher monthly costs and make things a lot more complicated. the HC staff are just people like you and me who have jobs and a life but run a server on the side, they may not wish to now be in charge of a company and staff adding just three staff would increase the monthly donation target by at least $20,000 every month
  10. i agree with this for the last 4 years of HC i have only really played my mind/fire dom or my kin/sonic defender. i have played a poison/fire def and elec/shield stalker to 50 but rarely play them, they gather dust two good alts are all you need. i have high damage and total lockdown on my dom and pure support and debuff on my def i have thought about having a tank, then i remember i can just mash my inspirations as usual and continue herding on the def and dom
  11. i meant @PeregrineFalcon PL’d to his 50’s in life 😀 speed run
  12. all hail our new 2024 forum reacts
  13. hey, this was a really interesting read - thanks for taking the time to make the post. i think a lot of us - including me, can get lost in the HC echo chamber and assume the way things currently are is the only way to play CoH this does cause me some frustration at times. i often find you can play with a lvl 50 who has no real idea on how to play the character they've logged into - they PL to 50, get a defensive build from the forum and play every alt, including doms/controllers/support ATs as a scrapper. this is often disappointing when teaming as you think you're getting a kin or a great thermal defender who was going to stack shields between missions etc.. when really you someone who should have stuck to being a scrapper and doesn't know to click any of their primary set powers. on live, slower progression generally meant a lvl 50 knew what they were doing this relates to the part i've quoted below about IOs - the prevelance of them has help to break archetypes. on the server where IOS were rare, was there more team cooperation to achieve objectives? personally i think this is what an MMO is meant to be about. i only play two alts and invest in those alts, though i recognise my playstyle is a minority in the era of people having 50+ alts. i have always believed in having a "main" which receives the primary benefit of IOs etc. i think this plays into the concept of an MMO also, investing time in your main to make it the best it can be i have been discussing on the forums for a while on whether IOs broke CoH and led to the game being too easy, but i think this also comes into player ability. when i first started playing CoH it felt more challenging as i expect i was rather awful at playing it. when you know how the various mechanics work, even without IOs it becomes a lot easier - though a fully IOd out build will help a lot. the lack of IOs and readily available enhancements creates a stronger desire for support ATs, which is where i primarily spend my time. i yearn to be useful!
  14. as a full time dom player, i wouldn’t go with thorn personally, long animation times and “ok” damage ice/earth, ice/ice, ice/fire or ice/energy would get my vote ice/ice is fun for the combination of arctic air procced out and chilling embrace procced out, just pray to the gods above for some endurance! ice/ice goes really well with your glass theme too. i’d introduce just a really subtle amount of blue-ish green tint to your powers and it would work well definitely go for ice mastery too - defender strngth sleet is a real winner. soul also a banger for soul drain
  15. things tend to fill pretty well on excelsior - i’m an EU player and am generally online between 5pm - 7pm EST, i expect things get a bit busier after this but seems popular enough to do any TF or trial i find the community not too bad on excelsior either, i think it gets a bad rep. i often see people who i’ve been bumping into since spring 2019
  16. you are forgetting rule 1 of the PuG life: Rule 1: Turn off chat You have the ability to read messages in the LFG channel and send tells to the team lead in order to join, but you will find as soon as you’re in the team, you no longer need to communicate with anyone. It is crucial that you now become a mute, minimise the chat window - there will be nothing valuable to see here. You are a lone wolf, a maverick. Any instructions from the so-called team is a secret plot to ensure your demise, go your own way and trust nobody.
  17. i agree - i build most of my alts for output and procs. building for defense is generally an inefficient and sub-optimal strategy favoured by newer players given you can whack out /ah after each mish and stack up on insps. a medium purple gives 25% and the temp amplifier 5%, leaving just 15% to fill i have played a poison/fire def to 50 and wouldn’t recommend many other secondaries to pair with it. poison needs a high impact, high damage secondary to make it feel impactful. for the entire poison primary you don’t really notice any of the powers doing anything, fire gives the quick animation, satisfying impact the combination needs
  18. ooh, i’m interested in this - can you link a guide? i’ll let you smash up my computer as a thank you 👍
  19. I enjoy a bit of chaos, this is why I run the Posi TFs. I ran a Posi 1 team yesterday led by my incarnate kin defender, it lived up to its chaotic nature. The only ‘tank’ type on the team was a brute with no taunt, so the aggro was spraying everywhere. We wiped a few times on the last mission, so I immediately left the team, smashed my desktop with heavy boots and went to the pub with @Snarky ..so I decided to do what I can to contain the chaos. I made the best aggro holder I could think of - an ice/ice tank. Chilling embrace, icicles, taunt and ice patch should do the job. No. No.. On my second Posi 1, boy was I holding that aggro good. Man they were huddled around me.. Just one problem, where were most of the team? Answer: Continuously running after a scrapper who had a death wish and repeatedly dying along with 4 or 5 team members several times during the TF So I quit again and phoned @Snarky to come over and help me smash up my gaming laptop ..so I issued some directive instructions which seemed to help a bit. The blaster and dominator who stuck with me remained unscathed the entire TF Despite being a team of 8, there was no support AT to help me through some of the wild encounters, my insp tray was working hard but managed to keep it together and contain the aggro nicely Overall a surprisingly rewarding experience. I’ll continue with the ice/ice tank and see how it develops 7/10 Posi 1 experience
  20. someone posted a few graphs several weeks ago and it showed things are mostly stable over the 3 years
